I recently pulled a foil Thoughtseize at the prerelease and was so excited at my luck. Thoughtseize is an amazing card, and definently holds a place as one of the money cards in Theros, but why is the reprint so low?
Before Thoughtseize was reprinted it was at a happy $57, that's very far from the current $23.
I guess my question is, why are some reprints a lot lower than others? Is it because Theros is such a good set and will be opened a lot more?

Reprinted at rare, rather than mythic. A lot of thoughtseize will be opened from now on.
As the large set of a block, Theros will be opened until the next large set is released next Fall.
Magic is also way more popular right now,
so Theros will be much more heavily printed than Lorwyn was.
Lastly, a lot of people prefer the old art, which helps make the reprint cheaper.
It's noting to worry about- if you want valuable Thoughtseizes, just buy the ones from Lorwyn.
They'll stay fairly valuable- especially the foils.

It still will probably stabilize at $10-$15...I know DRS didn't already have a print run to get it into the hands of modern/legacy/commander players, but it always saw less play in standard than I believe Thoughtseize will...
Thoughtseize is not going under $10, and after rotation, give it a year and it will be back to $20+...certain cards are just that essential IMO
For a good comparison, look at Mutavault. It was from the same block and has a similar play profile (played in Legacy and Modern in various decks), and pre-reprint had a price of >$30. Now, it's ~$10. Thoughtseize dropping from ~$70 to $23 is about the same ratio of decrease.

The demand for TS was always high, but it was dwarfed by the extremely limited supply of lorwyn seizes. That lack of supply was the bubble keeping the price of a seize so high.
It getting reprinted popped that bubble. The mere announcement dropped its price ~30% overnight. That right there is proof of how artificial its old price was. Now that the new ones are entering circulation, the price has been dropping like a rock and will keep dropping oveer the duration of the block.
It is a great card, but it never deserved its old price tag and it will probably never come close to achieving it again.
Modern Masters reprints didn't cause a price crash because of the limited print run, the really expensive cards were printed at mythic and the boosters were more expensive, making it a niche product.
At rare, unlimited print run, expert level set, there's so many, many more Thoughtseize being opened.
This right here. Some people at my lgs were talking about Thoughtseize price and brought up that a lot of the MM stuff didn't drop and in some cases have gone up with the exposure.
They missed the rarity change and small print run. You can't look at Goyf and Thoughtseize the same way.
Thoughtseize might drop even more, because while it is a good card, it's not a four-of for any given deck. Last time, it was followed up by Bitterblossom, making it a four-of to snag any hate they kept in their opener, making it very safe to slam down on turn two. Right now, at the onset of the new format, it might only be a sideboard card against Control.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.

basic economics, OP. when thoughtseize is in short supply, they are obviously more expensive. when they reprint it, the market is flooded with them for a period of time, the price decreases.
I would expect to hover around 20 for the first month, if it's a staple in standard I would probably expect it go up around 25. If it's not played, probably around 15.

Yes, the price will drop, and probably will continue to drop..
No, that piece of evidence isn't proof that its price was artificial.
If Tarmo was stated to be a rare print in a mainstream set, then its price will crash to 20, 30 at best.
That doesn't mean that its price is artificial. It's just what happens when you suddenly shove in a lot of supply to a market that previously lacked it.
First time i see someone complaining about cards being too cheap and affordable
Best thing I have ever read.
Anyway, the price is obviously dropping from the flood of thoughtsiezes in the market. It will continue to fluctuate obviously. However, I believe it will go up when the third set of theros is printed. By that time people will be realizing they should have gotten their playset earlier and everyone will be hoarding their playset in the hopes of one day actually using them in a jund deck although they will never be able to afford it. Just wait.
The original Thoughtseizes with Briclot look better and are in shorter supply. There's also less chance that art will be reprinted in large numbers. If you want a more expensive Thoughtseize get the Lorwyn ones. Otherwise I guess you'll have to settle for paying a lot less. I think Theros 'seizes will bottom out around $12-16 despite the buzz and playable in older formats. More Thoughtseizes will be opened than Scavenging Oozes by a good margin, if you're using that as a point of comparison. That said, I definitely wouldn't feel bad about getting a playset for under $100 now.

The price of the card in a month's time will be the lowest probably even hovering around $18-20. When people start hoarding playsets after the second expansion prices will probably get to $25 but I can't see it exceeding that price.

Lorwyn was also the last block before mtg exploded in popularity so it was opened less than most modern sets.

Lack of supply is hardly "artificial"
