I'm not the best limited player in the world (that's an understatement), but it seems to me that Perilous Shadow is a real powerhouse in limited. For 2BB you get a solid 0/4 body that is fairly resilient against common red burn spells, even un-pumped. And with the mana that it costs to cast it, you are guaranteed on the next turn (barring mana source disruption) to be able to pump it to 4/8. That's a big creature at the common slot.
Of course you have to pump it to do any damage with it, and it doesn't have evasion, but with such a big butt, and so easily pump-able, it's not something that is easy to block, and when not blocked, it can get through for a ton of damage.
I think this is one of the best common creatures for limited. Am I crazy? Or perhaps just my lack of skill in limited is showing through?
He's good but not much as you think. Shade (similar to Fire Breath effects) feels better then it actually is. Bumping him means you get substantial tempo loss. By using his ability you stop developing your table in front of your opponent. He might take feel hits but he will problably out race you (unless you use that mana to disrupt and in that case the shadow does no damage).
It's really hard to evaluate, i can't tell whats the better: him, Dread Reveler or Ogre Jailbreaker. But surely black got it's share of sweet common creatures !
it's good, a near unkillable shade that doesn't require all black for the pump. so it can be a 4/8, thats amazing. this guy will be very hard to get rid of and provide an excellent body.
