Day of Judgment 2WW
Sorcery
Destroy all creatures.
Is anyone really surprised by this? I figured this was exactly what they were going to do. I like the idea of control using it to their advantage by using regenerating blockers, which seems to fit with some of the development lately of control using walls. This may make control stronger overall in the long run, though aggro will likely want to pick up aggressive regenerating creatures when possible. It's possible for white to be pushed into green and black for access to regeneration, or maybe WotC will finally realize that white should get regenerators too.
I like the art, but not as well as that for Wrath. It needs moar glow-y whiteness. The flavor text seems very poignant on the philosophical differences between black and white.
Esper Control anyone? (Well probably few if any actual Esper cards..) White removal, Blue countering/bounce and Black regenerators. Wall of bone, Drudge Skeletons and Kathari Remnant come to mind. There will probably be one or more such creature in Zen as well. Hopefully there is some decent Countermagic though. Negate and Essence Scatter are ok at the 2 slot, but Cancel and Punish Ignorance just are not going to get it done filling in the rest.
^ Hope for Troll Ascetic to return in zendikar block?
I'm not that surprised that they printed this card after Wrath left standard. And that it allows regeneration is a good thing I think. Regeneration hasn't been usable in ages. So this wrath variant can be abused with regenerators.
And Desertwalk, control is NOT ALIVE because of this card. Look at 5C which is dominating the top tables in standard, with a five mana wrath variant. Control isn't dead by a long shot.

Found myself agreeing with most of this post about Cavern of souls and countermagic.

said variant also happens to be, in my opinion, superior to wrath at the moment when you consider wrath effect hosers (Reveillark, Kitchen Finks, and Dauntless Escort to name a few), but that's neither here nor there as far as this topic's concerned.
hooray, wrath's back. with awesome new artwork no less! I like how they darkened up the white 'border.' really shows off the cloud/marble motif on the card. I'll have to get one of the promos for my EDH, and no doubt 4 normals for every-deck use.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.

I like the idea of using this in a green/white control build. Kind of brings back good memories of Wake. I also like that opposing regenerators can get around this card. Hopefully, DoJ won't end up being the end-all-be-all control card that *** was. It has a weakness and I think that is good. I want to see more playable aggressive regenerators in black, green, and white - not just walls and weenies. I want people to have actual debates about whether this card gets included in a given deck or not.
I like the art, but not as well as that for Wrath. It needs moar glow-y whiteness. The flavor text seems very poignant on the philosophical differences between black and white.
I think this is alternate art. There was a similar deal with an alternate art Honor of the Pure for M10. I'm guessing the regular DoJ won't have flavor text and will have better art.
I'm slightly offended by that comparison. The only thing blue about Batman is his private investigator cunning. He's too complex of a character to classify into one color.
It's widely known that [EDH] is very broken. Building a superdeck is quite easy. So what defines you as a player is [...] how you show restraint and creativity while still remaining a competitive player and a good sport.
the only problem with urza is that he is an oldwalker, so its abilities would be like:
+3: remove up to ten target permanents from the play
-2: win the game
-8: kick your opponents in the face, then win the game
starting loyalty: 100
Now I can Rancor my Autumn Willow whatcha gonna do about it? No really what would probably happen is Wrath still being played in legacy just ebcause people have them.
LOL wait no... CARAPACE I thought Rancor regenerated

Wasn't meant by flavor at all, more in what they are capable of doing mechanically and how I feel about them; namely White can do just about everything and thus is a total douchebag and blue is capable of a lot of things but not in the horribly obnoxious way white dies it and thus is spared my personal wrath.
And on that note, goodbye Wrath. Never even got to use my textless ones...
Everyone says that it isn't as good because you can still Regenerate.... are there any good cards right now that actually do that?
I think that the removal of the anti regeneration clause of almost all removal (save exile) will make regeneration matter more. Right now the perception is that regeneration is a trivial ability... but we'll see...
Its actually a nicer design than wrath, given that it interacts (positively and negatively) with regeneration.
Not surprised by this, and it's perfectly fine. I wish we had Wrath still, but considering the only regenerators in the entire history of competitive Magic I can remember being relevant are Troll Ascetic, River Boa, and Sedge Troll (maybe?) I think it's safe to assume this will work EXACTLY like Wrath did.

Erhemm.... Spiritmonger.
I also wouldn't get rid of any planar cleansings... This new standard screams control. All I could ever want now is a new aggressive 3cc counterspell.
all i can say is im on the fence i got my wraths way back. and dont wanna foot the bill for this card (but i will). on the other hand this means all kinds of things for my edh deck i always need that other wrath

Wizards had stated before that they were wanting to make regeneration more relevant again. Anyone who expects that any major changeover in magic (such as making regeneration relevant again) is going to happen in 1 set is delusional at best. A lot of times these changeovers or transitions as with massive rules changes or trying to emphasize a certain aspect of the game more can take a couple sets, a block or maybe even be a gradual adjustment over more than one block.
Right now we can see the initial stages of doing just that with regeneration.
First Stage: Remove (cant be regenerated) from as many cards as possible, especially ones that see a lot of tournament play where having that ability is mostly just an add on for most players.
Example: They removed Incinerate, Terror, and Wrath of God.
Second Stage: Replace the primary offendors with cards that no longer have the ability so as to allow regeneration not to automatically be stifled once they start printing better creatures with regeneration.
Example: Lightning Bolt, Doom Blade, New Zendikar Wrath and Planar Cleansing.
Third Stage: Begin adding good regeneration creatures back into the game at a reasonable rate so as to show that regeneration is actually still a potentially relevant ability to the game.
Example: So Far, Cudgel Troll is the first new one, though I expect we will begin to see more over the course of Zendikar block and beyond.
Right now they are making an effort to create a massive overhaul to the game to freshen it up a bit and create new toys for people (not just for standard) to play with. Heck, look at extended, they will have 3 wraths to be able to use (wrath, damnation, new wrath) all at 4 mana. Not to mention even older formats, or formats like EDH that can always use an extra card that does something similar to another to help raise consistency.
Is this a way for wizards to help hype the set? Sure it is. Was this done purely and only because wizards are greedy and dont care about the playerbase? Heck no. Whether you agree to disagree with the adjustments to the game they are working on, or agree or disagree with my comments about regeneration above, its still a valid point and valid argument for why they chose to finally get rid of wrath and bring in a new wrath variant that allows for regeneration.
Just some things to think about, I personally love regeneration. And to those people that think they should just get rid of regeneration as an ability alltogether, how about they get rid of flying, or trample, or shroud. Each of them has just as much right as any other to exist in this game, just because they have been more relevant lately than regeneration, doesnt mean that a year or two from now we will look back and realize that perhaps wizards was right in making regeneration more relevant again.

Cudgel Troll is not a bad creature to use in a green deck, and Regenerate gives instant speed regeneration to any creature you can target
