Just a quick note to let you know that my position at Wizards has been eliminated, so for now my time with Magic is over. Thanks so much for your dedication and passion for the game and its characters, settings, and plots. Magic is stronger than it's ever been, and I think you can expect to see more stories for a very long while.
Bradywalkers + Lack of a Serious Cannon = MTG is crap for creative anyway. They were right to go back to telling the story on the cards if the novels couldn't keep up.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
He got what he deserved for creating the bradywalkers.

From Supernatural:
Sam: a demon summoning spell ? why?
Lucifer: to summon a demon (auto censorship here)
====
The Wizard of Oz: A juvenile delinquent runs away from home, kills the first person she meets in a foreign land, robs her corpse, then promptly forms a gang with three complete strangers in order to kill again.
====
He was the dude in charge of flavor and everything surrounding PWs, and his job in flavoring them initially was fairly sloppy and kinda bland.
For example: Liliana is supposed to be a Necromancer, none of her PW cards actually reflect this, and this identity was pinned down AFTER she was printed in Lorwyn.
Jace, Chandra, and Garruk were fairly stereotypical mages in their color. They didn't have much more going for them than "She likes to blow things up! He's a beastmaster! He's a broody 18-20something who is constantly battling with using his special talent for good or evil!"
Ajani was arguably the most fleshed out: His brother was leader of the group he took over, and he focused on honoring that legacy by bringing out the best in people. He's also an albino runt, and does everything in his power to prove himself to his group, even losing his eye in the process. (His brother was also murdered, and so he went on a revenge quest to fix it, but that's later.)
It was really the initially bland and fairly sloppy handling of walkers that draws fire. Creative got a good deal better as time went on (Ignoring Nissa Ravine)
Someone just told me that Wizards is going to go back towards Planeswalkers as more god-like beings rather than mortal humans. If true (has anyone heard about this?) then maybe firing Brady had to do with his refusal (or inability) to change the direction of his mortal planeswalkers.
i don't think so. if this is true, it means the end of planeswalker cards.
brady probably had some problem with the crippled teysa being a 4/4 and emmara being able to kill a craw wurm with her fist
Flavor has been bad lately. I'm not sure if that's because R&D has been pushing cards over Brady or something, but either way it looks like his position has been in jeopardy. As for the elimination of PW cards, I think I would be fine with that as my collection finally comes to an end, but I am sad I didn't get any old walker cards. Old walker cards were always possible. As another member here pointed out, the cards were always showing a fraction of their abilities, what's to say old walker cards couldn't do the same? If true, this does spell the story for Bolas getting his powers back, but also probably kills him as well. He would be the ultimate being and nothing will kill him. Boring!

Flavor changes does not equal mechanics changes.
Wizards: Now that a lot of time has passed since the mending, planeswalkers are finding themselves ascending to states of demi-god-like beings with their old immortality and enhanced powers restored.
Question: If planeswalkers are now demi-gods again, how can I play a planeswalker card in game and justify that it has such relatively limited abilities? I mean, Jace is now a demi-god but can only mill for 7?
Wizards: Jace isn't exactly invested in your battle. You cast his card, which is a way of calling out to him for some help. He showed up, and was willing to do a few things for you, based upon his loyalty. If his loyalty to you increases, he'll do a bit more, but if it decreases, he's going to planeswalk away and go back to his own business. Him being a demi-god doesn't mean he'll use everything at his disposal to fight for you. Heck, given how demi-gods tend to act, you're lucky he's even willing to mill 7, as it were.
Frankly without any kind of official word or confirmation of anything we have no idea why he really got fired. It could have been anything from jerks at Hasbro to Brady not showing up for work last week. He said his position was eliminated, but he might have meant that as a euphemism for getting fired.
Someone just told me that Wizards is going to go back towards Planeswalkers as more god-like beings rather than mortal humans. If true (has anyone heard about this?) then maybe firing Brady had to do with his refusal (or inability) to change the direction of his mortal planeswalkers.
It's not. They're not.
This is exactly the sort of crap Brady tried to fight agains; comic book fluff.
Endless retcons and characters coming back from the dead.
Anyway I don't think they'll stop printing planeswalkers. Too much $ and hype around them.
Yeah, I seriously have no idea why anyone is suggesting that they would do this. Unless you think Wizards doesn't like making money, PW's aren't going anywhere. Expect them to be around for as long as the game itself is.

Nobody is seriously suggesting this. People who think they could go back to powerful PWs proposed a way WotC could harmonize printing PW cards and powering up PWs.
Wizards: Jace isn't exactly invested in your battle.
Unless Doubling Season is out, in which case, most planeswalkers get inexplicably excited for some undiscernable reason.
I haven't read any of the books pertaining to Magic yet, but I heard the best ones are the early ones. Still, it's always a bit sad to see someone lose a job.
If this guy was in charge of creating each of the PW's as a card, then I am HIGHLY surprised he kept his job this long.
If he created the characters and then R&D said "sorry this PW would be too good with the abilities it is, we are going to tone it down and make it bad" then shame on WotC.
Almost all of the PWs printed thus far have either been overcosted and therefore unplayable, have had irrelevant or unworthwhile abilities for the CMC of the PW, or have been plain BAD (Tibalt im looking at you).
PW's either need to act like a creature with 5, 6 or 7 CMC with an ETB effect, so that if you spend 6 to cast a PW, its abilities are worth that card. Or, WotC needs to make PW's cheaper with more toned down and generic effects (Ajani Vengeant, Jace Beleren, Garruks). Spending 6 mana to cast Chandra Ablaze, then discard a card for a chance to deal 4 damage? So i've paid 6 mana and 2 cards to possibly deal 4 damage....3x as inefficient as casting 2 shock.
I don't think Brady had anything to do with any of the cards in MTG. He was a flavor/storyline guy with little or no influence on the actual card game.
Brady had nothing to do with R&D/making actual cards in all likelihood. Leave that to the professional card designers.
I hope they go back to old walkers. Old walkers didn't do much for characters in the novels, planeswalkers in card form would do the same. Or if they did do a lot, they could just make them a very high mana cost a la karn liberated and nicol bolas, planeswalker to balance them. It shouldn't be easy to summon an old walker anyways/it would require a lot of mana to do so. I, for one, would like highly costed planeswalker cards that were dripping with flavor.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
He got what he deserved for creating the bradywalkers.
A bit extreme and definitely not deserving. If WotC didn't like his actions, they would have told him do go back to the drawing board, so apparently he wasn't the only one on ghat boat and you can't tell him to shoulder all of that.
Magic is a game, first and foremost. He had a job that was clearly phasing out and held onto him as long as possible and it looks like everyone did the best they could with what was there.
Anyone saying good riddance couldn't do a better job, because you're sitting behind a keyboard typing your emotions for free while he got paid for his ideas. Do his job and come back and see if you did it better; Sit down and shut up.

And people will still find a way to cheat them out "Drop to GY, return all to battlefield." If they did go back to the old walkers, or even make the super old walkers powerful as all get out, they would most likely go the way of suspension casters.
It's a pity the guy lost his job and all, but yeah, the current PWs *Cough*Tibalt*Cough* I could do without.

I just...don't get what your post had to do with Bread's post. Like he said, Brady had nothing to do with ultimately design/development problems like Tibalt the card.
Seems relevant, but why slash the Creative Director when they could have slashed a peon or two? Standard layoff of the old guy to save more money move or he wasn't pulling his weight or...
I would guess that it's just a part of general corporate layoffs. Some bean counter saying, why are we paying this guy $80,000 (or whatever) to do what we can just get the people who actually make the cards do. All the back stories are just generic cookie cutter fantasy fluff anyway. MaRo and Co. were doing the difficult work of coming up with the theme for the world, anyone could populate that world with cookie cutter characters and random fantasy tropes.
