I'm new to Magic. I can admit that. I played off of my older brother's cards, used his decks, then got my current deck from a booster draft. I ordered a Deckbuilder's Toolkit so I could use my own lands, at the least. I open up the second booster pack, Return to Ravnica. Inside I find a Domri Rade Planeswaker. Oh, and it's also a foil. That's a fifty dollar card on average. I mean, I started off using my green blue deck. Looks like I'm building a green red deck now.
Any suggestions? I built my old deck on super power cards, most of them between 6-8 mana cost. Further into the game, I reach the same number of cards as some aggro decks (except most of my creatures are 4/4 - 12/12). I could use some help building my new deck.
My own suggestion would be to trade the foil off while its still hot. If you want to play green / red then you can usually find collectors willing to trade two of a card for a foil version or at least that has been my experience so far. The fact that it is foil isn't something I would worry about right now as its worth more to you as a new player as multiple copies or as something else. Domri Rade is also only going to keep its price for a little longer as he rotates out of standard in about 6 months and cards tend to decline in price before and after they rotate.
So.... my suggestion would be to bare minimum see if you can trade it off for regular ones or trade it into other swag that will stick around. We are coming up on rotation though in half a year though so my guess would be that a lot of people would not be willing to trade newer stuff for foil swag from the older block so trying to get 2x copies is probably your best bet right now.
As for suggestions for cards, try to keep them cheap. Shoot more for the 1-5 mana range in general for standard play. There is a GR deck that is doing very well right now that uses Domri Rade which is why his price is so high right now. I dont think you will get $50.00 worth of value out of him though in a deck right now so my suggestion would be to try to break him down into things you could use easier for your deck.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
