Im building this deck.....it was a very good feeling to see my suggestion used and i needed a good FFA deck. Thank you for taking my idea.....i really must thank you.

Also, if im still allowed to suggest ideas..... I wanna see that Seshiro deck come together. It also can be a teaching point on how good Card Advantage is.

As a huge fan of free-for-all multiplayer (my friends at school and I tend to have games that last hours long where no one can get a foot hold, or pose big enough threat for everyone else to take out) I have to say I really like both this deck, and Dan's take on how to build for multiplayer. EDH/Commander is definitely introducing more people to the idea, but really building around this style play is very misunderstood. People look at me strange when I spend more time going through a junk bin looking for fun stuff to build around instead of just net-decking everything. As a casual brewer, I approve of this deck.

That deck looks really fun to play! Nothing like taking junky cards like Pus Kami and making them work! Just the other day, I was going through my folder and saw a foil Fold Into Æther and thought: "Holy crap, this card is usel......" and then it dawned on me that I could counter my own spells.... I got deck making, trialled it on Magic Workstation... It's legacy legal, and it wins roughly 90% of the time, by tutoring everything I need early on, and by turn four, I Fold my own Ornithopter (much to the dismay of my opponent who thought he foiled me with a Ethersworn Canonist)and biff an Emrakul or a Ulamog into play. At this point, my opponent usually RQ's XD

Anyway, I would like to see another deck utilising niche cards such as Fold into AEther, or perhaps Retether to do broken interesting things!

Ravnica is Ours works. Why would we want Dominaria? Let's go after Shandalar. That's where all the core sets are now, after all.

    Quote from NateTheArtificer
Because, Ravnica and Dominaria are the two most important planes in the multiverse. Shandalar is for newbs and Garruk.

    Hmm, interesting read.

I love using budget cards and finding weird interactions, it appeals to the Johnny-side in me. (Delaying Shield/Phyrexian Unlife/greater Auramancy anyone?)

However, I mostly play Commander or Pauper Highlander (it EXISTS!), where it's harder to pull off stuff like this, since you only have 1 card of each (barring clone effects, of course, silly!).

As such, I would love to see a singleton deck doing fun, Johnnyesque things while still being moderately budget.

I remember I used to have a deck featuring Shields of Velis Vel, Isochron Scepter and Spirit Mirror named "I Spell Doom on You ALL!" Reading stuff like this makes me remember it.
    Those were the days.
    Damn, my signature is awful!

I really enjoyed reading this article. The effort you put into it and the fun you had while writing really shows. I was a bit confused to not see Starved Rusalka though. I guess he was too obvious to not miss him.

I also have a suggestion for you:
A fun deck i built a couple years back was built around the interaction of Parallax Wave and Auramancer. Once it gets going it is really difficult to stop and you can go in every possible direction with it. I would love to see where you would go with it especially with more recent cards.

Great article, you really explained the deck choices well for mulitplayer and you had results to back it up.
  • #8
I enjoyed reading this article and the previous one you did. I could read these every day if available.

I enjoyed the article, but was rather surprised that haze-lock wasn't in the deck, since the deck was the right colors and already had hana kami in the main. Still, looks like the deck is a blast.

I am in the process of building your last deck, Master Transmuter, and will probably trade a rare or two i picked up to trade for the card in this deck. I always like to tell newbies to the game that you don't need a million dollars to play good decks. This is a perfect example. Looking forward to the next article!
Curious though, this deck is cheap, could you do an article on a pauper deck?

This is a great deck. Forked-Branch Garami and Hana Kami are truly the cornerstones of any Spirit/Arcane deck that plays Green, and it's amazing how their real value can somehow fly under the radar of a table full of opponents.

I thought about suggesting Lifespinner as another way to fish out Iname or your other toolbox Legends (while interacting profitably with Mr. Garami), but your deck might not really need the redundancy.
    Stay a while, and listen...

Me and a buddy just built a Ghave, Guru of Spores Commander deck that utilizes a similar Iname, Death Aspect engine. Very underestimated card, which makes it even more fun.

One think I would love to see your take on is my current project, Dralnu, Lich Lord. My current general, it has officially been named the "all instants and sorceries deck." The initial build has not only been extremely fun, but surprisingly powerful due to it's flexibility. Again, I would love to see your take on the idea (even if it's outside of Commander). Anyone who wants the decklist and my ideas behind everything, just send me a PM, btw.

I'm probably going to build this deck, and I never build netdecks, just for the fun of whipping someone with Kamigawa spirits. I have most of the cards too, but I'll likely only need a couple of the rares. Good job on the deck and the article.

Hey, I've been enjoying the column, and registered on the forums just so I could comment today. Great build today- I usually swear off internet decks (I primarily read for the deckbuilding tips rather than the card lists themselves) but this looks like a lot of fun.

Personally, I'm interested in possible interactions between living weapons and the new cards with the morbid rule from Innistrad. Maybe using dying Germ tokens to power a Skirsdag High Priest?

Before playing with this deck, there is one change that I would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested. Here is that change:

    -1 Death Denied
    +1 Devouring Greed

There are multiple reasons for this.

    1) What does your deck do in a creature stall? There's really no way to force your guys through. Devouring Greed gets there! It's basically the one giant bomb the deck needs to occasionally blow someone out of the water.

    2) Want to get some extra use out of those Carven Caryatids? This is one of the best cards to do it with. Your silly Defenders can't attack, anyway, so this is probably going to be their only opportunity to help you kill an opponent when they're all done looking scary as a blocker.

    3) For a multiplayer deck, the deck otherwise doesn't really have much of a way to gain life. This helps you stay alive in situations where your wall of creatures that keep coming back my not help you right now, but you would do fine if you could just survive another turn! Maybe you're racing against an unblockable creature, maybe your opponent is killing you with burn spells, etc. Who knows? We do know, though, that this card can fill that gap.

    4) Recursion! That's basically what this deck is all about! It's a great way to be able to abuse the recursion the deck has when no one is bothering to kill any of your creatures. If people just leave you alone because they know you're just going to block and bring your Spirits back, anyway, the deck might get a little boring to play. However, Devouring Greed is Arcane, too, so you can bring it back over and over and over again once you get a second Hana Kami to go along with your Death Denied combo.

    5)
Remember, when you really like a card but don't want to see more than a single copy in a game, three is the amount you want in your deck rather than four.

Do you ever really need more than one copy of Death Denied in this deck? Probably not. Your combo essentially keeps going on forever until someone Exiles it once you get the first one. So if you draw two early? One is basically just going to sit in your hand the rest of the game unless someone makes you discard it. So why not pack a card that works so well with the rest of the deck instead?

I guess that's all I really have to add. Otherwise, it was a great article and a great budget deck. This article is always fun to read, and it definitely helps me think outside of the "What Standard / Modern Deck should I be making?" inside of which I sometimes find myself becoming trapped.

    Thanks for the read!

Awesome article, way better than the first imo. Keep em coming and full of smart under the radar interactions! Smile

Id love to see a cool snake horde deck.
Also, every time I see your banner I remember one of my very favorite cards: goblin flectomancer!! Favorite flavor of a card ever, plus who doesn't love spell switching shenanigans. The problem being of course his cost and one-time-use of his ability..a cool deck with him though would be sick Smile budget izzet control with spell swapping madness maybe?

    Keep up the good work!

Awesome read this week. Like the first commenter said, I'd also love to see you build that Seshiro deck sometime.

I also requested this last week, but I figured I'd suggest it again to see if anybody else is interested in something similar. I'd love to see a deck using cards like Luminarch Ascension and Sigil of the Empty Throne to pump out an army of 4/4 flying angels.

i agree with your friends. i actually don't believe you have won with this! XD

i think this deck could have one more bonehoard, and i disagree with those that said that death denied x 4 is too much. correct me if i'm wrong, but this deck can't keep up the card quality of the others without one of those.

I love your articles and have a lot of fun reading them.

I want to see a Goat deck working with the Springjack Pasture and Springjack Shepherd cards, possibly somehow making a lot of white goats through chroma - I don't know. Is it possible in any way? Grin

Just wanted to say I loved the article. Kamigawa's always been my favorite set, and I love seeing people doing something different and not the same old same old.
I'll have to put some thought into a quirky card I love but could never work into a deck.

Hehehe, I liked this deck idea...

@NoMoshing: I'm building an FNM deck with Morbid creatures that focuses on Devouring Swarm, Fresh Meat, and Skirsdag High Priest... I might have to at least try out Bonehoard in there now that you bring it up.

Ok, anyway, here's my suggestion for your next column. I'm pretty sure all the "Supertrample" creatures (Thorn Elemental, Lone Wolf, etc) are pretty cheap... can you do something interesting and different that uses them?
