So, I'm just going to start out saying that: Yes, this deck is going to be really Janky! With that in mind, what am I trying to accomplish? I love intruder alarm combos, and althought I accept this probably isn't even going to be tier 2, I want to try and make the deck as good as it can be focusing on the alarm combos.
The Core of the Deck
Supporting Spells
Enablers
Springleaf Drum - Mana Ramp and another effect that will let you tap your dudes.
Aether Vial - Aether Vial at 3 seems good for this deck being able to drop it's pieces effectively.
Merrow Reejerey - Lord for going Aggro when needed, also more Tappy-Untappy is always good.
Fallowsage - I think he might be too slow for this, but he can potentially draw you some cards. Overall I just like Azami better and she kinda give him the boot.
Wrath of God - What?! A Wrath?! well, we're looking to combo and considering what we need from the creatures, we could wrath and combo next turn effectively. This seems good.
Draw Power
Preordain - I know Ponder has the fishy on it, but preordain is just a better draw spell if you're not running a ton of fetches (which we're probably not)
Shared Discovery - I'm not sure if this would really work or not for the deck, but I think it at least deserves a mention.
See Beyond - I ended up trying this out, and it really does exactly what I need it to more consistantly than I could imagine.
Esper Charm - One of the best instant draw spells if you decide to splash black (I might wo want to look at other things for black splashing.
I was never a huge fan of the merfolk, but this looks pretty degenerate (not in a competitive sense, but if any of the interactions go online, well....), I like it! Too bad Cryptic Gateway isn't in the format... I demand a reprint!
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

That's the card I was trying to remember, so disappointed it was just outside of modern.

Too bad Patron Wizard isn't in modern...I love its interaction with the Schoolmaster. You really should fit Judge of Currents in your sample decks to maximize the annoyance factor.
I like it. I'll do some brewing on this when i get a chance. I used to have a casual merfolk deck that used some of these cards to have a rush of tokens. Maybe i can come up with something good to add.
Nice brew. I honestly didn't know Intruder Alarm got a reprint. Good stuff.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
If you run Stonybrook Banneret, all of your creatures would cost less (plus Summon the School) and you could run Sage's Dousing. With the number of Wizards you have in the deck, you could easily cantrip with Dousing.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Should we also be running Spellskite to assist in the protection of the combo? A well-timed removal spell can blow the combo out of the water (no pun intended), or at least greatly hinder it.

During Lorwyn block this type of deck was one of my pets. Merfolk could have a real contraption assembled so you'd mill, draw, make more dudes, regrow cards, etc., if you weren't molested. A couple suggestions...
Wake thrasher is another nice Merfolk that can get pretty huge pretty quickly.
Arbor dryad for green can help set up another huge swarm with Sprout Swarm.
Cold-eyed Selkie allows you to convoke for the same while staying U.

Merrow Reejerey - Lord for going Aggro when needed, also more Tappy-Untappy is always good.
Silvergill Adept - He's just too good not to use.
Grimoire Theif - A better Milling since he gets through mill protection, he's also an efficient creature and a clutch counter
Judge of Currents - Keep me alive please.
Fallowsage - I think he might be too slow for this, but he can potentially draw you some cards. Overall I just like Azami better and she kinda give him the boot.
Merrow Commerce - more Untappy!
Control Spells
Spell Pierce - Great if you're facing off Vs. Control.
Mana Leak - Um, Good Counterspell.
Rewind - Probably one of my all time favorite counterspells
Cryptic Command - It was amazing in it's hayday, although I'm not sure it makes my favorites list in modern, I know enough people really like it.
Path to Exile - Great Creature Removal
Oblivion Ring - It hits everything!
Wrath of God - What?! A Wrath?! well, we're looking to combo and considering what we need from the creatures, we could wrath and combo next turn effectively. This seems good.

If you hate the deck, I'm probably playing it!
Also, infinite card draw...very close to hard lock via counters...seems fun.

I haven't completely decided yet, and I was thinking I'd post lists both ways. If you'd like to chip in, I'd love the help.
