I've made about five purchases over the past week through TCGPlayer and for each one I have been charged sales tax. This is new. Over the last two years over multiple vendors on TCGPlayer I've never been charged sales tax and now I am. I've looked to find some sort of notice or alert regarding the change, but I haven't seen one. My last purchase without being charged sales tax was Feb 13th.
Wanted to see if this was happening to everyone else, or to see if it was just something happening to buyers in my state (NC).
Ive had this happen once before and i didnt find out why until i look a bit closer at who i was buying from. I live in WA and i had happened to buy from WA sellers, thus i was charged tax on my purchases. That is the only time ive been charged tax, so like you said it is because you are buying within your state.
But that's just it - I'm not buying from sellers in my state. I just placed an order yesterday through Happy Viking Games and they're in Jacksonville, Fla and I was still charged NC sales tax.
Sorry to necro this thread but I found out after an email exchange with TCGPlayer that they now have an employee in the state, and as such they have a physical presence in NC now, which means that they must charge sales tax.
