Recently I sold some cards to a couple different online dealers and came across an issue. One of the companies was supposed to give me store credit for my cards worth $34.38 (I know, really breaking the bank here, but every little bit helps). When the transaction finally goes through i see there is 68.76 as my credit. i did the math quick and realized they must have posted the credit twice. I double checked with my email and sure enough i had two emails back to back posting that amount into my credit. So I quick sent an email to the company letting them know they overpaid me, then went back to the website and purchased the cards I was planning on buying with the credit. the total came out to be just over 35 bucks but I just used the 34.38 that I should and used paypal to finish off the order and thought I was good to go.
The next day I see an email from the company and they said thanks for letting them know, there was apparenlty a glitch that gave me the double credit, but (here's the kicker) they said "I can see now your credit shows the right amount so everything's back to normal."
Clearly someone at the company able to see my current credit amount would also be able to see that i just used that exact same amount of credit to make a purchase. Do i need to follow up with them again? Insist they still take the credit back because I already spent what I should have? Is this a subtle *nudge, wink* that it's their mistake, thanks for letting us know, but we are good here, go ahead and use it. I already told them they over paid me, am I morally obliged to ensure they understand their mistake? take them through step by step?
At this point, i haven't done anything further. It's been 2 days and I still have the 34.38 available as store credit, not sure what to do

I always believe in honesty being the best policy, and letting the person or company know they screwed up (Even potentially more than once) in case of a situation like this one where a quick glance to them showed everything looking okay, but in reality, it wasn't. Just toss them another message and explain that you used the credit you were supposed to get to make a purchase and the remaining credit on your account was the amount that was given in error due to the doubling credit error they mentioned in a previous message. They should then get it taken care of, and might very well give you a bonus of some kind for your honesty (or heck, might even just let you keep the credit, I've seen that before as well.) But either way, best to put in the little extra effort.
Depending on what company it is, I'd say keep it. If it's a large company like channelfireball or scg, you tried to fix their mistake and they made it again. It'd be like if they screwed up your order and gave you a discount. They didn't resolve the issue on the first time.
If it's a small, independent seller thru tcg or something, I'd probably send one more message and see what they do. If I'm on the other end of it (meaning, if you bought from me), I'd let you keep the extra credit for letting me know twice, but there's no guarantee everyone will do that.
I realize this might seem like questionable morals, since some might say you should do the same thing in either case, but imo in comparison to a large company that money means more to you then it does to them. Plus, they are able to charge more for the cards as well, the opposite of how most business works. The larger, higher volume places are actually making higher profit margins then the smaller guys.
I had a similar situation happen once with SCG, where I split up an order between paypal and credit, but they then paid me the full amount to paypal AND in credit. I tried to let them know and never heard anything back after a week, so I just kept it.
Taking something that is not yours is stealing. It doesn't matter if it comes from Nazi Germany or your mother.
That's a little harsh. Taking something that's not yours can also be called "Accepting a gift."
I like to think that I'd follow up on the matter and say "No, the credit appeared twice and I spent only what I felt I was due", but it's easy to claim virtue anonymously.
As this happened in October, I'm curious as to what the result was. OP, did you end up following up with the store? And if so, did Mercury give you all three axes?
