Some background: I've been a member of MtgFanatic.com since 2007 and I have had a pretty good relationship with the site and the owner. I was a moderator there (still have my privileges actually, even though I haven't been active on the forum for a few years), did promotional stuff for them at physical events, I even had the owner's cell number to keep in touch when I moved. I've spent around $2k at their website and sold to them nearly $4k in the last 7 years. So, needless to say, I've been very loyal to them and a household name on the site.
However, I've noticed in the past year or so a degradation of customer service and a slowing down of a lot of aspects of the business, specifically regarding their buylist. It used to take a month (which is still a substantial amount of time) to get paid for a sale to them, but I was generally okay with that because they bought a lot of cards and at decent prices. Then it started slipping and taking longer and longer...
Most recently, I made 3 sales, three days in a row...3/10, 3/11, 3/12 of this year. Now, nearly FOUR MONTHS later, I have not been paid. I wrote to their customer service (which I know is just the owner) and received no response for several messages regarding payment. I finally wrote another message at the end of May that said if I didn't get paid by July, I would be contacting the attorney general, the BBB, etc. His response? "There's people ahead of you that need to be paid. If you don't like it we'll send your cards back."
Btw, the turnaround time for their buylist service is listed as a WHOPPING 12 weeks. My sales are now 5 weeks overdue from that.
Now, as fellow Magic players, you must know that four months can mean a massive swing in card value, especially if what I sold was standard legal at the time. That would mean they essentially robbed me of the value of those cards by sitting on them. So, of course, this is not an option for me to just have them "send them back". And so I told them that no, in fact, I wanted to be paid. Well, here it is, July 6th and I still have not been paid. I've contacted the TX attorney general, the Houston Better Business Bureau, wrote on Ripoffreport.com, and here I am on this site. I will do whatever necessary to make sure that they are exposed for their shady practices, poor customer service, and uncaring attitude towards customers.
Kind of a shame you missed this 4-year-old thread that covers more of the same (OP was right around when you joined the site, too), but good to know you've spread the word around a little more.
I am waiting on my latest payment from them. I've had no problems except for lately like the OP. Didn't mind waiting a month before but now it's more like 6 months. This is my 15th sale to them and I have been paid each time relatively promptly. My order is from yours 6jerfz... the latest is from mid FEB. I got paid for my November order in April. This will be my last sale order to them for sure.. I will update when I receive payment. I email weekly and apparently my cheque has shipped.
