Not sure this is the best place to ask this so feel free to move it if needed
My question is simple: would a brick & mortar store make enough profit by selling singles @ TCG mid price? I'm asking since I might open a board games /collectibles shop and all the competition here follow SCG prices, but to me they are always overpriced. Ex: Kataki at $9.99, while TCG mid is $8
I suppose it all depends on the price you are able to get your singles at and how much real estate you want to give to singles compared to packs and other board games. I don't know what kind of margins you get on board games, but if you can get singles for 50% or less of the TCG mid price, I'd imagine it would be worth it to sell at that price.
Many of the FLGS in my area use TCG mid, so it wouldn't be impossible. Where you will sink or swim is how you accept trades for store credit, buy collections, and things like Prize Support.
I handle 90% of pricing at the store I work at. I use TCG mid, or ebay mid prices for high dollar cards (Force of Will, dual lands, etc). Before I was brought on, we priced the asme as Star City Games. Since ten, we've grown substantially in singles sales. I'd say yes, especially if competition uses Star City Games.

Being competitive or cheap is good, but be careful on trying to be to competitive on everything. Having the best prices doesn`t do you any good when you are out of stock of all the hot cards. You have to strike a balance and also know what the other local stores are doing as well.
well, most game shops also make a lot of sales through snacks and drinks. Not to mention other types of games (minis, table tops, etc. etc...) unless you're restricting yourself to 1 aspect of hobby gaming I'd take those into consideration as well.
