I would still contact them and see what they might do. They allowed a fake to get through and sold it as real. That is on them, and would look bad for business if people thought they couldn't trust SCG anymore and online sales went down.

Can you explain in detail how it failed the light test? I rigorously test all duels before trading and I have yet to suspect a fake from the light test. I would just like to know what you observed
It wouldn't be worth it for SCG to intentionally sell fake cards, however it could accidentally happen. However it shouldn't happen accidentally if you're SCG, a multi million dollar company, you shouldn't allow fakes no matter how convincing to go through.
Mistakes should not happen, but they do unfortunately. Especially in bigger, arguably more important industries, such as the food industry.
That being said, it never hurts to try, but I am doubtful you will get much accomplished. Can you prove to SCG that Volcanic Island is the same one you bought from them? You may have case then.
Yep, as Mudkip said, please contact SCG, tell clearly what has happened, be truthful and ask them if there's anything you can do. Be prepared to send the card to them, if they ask. If the card is only spotted at light test, people will be interested to see it and learn how to spot any future fakes.
This sounds pretty much like how other big name stores have been had. Their buyer in an even buys a bunch of cards and the fake doesn't get spotted for some reason at that point. Then the card is sold during that same event, before it ever hits the SCG stock where the fake would have been most likely spotted. The time period sound about right for when the first 'good' fakes blindsided some buyers.
It sucks that this happened, but give SCG a chance to respond to your case before coming out over the internet and being angry. So far there's a reason to be worried, but not yet angry at the store, who doesn't even know what has happened.
It had been in my narset EDH deck up until about 2 weeks ago, I thought about that but I could just never tell if there was a window for someone to do that I don't think there was a time in the past 2 weeks that anyone would've had the chance

I definitely wouldn't go writing FAKE on it before you at least have another expert inspect it and also contact SCG to at least let them know about the situation.
If your claim is legit, SCG should provide a refund or replacement. Otherwise, what sort of precedent will SCG, the largest online Mtg store be setting?
SCG: "Too bad. We did not check and sold a fake card but you did not check and a year had passed so .. water under the bridge ..?"
We're in touch with Robert about his concerns. As always, we are certain of the authenticity of the cards that we sell and have offered to pay to have this one authenticated officially by a third party.
As a reminder, SCG employs experts and only professionally trained graders are authorized to buy and sell cards of this value. Cards of this value are carefully examined before being acquired and offered for sale.

Hi DJ. I am curious what you mean by the term "professionally trained graders". What credentials do these graders have? Does SCG offer a course on grading, or do you send your graders to courses at BGS or PSA?

The folks handling those items are professional graders in the sense that they grade cards daily in a vocational capacity and have received training on how to identify counterfeits. The training is proprietary in nature and is the result of decades of combined experience in the field.
First, I wish to point out a disparity with SCG Advanced Search.
BFZ defines searches for 'devoid' cards as colored.
OGW defines searches for 'devoid' cards as colorless.
eg. When color filtering, OGW displays 'devoid' cards within artifact cards whereas BFZ displays them within colored cards corresponding to their casting cost.
Second, 'Zendikar Expeditions' searches in SCG Advanced Search still produced zero results. Kindly advise.
I'll talk to the minister of product data on that devoid issue, it sounds unintentional.
As for the Expeditions issue, it's a bit convoluted as to why they aren't returned when you search that way, but here is a direct link that you can use to access that category:
Just wanted to mention that I placed an order with SCG last week (hooray for the holiday sale!) and it got where it was going with minimal fuss. The system works; good job people.

Your 'Foil' option is default at 'No foils' which will generate this message 'Your query produced zero results.' whenever i tick 'Zendikar Expeditions'.
All's well when i changed to 'Foils only'.
Aha! Well we both goofed then because I thought you were searching on the main page. I now see your specification that this was on the Advanced Search page! Glad we had this talk.
I am just dropping in to say that I am always super impressed when I buy cards from SCG that are listed as not NM. Whenever I buy a SP card, I am ecstatic with the quality that they come in.

One of these day I have to get myself organizized.
I had a small hiccup with my last sale order. I sent in my cards and had to send an email after a week (which seemed reasonable given only a few states away, holidays over, no bad weather, etc etc..) of nothing seemingly happening. They were quick with the email back and they had my order but after processing they deducted a flat $10.00 from the total (which they actually deducted slighty more than that, from the initial order) and didn't give a reason why (though I probably should have asked but was too busy at the time) but I am unsure what exactly went wrong as I am very harsh grading my own cards and I sent the same day my sale list was approved. This isn't the first time I have sold to them and the other times went great, no problems, and I did the exact same things as this time.
I guess my only suggestion is if something is going to be deducted, perhaps give a reason why. Doesn't have to be a paragraph or so in great detail because I can only imagine how busy you all are, but a small explanation would be great .
Thank you for the feedback. I definitely agree with the essence of your suggestion and that's exactly how I would prefer us to handle these ideally. The reason that we don't currently is that doing so would delay our process considerably.
In an effort to be more efficient any adjustments that are a matter of general grading discrepancies are not usually explained in detail at this time. That said, an important difference when selling to us is that we don't consider your items to be our merchandise until after you have agreed to any adjustments. In the future though, definitely let us know if you want clarification and we'll be happy to explain.
I will also touch base with the manager of that process and ensure that your feedback is taken into consideration. We are always working to improve our processes!
I've had a pretty good experience with them. They do seem to care about customer service. I will say, though, that it's not worth buying the rarer or more expensive cards from them; with rare exceptions, their prices on those tend to suck. Great store for buying massive amounts of 15-cent commons...not so much if you're after things like planeswalkers, Emrakul, or Avacyn.
I feel compelled to complement SCG and D.J. Keesee. I went through a process of asking a few questions and asking for scans and in the course of this process a few things changed and D.J was more than helpful in resolving everything to a degree that I know I would not receive from other major dealers and certainly not on TCGPlayer.
Sometimes SCG gets a bad wrap for being expensive compared to other online marketplaces, but what they offer that others can't is impeccable service and integrity to their customers. They are true masters in the art of sales and I have the utmost respect for the way they run their business.
There's not a universal answer here due to how many variables are in play. We have different protocols for each shipper that we use and returning customers are treated differently at times.
That said, you will only have to sign for something that is less than $150 USD if you are a first-time customer or selected an expedited shipping service.
I recently abandoned my usual pre-ordering on eBay in favor of going with SCG. The process so far has been really great. They contacted me about a hiccup with my shipping address and sorted it out quickly. They've seamlessly updated the order as I added new things during spoiler season. And, best of all, the prices were comparable to eBaying preorders. (Well, the latter is only true because I pounced on a few key cards before they blew up, but point remains.)
Had a good experience, would come back again.
