So this guy's telling you that his family is going to be tossed out on the street penniless and starving and his dog is going to be kicked repeatedly if you don't give him a positive feedback...and he still won't honor the original deal?
Has anyone had experience buying SP or MP cards from SCG? I've looked at the descriptions on the website, but I was wondering if any of you could give me an insight on how accurate the standards really are.
Have you ordered SP cards and received really beat cards? Or have you ordered SP or MP cards and received cards that looked really clean?
If anything, I find that StarCity's played cards show up in better condition than I expect. They seem to be pretty conservative graders.

Yeah condition-wise SCG is very critical. They won't put a card as M/NM unless it's truly without the slightest flaw. SP cards also tend to be very solid. I don't buy MP cards because the condition can vary greatly at that point that it's worth it to pay the premium for a better grade, but i'm sure SCG would be the best source for cards in that condition. I've heard stories of other stores grade everything MP/Played using it as a way to unload some awful looking cards.
Well I was hesitant but I ordered 2 booster boxes and some 400-card boxes and a couple singles off them. Came fast and I can dig the price.
As much as I want the Buy-a-box promo(a sucker for shinies) I will be doing my order here! Also, will the card boxes from the fat packs and the players guide match the 2012 prices?

We'll probably have the Innistrad Player's Guide and Card Boxes up early next week, and they will be the same price as the 2012 ones.

For what it's worth, we have a "floor" on how beat up an MP card can be. For the past year, we've created a new "HP" condition for cards that are creased up heavily/severely whitened/damaged, and those "HP" cards are not for sale on the website - we only sell them in person at shows, where the buyer can physically inspect the card before purchasing it.
For what it's worth, we're always happy to provide scans if requested!

They did this for me precisely with a Japanese Breeding Pool I was considering for purchase almost a year ago. I was truly impressed; it helped me significantly in the decision for my purchase. I don't know anyone else who would have taken the effort.

Yet another reason why SCG is miles ahead in terms of customer service of any other online store Ive dealt with. They are willing to go the extra mile, even while being as huge as they are in terms of their business.
While Star City does tend to be a bit pricey, you darn well get what you pay for. I have never had an issue, the cards have always been in the condition specified or BETTER, and they always arrive pretty quickly. I would always recommend them, unless you are buying current staples since they are rather pricey there.
I ordered 2 pretty expensive foils for my edh deck on thursday evening. one was listed as sp. they are both in awesome condition and arrived today in WA state which is about as far away from VA as you can get. thanks for the great service

As a more precise testimony to the quality of their service:
Aug 07 (Sunday) I contacted the sales department about an SP Japanese Mystic Gate I was considering for purchase. By Monday afternoon, their Inventory Controller, Aaron Stevenson, emailed me the following:
"I have selected the four cards in the best condition and scanned those. Each scan is identified by a number that can be found in the filename. If you want a specific card or cards, you can order those through our website. Just add the cards to your shopping cart and check out as normal. In step 5, there is a text area for comments and additional instructions. Put the numbers that belong to the particular cards you want in this field, and we'll make sure you get the right ones. If you need scans of the other cards we have in stock, please let me know."
I just received my package today, August 16 (Tuesday). Note that I live in Canada, where estimated delivery times across the border are 5-14 business days. The attachment on the left is the scan they sent me of the card I chose. The scan on the right is the card I just received (sorry for the poor quality, taken from my phone). The card is *better* than the condition shown in the scan, and for me would have passed as NM any day.
For SCG and its employees, an accurate testimony from a satisfied customer, showing hard proof of its quality service online! Thank you so much--

Well once again I had a great order from them. Got it in today and was it wrong of me to smile more that someone had actually taken the time, with a pen to write "Thanks" on the paper, than for the cards and stuff I had ordered?
I may balk a little at some prices but, I will be damned if I wouldn't pay those thanks to the service!
I heard previously that there was going to be cheaper shipping option for small single orders. Is this ever coming? The shipping prices are just not competitive at all for small quantity orders. It makes me mad. SCG is the only reliable source for older cards and foils, but every time I add them to my cart and see the shipping I cringe. I can get a playset of a card shipped at the majority of sites for $2.5-3.00. At SCG it's like $5.75-10.

If your order is under $50, you can choose the first class shipping option for $1.71. If your order is $50-$99.99 then you can choose priority mail for $5.95. If your order is $100+, then you can choose UPS ground at $9.45. Its a way for them to cover themselves in case of loss or otherwise as they can add tracking and more security the higher the dollar amount.
If you are looking for cheap stuff, you can still get cheap shipping :).

Hello Mugaaz!
The short answer is yes! We have recently changed the way that our shipping amounts are calculated and prices have lowered on many options.
There are always factors that play a role in determining shipping costs such as location or the weight and size of the package, but we can ship smaller orders for as low as $1.71. This covers USPS First Class mail to nearly any domestic location.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
Thanks also to jeffbcrandall, he is correct about the current value limits. I think most people prefer an upgraded shipping method when they are investing more than $50 into the game.
Ahh, I see now that youre right that it depends on dollar amount. However, I don't understand why I'm forced to choose priority shipping for USPS based on order total. If I select USPS I am responsible for the shipment regardless of what happens to it.
I appreciate you guys having the new cheaper USPS options for smaller orders.

Hello again!
We definitely appreciate the feedback. I am passing this along to our Customer Service folks and I assure you that we will take this into consideration. We are always looking for ways to improve our shipping options.
Why are your card conditions so poor. When I asked for Near Mint I get played conditions. It's pretty bad. I mean customer service is nice and all but I prefer to buy from smaller vendors now because of better/cheaper shipping options and I tend to get better quality cards. SCG was the first vendor I purchased from casually and remains the first.
What did you buy, and what condition was it listed under just out of curiosity. If there is one online store that Ive never had an issue with singles with, its SCG. Ive found that a number of vendors on a site like tcgplayer are often very poor at properly registering conditions, much moreso than SCG.
EDIT: And as a second thought, what do you mean you "asked for NM"? The cards listed on the site are clearly spelled out what the conditions are, and are often understated, many people Ive seen give reviews of their purchase have said how they ordered lightly played or the like and got what looked like NM and such.

Just a misuse of wording. I clearly got Near mint but it was meh. I don't really care for it. As long as the card isn't in horrible condition. I'm fine with it. I have similar experiences of the people you mentioned but with other vendors. Maybe it was just I did not like the shipping price at all and it probably rolled over to the card conditions and it just made the general purchase experience negative.

It has been quite a while. Like I said, I feel like the shipping options are outrageous for what I ordered and that may have affected my overall opinion of the store more. like I think it was 8-9 dollars shipping for one card and that is cheapest option? come on now that is just rather ridiculous.

If that single card you were looking to buy was going for more than $100, then thats likely why the shipping option was so high. If it wasnt, then you probably need to look a little more closely at the shipping options listed on the page as the USPS options are further down the page if I recall correctly from the UPS options.
Yes I read up on that but I checked right now and that was the shipping price. I tried to order 1x Elspeth, Knight-Errant and the cheapest shipping price was around 9 $ maybe I am filling something out wrong? shipping almost cost as much as the card.
