Placed an order for a quantity of four of an item with 11 listed as in stock. Was informed they had less of the item than expected and offered to send me two but with a similar shipping cost. I asked for lower shipping and my order was cancelled.
I felt insulted. Customer service was very short with me.
Glad so many others have had good interactions, but I did not.

If it was for the .99 shipping cost (if that was what was being used) then thats allready about as cheap as you are going to find, regardless of quantity from an online store (unless you order a bunch of stuff an qualify for free shipping or something). As far as the inventory error, thats unfortunate to be sure, I imagine they must have had ineventory listed on multiple sites and they didnt update quick enough and ran into an issue of double selling accidently. They probably should have handled it better than just kneejerk cancelling your order after you asked for a lower shipping charge, but it may also depend on how you made the request as well.

It was a set of preconstructed decks. Four shipped for $54, they offered to ship two for $46. I asked if they could use a flat rate box and they cancelled my order.
I didn't mind the inventory mixup at all. It sounds like they have a brick and mortar store and things like that are bound to happen.
Any other Canadians find they consistently get charged duty when ordered from these guys? I noticed one guy mention it early in the thread and I'm really looking to order something from them but it's not worth it if I'm looking at another 10+ dollars in duty.

Well, putting the proper value of the items being mailed on the customs form is part of what any seller is supposed to do when selling to an international buyer. I find it rather unfortunate that a legitimate business is potentially being faulted for simply following the law. I personally ran into similar issues from buyers back a few years when I was still selling internationally and it among other reasons was why I inevitably decided to stop selling internationally. Everyone wants to get the cards for cheaper via buying them from the US, but they dont want to pay the higher real costs of shipping or their own countries customs fees that are simply part of the taxes they pay that help pay for the benefits they receive as a citizen of that country.
That said, I of course completely understand not wanting to pay more than you need to, its just unfortunate that both buyers and sellers are facilitating an environment to where the people that are choosing to follow all the rules to the letter are faulted for doing so.
Just my personal point of view though, not saying you should buy from them or anything (though Ive had nothing but good experiences buying from them in the past), just feel free to look around, I dont feel you should expect to get away with not paying the customs fees if the real value of the order would demand it is all.

But ordering for $19.18x3 + $1.70 Shipping +$9.99 + potential tax from a US company just isn't worth it when I can order for $19.99 + 2-3 Shipping + Tax built in/no tax from a Canadian one.
If it were not something as fluctuating as a collector card item and the value wasn't based on perceived value, then I wouldn't have a problem with customs. However, it's also frustrating that with family in Houston, where I go a few times a year, I can bring back 250-750 dollars worth of stuff duty free but I can't receive more than 20 in the mail. Or, I could send it to my parents and have them forward it to me, adding unnecessary length to the order but still circumventing customs silly and ever-changing outrageous charges.
Largely, I'm annoyed about the 9.99 "handling" fee customs charges, not about the actual tax charged. Tax I'm used to.
This company seems like a good one, and I'd love to order from them but the Canadian government makes that unattractive lol. Nonetheless, thank you for your answer.

Yeah, unfortunately thats the effect the canadian government is aiming for with such charges/taxes/fees is that they want you to buy from within the country, rather than from outside the country. Here within the US we dont have to worry about that (thankfully), but I know many(if not most) other countries around the world have some form of customs charges and the like to encourage buying within their country or to at least make sure they get their piece of the sale. I suppose then if its not significantly more expensive to buy within the country (as per your example) then it would simply be worth it (and probably quicker) just to order that way than having to deal with all the potential customs issues.
I just attempted to purchase a wad of cards from Strikezone.
took me ages to get them al as it was a bunch of old commons and uncommons and only a few good rares.
Then after the purchase I received an email form some guy called Dustin asking my to scan a copy of my credit card and ID to him to verify.
I have never been asked to do this anywhere, and it is totally confusing to me.
I don't just send my personal details (and scans mind you) over the internet to people i don't know.
Further i was not informed that I would have to do all this extra stuff when I purchased, simply put, I would have gone elsewhere as I don't just send my details anywhere over the internet.
So i am now informed that my order is cancelled because I would send copies of all my ID etc.
I am in Australia, so I don't know if this is an international thing or what... but I am pretty pissed off because it took me ages to enter all these commons etc, just to be told no.
They really need to tell you that you need to send copies of all your details prior to the purchase, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased form them.

Its likely due to the high dollar amount, due to the international nature of the order, and to allow them to cover themselves in case there is an issue. International order fraud does happen, and especially can happen for larger orders. Assuring you are who you say you are, and that your official address information matches all of the other information they requested, would safely verify your identity. Dealing with a large online store like Strikezone I would say would be safe enough to sending the requested information. Sometimes you simply have to look at it from the businesses perspective.
I'm sure if you were to contact strikezone about it again that they may likely echo many of the same things I mentioned, but that's just my best estimation.
I placed an order with them after having used them regularly for the past 6 years. It came three days late which is very odd for them and missing a playset. I'm not international or anything like that, but my orders had always come 3 business days later. Every time. Except this one. I'm posting this to see if anyone else has had similar issues. Not a big deal, but with places like capefear, adventureson, scgm and my lgs, anyone online store who wants to retain my business can't be that late. I just placed another small order with szo over the holidays just to make sure it's a one-of-a-kind thing.

Just got a buylist order back where they refused 1/3 of my cards. I looked at the cards again and would say at least 80% of them are Mint, while the others are Near Mint. They said their condition was not up to par, but, I have never had problems with my grading before.
They sent back my cards and the filler cards I used (so that the cards would not get damaged in transit) on my own dime.
I have sold to many other vendors that only take Mint cards and have never had any cards sent back after I graded them, not to mention 10+.
Hey first time poster, long time lurker and am trying to check on good vendors. I've had two very different experiences with them this month. I live in Australia and can echo Burkeyboys comments
first time via Amazon - purchase came within timeframe, in good condition with hard cover plastic protective packaging. Also noted sneaky little business card asking to deal directly with their website instead of third parties like Amazon. Fair enough.
second time via website - international shipping prices is double what amazon puts up. Webpage is not as user friendly when you want to add or delete. Order got through and got an e-mail ala Burkeyboy's from an AOL account not strikezone account requesting for photo ID, then afterwards a strikezone e-mail saying it all shipped. This is very confusing so I didn't reply back to the AOL account (which is my bad but it was confusing and suspicious and they had only sold to me two/three weeks ago). Two days later I got notified, shipping got cancelled.
I still haven't received money back yet but I know I'm already hit by international transaction fee and sudden drop in AUD against USD this week if they do manage to reimburse me. I guess for all Aussies, stick with third parties until the dollar goes back up.
I'd appreciate if they withhold credit card processing before shipping so that we can easily reverse charges and also notify requirement for photo id, this isn't mentioned on the site.
I believe I have ordered more cards from Strike Zone than any other online vendor. I am constantly pleased with their stock and speedy delivery.
I'll second this. I always seem to come back to them.
Some cons, to be fair:
1) "NM" foils from older sets can be pretty cloudy and will always be curled. New (Standard) foils are typically NM.
2) Sometimes my envelope will contain a cash refund for a card that they weren't able to find, with no explanation. C'mon, folks, you have my email address. Let me know ahead of time.
3) The site itself is painful to use. Some sort of floating cart would be a significant improvement, or even a series of checkboxes so that I could add a number of items to my cart at once.
4) Photos would be nice.
However, their prices and selections are pretty tough to beat, and in the end that's what's important to me. I will definitely keep shopping there.

This is likely due to the fact they are located in Houston, TX where it is hot and humid 8 months of the year. Also, last I was down there, they were located in a rundown plaza which probably means their A/C is not up to snuff. (Pretty common problem.)
I'd just avoid ordering foils from them.
They are great for all other things, they are located nearby and I usually get my cards next day if I order before noon.

Point 2 just happened to me in the recent order I bought from them. I can't say that I'm dissatisfied since they did send cash in place of the card, but it would be nice to have some notification beforehand.

I ordered 7 Ashiok from Strikezone at 18.32 each today through TCG because of the positive coverage at SCG Worcester. Later, I received a full refund because they oversold. However, they have 4 listed on their main website at 25 each.
I messaged them back asking if they will honor the price for those 4. Let's see what they have to say.
Saw them selling Figure of Destinyfor .39/card so I tried to snap up as many as I could (listed qty was 7). They didn't follow through on the order, saying that they were out of stock while immediately listing 7 of them at $3.19. I can understand that it was a misprint, but most stores will own up if it means keeping a customer (just bought 7x Tariel, Reckoner of Souls at $2 each from coreTCG and those shipped fine) Don't lie and say you're out of stock.
When I told him that refusal to follow through on a sale would be reflected in my feedback, I was treated to this little gem in the middle of his reply
"you dont deserver to get over becuase of a typo error"
Wow. That's shady. I've used their site for years. And recently they forget cards, send me the wrong cards and then stories like this? Well they're not the only fish in the sea.
Seems like most online card stores have that little disclaimer about canceling orders whenever they see fit. No need to lie.

Yeah, I won't be going there again
You're not really a valued customer if all you're trying to do is snipe mis-listed cards off of them for profit. I've actually emailed stores that had cards listed online WAAAAY too low to let them know of their error.
Full disclosure: StrikeZone is one of my local stores and I often go there for their $5 FNM drafts.

I'm aware of this. I was far more put off by my communication with the seller than the fact that I didn't get the cards in the mail.
I recently ordered a pretty big order of cards from Strikezone and was so happy with the experience.
First, they had all 48 of the cards I had on my list in stock, though I had to buy foils of two because they didn't have any non-foil. No other online store or local store could say this.
Strikezone emailed through every step of the process, to the point of order received, pulled and shipped. I placed my order on a Wednesday after and my cards are here Saturday afternoon, all firmly in NM/M as ordered and secured in a sealed package, bookended by two hard card protectors.
5/5, for sure. The fact that someone said they do $5 drafts makes me wish I had a local store this good.

Yeah, it just happened again in the order that I got from them on Friday.
I messaged them back asking if they will honor the price for those 4. Let's see what they have to say.

My Sell List:

When I told him that refusal to follow through on a sale would be reflected in my feedback, I was treated to this little gem in the middle of his reply
"you dont deserver to get over becuase of a typo error"
Yeah, I won't be going there again

Seems like most online card stores have that little disclaimer about canceling orders whenever they see fit. No need to lie.
