While I do agree most times a quantity being irrelevant, if you were trying to buy something like 48, that would be different. Hve you tried asking him to send you a playset at the very least? (Either way, 16 seems fair enough, so added to the list.)
I asked him why would he post that amount, not have anything about order qtys in the description and get mad when someone buys all of them. I was told,
"i don't send more than normal customer quantities. i already refunded your money. sorry for the inconvenience.
klaus joede - stardustshop"
Bc it was overseas for me to get 4+shipping I might as well order it in the states at that point.
What's funny is I'm certain if I bought a 10 cent card for a dollar in that qty he wouldn't have been able to get them out into the mail fast enough.
No man, its fair. I will admit that at a certain level, I get conflicted myself. On one hand, set up your shop so people cant buy more at a time than you'd want, but on the other, im very highly on stores saying, "Hey, this card spiked and you ordered 32 (or something of them). We can only send you 8." At least then, they are at the very least meeting halfway.
But again, what I posted in the OP makes it clear: Dont question the customer. If they can order that many because of your site, then they should be allowed to.
I have had this happen with channel fireball and troll and toad also had it happen once with coolstuff. Never ordered from any of them again. That's a total deal breaker.
So they essentially gave out purchase information of players who bought cards from them (and maybe other stores, although im not 100%). While its not a store cancelling, it falls into something that a potential customer should be aware of: For the right price, this store will sell what your purchase history is. Thats a line that really shouldnt be crossed and people should be aware that this store has.
Apologies Mods for a double-post, but I want to make aware that I am adding a "store" to the front page: Monthly Magic Box. For reasoning why, I'll let Tolarian Community College explain why here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYh0FkdSVmY
Might be irrelevant seeing as how it is on the list but anyway yeah Imma just tell my Trollandtoad story. They did cancel my order of 7 courser of kruphixes last year (3 for me and 4 for a friend) and it was a little while before the spike. We were not even trying make a profit, we just wanted the card for our decks.
The thing that pissed me off the most was their reasoning for doing so, they said that they had issues confirming my apartment number, which I knew was total BS cuz I ordered from the plenty of times before, from the same address. Also they did not even refund my actual money, they gave me store credit, like they actually expected me to shop from them again.
Just ordered a Commanders Arsenal Foil Mind's Eye from them 3 days ago. I received an order confirmation the same day and after 2 days without a shipping notification I emailed them asking what the hold up was, and I was informed that due to the holiday season, orders took longer to process. The card has since nearly doubled in value and I was notified that my order was cancelled due to being "out of stock". I am very skeptical that it took them 3 days to learn that the card was out of stock...
Something doesn't add up. Could they be telling the truth? Sure. I would give them the benefit of the doubt had the card not spiked or had they notified me that it was out of stock in a reasonable amount of time.
They have refunded my money which is fine, but I am left feeling disappointed and will not shop with them again, and will advise those I play with to do the same.
Pastimes Games cancelled my playset of GGT's after the price spiked due to the unban. They claimed that they had orders which came in that would've required them to have 100 more cards of GGT than they currently had in stock. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since it would mean they were listing product they didn't actually have in stock in the first place. As a result, I call BS, and suspect they cancelled because of the price hike.

One thing I have noticed, is that a lot of businesses will list their current stock inventory on multiple sites at the same time. Like their own website, Tcgplayer, Ebay, etc all at the same time. The issue with this, is under scenario's like an unban where people are looking and buying out from each simultaneously there is a lag between when the communication between each other hits and the inventory is adjusted. So its entirely possible that they had, say, 50 of the card in stock listed on their website, plus 50 listed on tcgplayer, and 50 listed on ebay, or something like that, and because they were all bought out at the same time (also entirely possible for the numbers due to the duel deck copies which a lot of stores had large backlogs of before today), that they did in fact oversell by close to 100 due to this issue. This is why I make a point to have specific inventory for each place I sell at (ebay/shop/etc) because stuff like that can happen.
With that said, its also entirely possible that they could be cancelling orders due to the price spike. I obviously don't know one way or the other, but figured I would present a possible explanation for what they were saying as its something I have seen happen before.
Now if they suddenly restock a ton of the card at the higher price I would be HIGHLY leaning towards what you thought though.
I go to pastimes regularly and have always been really happy with how they accommodate customers. I can ask them about what happened this weekend if you'd like.
I'm holding off for the moment as this seems like something that while its very suspicious, can be also explained by a simple clerical error. It would be nice if they honored the orders that they had to cancel for this, but thats just something nice they could do.
Had strikezone cancel two separate orders on me Sunday night. One was for siege frontiers along with a few other cards, I put that order in at 10 AM on Sunday. Second was for Tasigurs later on in the day.
I received an email maybe 10 mins after I put in the Tasigur order saying they oversold and were refunding my order. Right after they refunded the order from that morning claiming the same thing. When I asked why both were getting canceled I was told It happens to all other dealers as well when a card spikes. So be it I let it go until I check the following day and notice they have 30+ of every card I ordered at triple the price now. When I emailed them back asking about it I was told they bought those AFTER (how convenient right?) I put in my purchase order and would not send me any of them.
I did not see tcgplayer on list, but I thought ive heard they have done this before, anybody else heard anything like this? (First post)
TCGPlayer recently had a ton of oversells after the modern banlist. I know I personally had to cancel a few orders due to oversells because like a lot of stores our cards are listed on multiple venues(tcgplayer, amazon, ebay) so when multiple people buy from multiple places including my own site it can cause an oversell.

Definitely the risk associated with listing the same inventory in multiple places. Understandable though, just unfortunate when those runs on cards like that come, as it leaves some unhappy customers and can lead to some unfortunate negative PR online from said people who weren't able to get what they ordered. I am curious though, how quickly does the inventory normally update between the sites, and is it automatic or do you have to manually adjust it? I personally would be too worried at running into an issue of overselling to ever list the same inventory in multiple places, (why I always used to separate shop vs ebay inventory for example to avoid such issues.)
Not sure I buy that as a valid excuse. If you as a seller are going to list the same stock on multiple platforms with no integration with one another, you should be implementing a technology solution to ensure that those platforms stay in sync and that you're honestly representing to your customers the items you are advertising for sale. If you can't do that, and you still choose to offer up the same inventory for sale in multiple places for the sake of increased sales, you're choosing profit over customer service and honest dealings with your buyers just as surely as the guy who cancels orders simply because he can hold the card and resell it for 3x the price.
Edited to reflect that CFG's cancelled orders were the result of a technology failure, not a lack of inventory management software. An unfortunate, understandable situation and not the result of greed.
I ordered, among other things, two tasigur, the golden fang just before it spiked last sunday at rancoredelf.com. I have already bought a couple of times there before. After a while, he reverted the charge on my cards, with the excuse that I had another order being shipped from him and he "doesn't allow having two orders at the same time". ?!?
(Tasigur had doubled in value between the time I ordered and cancellation.) Oh well. Back to facetoface game then.
Unfortunately, rancored_elf has admitted on here to canceling orders because of a price spike. It's been covered in this thread. Last time he pulled this crap it was on Pearl Lake Ancient, which after a very, very brief pro tour-induced spike is now back to bulk mythic prices. I really hope lost business from his slimy, deceitful practices catches up with him.
I personally had an order for a playset of Tasigur with coolstuffinc, which they honored despite the spike. Meanwhile, I opened an extra and traded it on pucatrade the day before the spike. Come Monday morning, I still sent it out and honored the deal despite the fact that it was now worth twice the price, because I'd agreed to a price I was happy with at the time and I have a conscience.

This is what every single large store does that uses crystalcommerce. If you want to be first in queue you can buy direct from the store instead of through amazon/tcgplayer/ebay because you're going directly through the site. A lot of stores also offer discounts for buying directly since we save on fees.
During unbannings/bannings this is the only time we really run into this issue and typically people are very understanding as the system gets really overloaded. Next time we may just take our inventory offline on all 3rd party sites for 30 minutes or something to try to combat this.

I politely disagree with your argument because there is a system in place to prevent oversells but it's not perfect and as the system is being overloaded with the amount of orders and the potential for issues goes up drastically. Crystalcommerce had a huge issue this banlist update which caused a ton of stores to oversell. I really wish we could afford a new custom site but to do a site with a back-end that is comparable to what we have now would easily cost over $200k and I just don't have that much money sitting aside to invest. Of course I hope that changes one day. We may just take all of our inventory down next time instead.
