The other thing that doesn't help is that I have a bunch of foils that I can't list either.
I would have assumed that had been added by now, but I can sort of see why it hasn't. I am not sure what pricelist you would use for them as I am not sure there is an accepted one and whatever it is it needs to be in a format such that the software can auto-update prices as they change. It would be hell to maintain such a list, especially when you are doing it as a passion project rather than an actual job.
The other issue is that Foils are a pretty niche market. I know stores that are pretty big but will not pay more for all but the most desired foils because no one wants to pay a premium for them.
It's a neat idea, but it needs more work, or more people, or both.
I agree on both parts, and I am sure the creators would too, but the hard part is getting faithful people to stay active while the site builds.
If you followed their posts on tumblr, the new features are coming in early September.
I've sent out over 500 cards and received under 200. The value ranges from 15-10000pts cards. I like the store credit analogy that was provided earlier. Essentially selling cards that I don't need to buy cards I'm after. If you do the maths, it's like I'm trading up my cards (almost 3x ie 3x $10 cards for 1x $30 card etc, but after you factor in postage costs it works out more like 2x).
My send list is always 2-4 pages (having added my whole collection of 16000 cards), but most of them aren't worth the postage fee for me to send out. Nevertheless, it hasn't stopped me accumulating enough points to receive a bayou, dark confidant, taiga and several fetch lands.
Since joining pucatrade, I pretty much stopped buying singles now. I only attend the prerelease (and the occasional GP) and send out anything that could cover my postage fees. My want lists are mainly edh staples since that's the only other format I play apart from limited.
I stopped trading there a while ago because I needed to focus my attention elsewhere, and I was doing a pretty good amount of trading at the time. I should probably go back, but I ****ed up and did not send a trade that I agreed to when I stopped. I had thought all my trades were complete, but apparently not and I left some people hanging. They got their points back and the owner was really polite about it even though I had clearly dropped the ball, but I kinda would feel like a total asshat to slink back.
It is a great site and I am eager to see what is done with the kickstarter revenue.
Dude no worries at all! We all make mistakes. Feel free to trade with us over there any time. Something tells me no one will mind
The site just got a revamp so I figured this deserves a bump. If you've left then come back and give it another go. You can now view cards that people want and have the points to afford them. Makes it a lot easier to send out cards to earn points.
Never checked this out so far, but it seems really interesting
Some questions though:
1) About the points, what are they equal to? Are big cards like duals, fetches power 9 and the likes overvalued and bulk undervalued? Are they estimated from a store's prices?
For example, there's no point in trading bulk for 12 cents, since i can do that with SCG too.
2) Ok so i make a have-list, and send out some cards. Perfectly safe and fine. Is tracking mandatory? If not, the receiving member might just keep my playset of Dark Confidants, open a case and get his trading points back. Free playset of Bobs for him, minus a playset of Bobs for me, with no trouble.
Even with tracking used, getting a picture of giant growths instead of bobs might get a case opened. Who do the admins side with then??? Who keeps me safe?
Or what if the receiving member simply doesn't care to mark as arrived? He loses nothing since he got his cards, i just get no points.
3) I send my cards, get my points, no problem at all. Then i try to buy, but the seller simply dissapeared and doesn't send anything. Then what? Do i have to open a case wait for some weeks with my points on hold until we realise he's just dissapeared?
Thanks in advance for any replies
1. the card values are pulled from an average on magiccards.info (tcgplayer) seems to be pretty fair, you do on occasion score a card that just increased in value before the site adjusts for it. what i do is only list cards that i have which are 1$ or more (100 points) and when i find someone who wants that i will also click on their name after confirming to send it to them and see if there are any other cards on their want list that i have. and click to send them as well in the same envelope to maximize points per mailing. (i got my MM Dark Confidants at about 45$ a pop when they were creeping up to 60$ on SSG)
2. it is a trust system yes. i photograph each card with the envelope before i package and mail it off so i have proof of condition in case something happens. and if it is a card over about 5$ for me i dont use a stamp i carry it to post office and pay a little more to send it with a tracking # with having that if something happens. i am assured to get my point value for the cards no matter if they are lost or if the person just runs with them.
i have had 3 cards in the past year that were sent to me that never arrived, i filed a case after 2 weeks and on one of them they finally showed up (from australia) before the case was resolved so i canceled it. the other never showed up so after they got a response from the shipper back. they refunded my points. if he was able to provide proof of shipping to them then they would have still given him points credit for the cards he mailed out. and they just asked me to let them know if they did arrive and provide a photo of the stamp with date from the post office if they did.
3. you have a want list ... that when you have enough points to spend on those cards, they will become visible to others who have the card to send out. first one of them to click on it gets it. the points will be put in a pending status. after they mail the card they go back and click on shipped to send you a notice that it has actually been shipped. when you receive it you confirm condition and click on received. at that time the points are transferred to the other person. on occasion a card will sit on your list for a while if you have the points and people do not send. it happens when it is a rarer card or a little used card (i have three FTV kird apes that have been on my want list for a while now) so if someone says they mailed it and you never get it ... after 2 weeks you file a ticket ... they contact the shipped .. if the person is MIA after a certain time they refund the points back to you and add the card back to your want list.
They just updated the site and added a ton of features, better card pricing, better interface and it seems like they're going to be adding a lot more soon as well.
Although I've been a bit more picky about trading cards because of what postage costs etc. I'm getting more and more into this site as it seems like it is really becoming a great way to make use of those cards you never thought would be worth anything or useful for ever again.

I've been busy with the new site and it has some big improvements. You can now browse a list of cards people want and can afford, so it is much easier to get points as long as you are willing to part with some cards.
Sending away excess Hedron Crabs at $2 to buy Anger of the Gods is a great deal.
Here's a screenshot of my Active Trades page. I've got some good stuff coming in soon!
I've finally gotten my feet wet with PucaTrade, and had a few bumpy experiences with it, so I wanted to share my experiences with others before they jump in with PucaTrade.
When I traded here, out of almost 40 trades, there was only *one* trade where the cards were not in the stated condition, and I got some freebies for my trouble. I never once had to file a BTR. The traders here were excellent at grading cards, and sending on time.
My biggest gripe about PucaTrade is that, despite the fact that you can only list Near Mint cards, people seem to be absolutely atrocious at grading cards, even with the card-grading page as an example. People seem to see, "Wow, someone actually wants this card, and I can get points for it? Let's just throw this in an envelope and make some points!" Maybe I've just had a rash of bad luck, but here are some stellar examples:
Received a Serra's Sanctum in moderately played condition; when I filed a report, the user didn't even dispute that fact. Furthermore, the card was sent in a top loader with no tape, and another card in the same envelope fell out of the toploader and got creased as a result. The entire trade was sent in a plain white envelope. Who sends $35+ cards in a plain white envelope?
Received an Intuition three weeks after the trade was initiated, also in moderately played condition, also in a plain white envelope, so we couldn't track what was taking so long. Even though it was sent in a plain white envelope, I had to send it back with tracking, losing $3 on the deal. Wasted my time and my money.
Received a NM- Academy Rector, that was covered in grime. No scuffing, no border wear, just a ton of dirt on it. At least I was able to clean it off, but still - ew.
Received a Geist of St. Traft -- finally, a card actually in Near Mint condition! It was, however, also only sent in a plain white envelope, in a toploader with no tape; miraculously, the card didn't slip out.
Received a Rishadan Airship for my pauper cube -- it was just tossed in an envelope, no toploader, sleeve or anything. I get it, it was a 15 point card, but who spends 70 cents in postage on a 15 point card, and then doesn't protect the card in any fashion?
Received a Flickerwisp with multiple severe fingernail dents in the card face; that's one of my biggest turn-offs for a card, but since I got it using the free points I got for signing up, I just wrote it off as "oh well". It wasn't worth sending back, and I wasn't aware you could get partial points refunded at the time.
Since you can only block users, or file administrative complaints, there's no real way to rate users or transactions, or protect yourself from problem senders until after you've had a bad experience with them.
On Magic Salvation, people seemed to take trading very seriously; the infractions for a bad trade were pretty severe. Out of 20 trades on PucaTrade, at least 6 trades had problems, three of which required moderator intervention.
Sometimes I get the feeling that people just use PucaTrade as a dumping ground for their junk binders, regardless of condition, hoping that the recipient doesn't complain or doesn't care. I've got almost enough points saved up for a Maze of Ith, but considering it's from a really old expansion, I'm not holding out much hope that the card I eventually receive will be in good condition.
I really appreciate what the creators of the site are trying to do; it's nice to be able to just send off cards and earn credit, and then receive cards as you receive points. And yes, I've had some good trades, but after the last two administrator interventions, I'm starting to lose faith in the community. Just keep that in mind before you dive in.
Idea! Each user can specify a certain point threshold, and if someone tries to send them a card that is worth more than that point threshold, the sender has to send the recipient pictures of the card, both front and back, for the recipient to approve before it is sent. If this feature were available, I would have rejected a lot of my problem trades outright before they ever started.

Huh...I have had none of those happen in the last two years. I do think that Puca should established some kind of standard for shipping, but other than that it has never been an issue. I put cards in a sleeve of some kind (sometimes penny, sometimes a spare) and in a toploader or protected by cardboard (for 4 or more cheaper cards). I have pre-cut strips of paper that I tape over the top of the toploader on which I write the name of the card, the trade #, and my name then I put them in a PWE and a $.70 stamp and write "not machinable" on the envelope face and pop it in the post. I occasionally use bubble mailers for more expensive cards or shipping to another country, but I find that it is overkill and costly to do more often.
Recently signed up with them a week ago, and have received a handful of cards without any issues. It's pretty useful if you're looking for the odd/janky rare, or playsets of commons and uncommons. ALso you can finally do something with your unplayables that collect dust. They also give you a a number of points when you sign up for free, so if you have a vast collection you probably don't need to pour any more money into it (aside from postage.)
I recently started using, was able to unload several foils (which I can take or leave, but many people highly value), and have received back Damnation, Ali From Cairo and a Wasteland so I feel well worth it. I would say try it and unload some smaller items that you would not be able to trade otherwise (you would be surprised what people want). If you don't like it, easy to back out as long as you don't have trades hanging out.
There is a longer discussion on Pucatrade down in the Marketplace forum main page here at MTGS. Between that thread and this I have finally signed up...
Now to build my have/want lists and start sending!
I make all my decks using Puca Trade. I've only been successfully scammed once, possibly attempted one to two other times but a great deal of the time my Puca Trade experience has been pretty positive. One thing I do recommend is for anyone new that you insure packages over 5,000 points (equivalent to $50) because there's a loophole that can get you scammed otherwise. Also make sure you let the people you're sending to know the condition of the card before you send so everything flows nice and smoothly.
Puca was ok at first. I've been on there almost a year and the last couple months never get on there. Takes month's to get cards you want for a deck, and 1/3 of the time they are damaged. You'll never be able to get your money back or cash out.
Took over 6 months to get fetch lands from khans cause of all the bots and stores. And puca supports bots which is horrible if you're trying to get cards in a timely manner.
Using other sites to sell/trade cards has been a lot better experience. Might take a few more minutes but you'll save more and make more. I get my cards within a week compared to waiting forever to get popular cards. Real money means a lot more to me than puca points.
I would stay away if I were you. I'll never go back to puca.
I have received over 500 cards over the last 3 years via Puca Trade, and only 2 were not NM. If you need to get cards relatively quickly or within a defined period of time then a casual trading site is not a good idea. Puca is great for cards that you are more casually acquiring. At the beginning of each new set I put up a list of the cards I want and the list is usually filled as fast as I can keep a balance. There are cards that do not get filled as frequently- I find that people don't trade Modern lands very frequently now that they are proving to be such a good long term card.
Same here, Dr. Worm - I find your success on Puca depends pretty much on what you're trying to achieve with it.
If you're expecting to be able to complete janky casual decks / collect common and uncommon playsets / easily acquire some of the lower tier new cards, Puca rocks.
If you're expecting to patiently trade up / acquire some staples over time, Puca rocks.
If you're expecting it to be a constant flood of Standard / Modern / Legacy staples in your mailbox on a daily basis, Puca is not for you. The laws of supply and demand mean that it's better to buy from a shop if you need your expensive staple in a hurry, rather than relying on the whims of the Puca folk.
-Took me over 6 months to get 5 cards ($30 or more) for my G/R tron deck.
-Use fake points instead of real money? Took me awhile to not be lazy and find better sites out there while getting cash and saving money.
-Puca was $10 or more than star city games for Karn and Emrakul at the time I wanted.
-Puca supports bots being used, which makes getting cards a lot harder. I tried to get a play set of khans fetch lands and looked at the other people wanting the card. Multiple people had more than 10 wants for each land. Took me forever to get all of them and even had to offer more points just so I could get them.
- If and when puca gets shut down, your out of everything. Can't cash out nothing. Bye Bye to everything.
-It cost over 50 cents to send card/s to someone. The difference nearly cost me the same just selling at card shops for CASH.
-Plenty of better sites out there to find deals. I got a Karn for $38 off Ebay making offer and an Emrakul for $17.50. Did this with many other cards as well.
-Puca is for collectors/stores/bots. If you want to build a deck... GOOD LUCK. Hope your patient.
-Have to pay extra per month to get foils.
-Lot of times people were sending me cards and I never got them. After a month the cards I wanted shot up in price to where I didn't want them anymore. THANKS PUCA
-Puca only says N/NM only yet I received plenty of cards LP or lower and took puca forever to respond and some of the times I was ***** OUT OF LUCK
Plenty more reasons why not to join puca (I was lazy & not experienced in trading at the time) but I wont waste anymore time.
