Of course, they do! They know how to rip poor MTGO users off
I mean, besides that... As you all know the great day is looming, the one which will set a new landmark in Magic history and detirmine our destiny for at least 3-4 months. I am talking about BnR list announcement. I wish i had other things to do but i have to follow closely all latest news and info surges for i been doomed investing in cards and expecting to gain some profits (and then live in prosperity, obviously). Anyway, i have been watching some bots prices (well not some, but many) on certain cards i am interested in and i noticed that bots do really strange things: for instance Ancestral Vision. This is by far the most plausible candidate for unbanning according to the most modern community opinion polls (at least thats what i derived from reading numerous posts and topic threads), but it looks to me that bots either dont care about speculations or they know something that i dont know. I understand that most of bot chains are built in such way that they just care about demand and supply rates and make a small profit by "buying a bit cheaper and selling a bit higher", but the market is not only a reacting entity, it also could be proactive very easily. For instance bots set high prices for cards immediately after the results of a big event are promulgated (or tarmogoyf is announced to be in the next MMA set :)). The problem with AV is that bots started to decrease the price for this card about 3 or 4 days ago. This could be stipulated by diminishing demand but usually bots dont do this before big announcements and that fact is perplexing. Could the bot owners got the inside info about future bans/unbans and what is the chance of being so? I am ok with those guys who know THE INFO and hit below the belt, nothing wrong with it at all, i just want to be on the right side Thx beforehand and good investments to all!
You don't see SCG, CFB et raising their buy list prices on speculations, only when the market reacts (Bitterblossom comes to mind). When the speculation takes place over a period and there are a lot of players in the game the buy prices will go up, but on a card like AV that sees 0 legacy play, and is likely worse than cruise in modern they aren't going to jump.
This is just business.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I just wanted to add here that most large chains use some automated pricing mechanism which changes prices based on demand and supply. Demand and supply of course are not created equal for all cards, since standard legal cards naturally will have higher volume, and so on. These algorithms won't care about speculation - but the level of speculation in the market can affect the prices at times. Thus, the shift (temporary or not) in supply (people unloading tons of copies of a card, and then being unable to sell that card to bots which are all full) or in demand (people buy out a large chunk of "available" cards on bots and people also wishing to speculate become willing to pay more) from larger specs can affect the prices, depending on how the algorithms work.
Many smaller bots set their own prices manually, and therefore may engage in the things you are suggesting (raising or lowering prices on certain cards for speccing purposes).
