I have a playset of goyfs that I've had since they were standard-legal. I've noticed on wikiprice that they've gone up a bit in the past 10 days and I'm not quite sure why. Jund's popularity has obviously fallen off since the DRS ban and Zoo isn't looking like the new king of the neighborhood that a lot of people were expecting. I'm also a little worried about a reprint in MM2...I know the first reprint didn't have much of an effect long-term but, if it gets reprinted again, there has to be a saturation point where the demand just can't justify the near $100 price tag. I'm not using them in any of my preferred decks at the moment. Do you guys think it has peaked or are they worth holding onto longer for investment value?
RUG twin plays 4 goyfs, and jund is making a come back.
You could wait till modern ptq season in the summer to sell them. Though that is a bit dicey since there might not even be ptqs on mtgo for a while.
It's hard to figure out if/when it'll get reprinted, goyf could be in vintage masters for all we know.
If you need the tickets, you might as well sell them, because 1) you're not using them 2) goyf's price is at an all time high, you can't fault someone for selling at a peak
Like Rickster said, Goyf is still a tier-1 all-star in RUG Twins, and it's not like Jund and Zoo are non-existent decks, they're just not "the deck to beat" like Jund was for a few months there. Note that despite the meta shifts, Tarmogoyf is at an all-time high.
MM2 hasn't even been announced and the earliest it would be out is probably Summer 2015 and remember that the first reprint *did* have an effect on the long-term price: it went *up.* So, even if does get reprinted soon (again, like Rickster said, for MODO purposes, that's more likely to happen in Vintage Masters this summer), if it's a mythic and/or the set is underopened (which I think is going to happen with Vintage Masters, but that's another conversation), then the price will probably not move much.
So, basically, I think this is a roundabout way of saying its price seems stable and that the threat of a reprint overwhelming its current demand equilibrium to drive the price significantly down is small.
I would be very hesitant to try to sell and rebuy later. If you don't need them, by all means go for it, but if you think you're going to need them soon, I'd hang on.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Tarmo was laying beats in Legacy (SCG) so yeah, I don't think you should sell it if you're a 'player'. I'm actually wanting to pick up another set 'just because'.
Dark confidant is supposed to be a similar powerhouse but he is def. not getting as much play. Snapcaster is the only other 2 caster that gets more play, but he doesn't close out games like Tarmo.
Also, I hate green creatures But for Tarmo, I make an exception. He's a made man.
What cardfather said is probably the best advice. Personally, I don't think Vintage Masters will have tarmy, but I do think it'll see a reprint in something by summer 2015. It might even be in conspiracy (which would then actually likely imply that it would be in Vintage Masters since conspiracy isn't going to MTGO)
Well Goyf's dropped ten tickets or so over the last week. I'm still holding for now, but I'm not certain if that is the right call.
The problem is will there be a Modern season. Wishing I had sold all my Scalding Tarns now. We have until June-Aug for them to fix the stability issues, plus who knows maybe they will extend the season. Have to wait until the end of April to get the update.

It is interesting that the price of the big modern cards probably hangs in the balance of that April announcement. If you have faith in MTGO, buy modern cards! If not, sell now before it is too late!
Unless we're vastly overestimating the importance of the online PTQs for modern...
I think the modern ptq season will let cards hit new highs. But if there is no ptq season, i don't think card price will plummet. They might dip during the initial reaction, but I think they rebound and stay at current rate.
If you look at standard prices this season, the cards dropped when they took out daily events, but they rebounded when they came back. And there was no standard ptq season and there were mythics that cost 25+ tickets.
It would be interesting to see if someone could compare the prices of this standard season to last standard season. But you'd have to account for the redemption tax and mtgo's growth.
What's more important is when they're going to make people switch to V4.
I doubt that Modern prices will crash without a broader crash involving paper magic. During the daily event void Modern and Legacy cards held fine, I imagine the case would be the same if PTQs don't come back into for the modern PTQ season
I'm inclined to agree -- Modern's popularity has remained very steady on MODO, and I would think that even without on-line PTQs, the upsurge in interest from IRL PTQs will cause MODO demand to increase some.

I think that's true long term, but the short term crash could be a thing. When daily events were suspended, Misty Rainforest went from 23 to 17, and a lot of other Modern cards had similar drops. Took a couple of months for it to recover completely (and daily events were re-announced in that time).

That is somewhat selective though. Scalding Tarn recovered and went higher in less than a month. Cryptic Commandgained in the first few days, only dropped significantly for a few days nearly a month later and then climbed much higher. LotV stayed the same at the announcement, dropped 2 weeks later, was back up 3 weeks later. Point being, the market took a hit in some places, but it seems more likely that is was just normal fluctuations rather than some significant trend across the board.

It's pretty amazing that he's slotted into basically a U/R deck, he's just that powerful.
