A buyout is underway for Collected Company. The card has risen only $1 for now, but the sellers are drying up on TCGPlayer and almost completely gone from Amazon.

It is a fantastic card - I bought 2 extra after playing it in Modern for 2 weeks. But it is hard to sustain a $10 price for a rare, even something good like Siege Rhino. Unless this is Thragtusk or Goblin Rabblemaster level, it is coming down. This is no Thoughtseize or Snapcaster Mage or a fetchland. The constraints it places on deckbuilding are rather extraordinary.

No need to tell me haha, I was one of the few people hyped about this card in Modern when it was first spoiled. I totally agree with you here though, it really is a build around me card. It will really require to spawn its own archetype like Birthing Pod did to retain its price. The only takeaway I can offer is that Dragons of Tarkir will not be drafted as much very soon with MM2 right around the corner. Khans of Tarkir was opened heavily and none of the rares (apart from fetches) are worth that much even Siege Rhino.

This right here. Everyone is saving for MM2, Origins is right around the corner, and DTK packs will likely end up being the least drafted in the block (Khans 5, Fate 2, Dragons 2).
To the post above that -- well, Thoughtseize is $20 and Snapcaster was $20 during its time in standard, so no, it doesn't have to be as powerful as that to hold a $9 price tag. Is it as good as Rabblemaster or Thragtusk? How many copies of Rabblemaster have been in the top 8 of the last 2 GP's?
I think one of the things that is great about collected company is the fact that we have 5 more sets of CMC 3 cards coming out that it can use before it is out of standard. That and it fits well with the Den Protector / Deathmist pair, and will exist alongside them for the next 17 months or so.
Latest median value for a box on mtg stocks is $127. I managed to snag a box on ebay for $87.77 shipped and pulled $135 in value between half the rares.
Money pulls were:
1x Deathmist Raptor
1x Narset Transcendent
1x Dragonlord Dromoka
1x Dragonlord Dromoka
1x Collected Company
1x Den Protector
1x Surrak, the Huntcaller
1x Thunderbreak Regent
1x Shaman of the Forgotten Ways
1x Icefall Regent
Okay, Update time. This update I am looking primarily at ebay NM playsets and then dividing that by 4 to get the individual values, once again at the lower end of the buy it now range in addition to cross checking with the lower end of the range for NM prices on tcgplayer. Value changes from last update will he shown in ( ) after the prices.
Total set value:
Mythics: $124 (-$15)
Rares: $64 (+$4)
Uncommon/Common set: $8 (-$2)
Total singles set value: $196 (-$13)
Overall Average box value:
Mythics: $124/15 = $8.27/mythic x 4.5 mythics/box = $37 (-$5)
Rares: $64/53 = $1.21 x 31.5 rares/box = $38 (+$3)
Uncommon/Common set: $8 x 1.3 sets = $10 (-$3)
Foils: $6 (-)
Overall average box value: $91 (-$5)
Looks like we had a few interesting movements, both ups and downs for the mythics, and a couple of decent sized increases in the rares (likely from continued tournament exposure increasing demand significantly). Overall the mythics took a sizeable hit, while the rares actually managed a gain, thanks in large part to decent sized gains in collected company and den protector. Overall box value ended up down another $5 to the current $91/box we see now, which, relatively speaking, is still fairly decent, though fairly in-line I think with what the boxes tend to go for these days. So a reasonable box to buy, if not one you'll neccesarily make much money on. Plus with the top-heavy nature of the set, individual box values are likely to vary a good bit, so something else to keep in mind.
Anyhow, I don't know when I will have time to do another update, but as soon as I can, I will. I hope you all enjoy this update and find it informative :).
Starting on Monday, the Tally Threads will be an article on the Front Page. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to ask here, PM me directly, or post on my Helpdesk.
Sorry to be dense, but can you provide a link? I can't seem to find them.
Thanks.
