So, what's going on with siege rhino? Bought out everywhere. Seriously, has this ever happened before? Cards just keep going up after the release? Is there usually this much hype? Surely the bubble has to burst with all the boxes out in circulation.

Three examples come to mind (I'm sure there are more). Restoration Angel started at $4, it was $10 in a week. Bonfire started at ~$20 and was $50 real soon. Finally, DRS started out as a $5 rare and jumped to $10-15 pretty fast.
Siege rhino is sort of an obvious one. It's power was quite evident when it was spoiled, though I think it's more that people are realizing that out of the new options, the rhino is one of the better places to be (mantis rider is another one that was obvious and is also pulling its weight).
I think the most prominent example is thragtusk. It was what, $2 on release, and topped out at $25 once it was jammed into every green event deck precon. That sort of thing is highly unlikely to happen to a 3 colored card in a massively opened set though.

I think it's interesting to see people pay these huge prices for cards only to have them rotate out and lose 85% of their value (in most cases). Standard seems like such a crapshoot for value-minded players.

You think it's interesting that people are willing to pay money to have fun?

You're missing the point here though. They spend big prices because they want to win big prizes. If you drop $400 on a standard deck, you are expecting to
1.) Have fun for the next 18 months
2.) Win lots of prizes.
It's not like they are expecting to spend money on the cards, have them do nothing, then sell them at 15% of what they paid for them.
I think it's interesting that saying "find/think it interesting" has become such a commonplace passive-aggressive insult.
I think you need to go back to psychology class because my statement wasn't meant to insult anyone, it was simply an observation on a market trend that has been around forever.

Something to keep in mind is that SCG has altered their pricing strategies as of M15. They start (almost) all cards low, and raise the prices based on demand. This results in exactly the effect you're seeing - prices go up AFTER the set releases because people see the cards being played and winning events, which increases demand.
In the long-term, the prices of the whole set will settle, but especially this early, with the supply still being fairly limited, you're going to see a lot of cards moving from the $1-2 range up to the $4-6 range.

This isn't Psych 101, it's Standard Huge Gainers! Please keep the dialogue to cards and let's not engage in discussions which lead to inflammatory remarks. - SBC
There's a supply crunch on this set, similar to Innistrad. Prices keep jumping because we haven't hit the second/third product wave to meet demand.
What there isn't, though, is another wave of M15, which I think is contributing to this. I've heard that V4 being out out the same time curtailed drafting and redeeming, so there's less of it from online sources, plus less drafted in paper because KTK was released earlier.
I think that's why even uncommons like Stoke are up to $4 while in-print, and same with Rabblemaster - both are generically good cards, on already stressed supply, same with Painlands.

If you sell them around 6 months before rotation (get to have fun with it for a good 18 months), it's possible to make profit from it. If you've been playing theros when it first came out, you'd have picked sylvan caryatids and polukranos, world eater for around 6$ each, now they're worth 15, and you got to play with them for a year already. Sounds like a great deal for smart value-minded players.
This card will be the worst rare in RTR and less remembered than skaab ruibator in three months. It struggles to be on the same power level as mass of ghouls, even in limited.
That its not simply "not good enough for competitive", or underpowered. But that this is offensively bad, the real stinker tier.
Still, my best evaluation is that its approximately on the same power level as a 4/4 for 4 vanilla beater.
I thought it was odd, but checked SCG and Channel Fireball and found them out of stock there too. Now I wonder whether I was looking at the wrong version there too.

Sylvan Caryatid keeps on going up, it's over taken courser of kruphix now.
I traded away 2 for 2 shocks about a week ago, where will it stop?
The only reason that Courser is as low as it currently is is because it was in the M15 Clash Pack. Prices would be $20+ otherwise.
And I believe Caryatid is seeing a spike because it is a 4-of in the Jeskai Ascendancy Modern deck that just hit the scene. The foils are marginally more than the non-foil versions, which I expect to change soon unless it becomes apparent that Jeskai Ascendancy will become banned in Modern (not out of the question).

The estimated value is still too low to consistently make a profit by cracking boxes.
That said M15 has the highest EV of Standard Sets outside of KTK. I presume KTK will drop below M15 in a couple weeks.
Note that M14 also had a good EV while in Standard. Now you can count the cards > $5 on one hand. M14 EV is now worse than Conspiracy :\.
I think M14 actually has more to offer outside of Standard than M15.

The 2nd wave is in stock and is just waiting to be distributed this Friday.
That said I think prices for a few cards will not be settling any time soon. The demand for Sorin and Sarkhan is huge.
Fetchlands should all be very close to $10 within weeks.
