I'm cautiously optimistic about Phyrexian Obliterator. Here's what's working against him:
1) Unlike Bob, Goyf, Mutavault, and others, he's not a multi-format staple. This card is only played in Modern and maybe a bit in Commander.
2) He's not splashable- actually, he's the antithesis of splashable, with his BBBB mana cost being one of the toughest costs to pay in all of Modern.
3) Big black undercosted beaters are one of R&D’s favorite card types: there’s one in Journey into Nyx and while I don’t see it replacing him, there will be more in future sets and one will eventually be better than him due to power creep. Expect the price to plummet when this happens
Otherwise, all of the factors listed in other posts make him an attractive candidate.

[quote from="SirBruce" url="http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/market-street/market-street-cafe/388350-modern-huge-gainers?comment=5041"]Updates on some of my April 1st predictions:
No change in Bitterblossom; Gifts Ungiven finally saw a slight bump from $5.75 to $5.95 but it could just be a temporary fluctuation; it still looks flat.
There is no point to reporting "no change" in one card, and a 20 cent gain in another card in a thread devoted to Huge Gainers.
SirBruce, I feel like you're not quite getting the point of these other people's posts, this thread is for modern "Huge" gainers. A few cents here or there isn't really a "Huge" gainer.
Now, if suddenly, out of nowhere TIB jumps from $3 to $10, then we have something to talk about. Trickbind recently ticked up from $1 to $3-4, and we really weren't talking about it much. A few cents shouldn't be post-worthy is what I'm saying.
Kangaroo (Amulet of Vigor Combo) isn't a deck that is widely played, all the price increases for the deck seemed to have happened already (Primeval Titan, Gemstone Mine, Amulet of Vigor) for the core of the deck, You don't even really NEED Tendo-Ice-Bridge for the deck to win with it. Trust me, I've played a deck with just 4 gemstone mines, and won a lot with it, but post sideboard it's an uphill battle to win...
It just doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment to follow. If you can get them at $1 or bulk rates, hurray!
There's no market force to justify this card's price to increase further. If it suddenly became the Tier 1 deck to beat in modern (doubtful) then more power to you, but I don't see that happening since the deck is easy to stop post sideboard.
Not trying to be rude, just stating facts.

I don't see it. I've seen and played against monoBlack and G/B decks and while they are good, they fold to a lot of the tier 1 decks floating around. The problems with Obliterator are many
1) Fairly hard to hard-cast since you need all black
2) 4 CMC means "game winner" in Modern and this isn't it. If the other player is ahead, they can evade around this guy or let you attack and then counterattack for the win.
3) Pathetically dies to Dismember and Path to Exile
4) Does not dovetail nicely with the tempo/control plan. It's not an efficient beater and it's designed to punish other creature decks...which will Path/Dismember/Beast Within this thing instantly. Or fly over it.
Does that mean it won't increase in value? No, but it won't be Modern driving it. Obliterator is a casual players wet dream.

And I don't think you're getting it. People in this thread expressed interest in knowing cards that look like thery are about to jump, not after the fact where they "miss out" if they're on the buy side. Many of the cards that jump several dollars "out of nowhere" started by jumping "a few cents" week after week. Just look at the charts; you'll find many "hockey stick" cards.

Well, contrary to your opinion, TIB, Gemstone Mine, etc. have continued to climb recently, so something is driving that.

I think it's really just that we want that information from a credible source or information that doesn't feel like hype. By repeatedly posting about your predictions it's starting to look like you have something at stake beyond simple forum chatter - it feels disingenuous and self serving. Crap like "will you admit you were wrong?" makes you look like you might actually care about proving people wrong. That, in and of itself, is hilarious and is why people here don't take you seriously.

Do you guys think that Leyline of Sanctity still has room to grow? Could get my hand on a second playset for 40$ (Cnd) and want to know if it can be a good spec target?
Anyone has some insight on this?

"De potentia juvenis somniabat, nunc de Mundo somniat..."
It is mainly a sideboard card (less demand) and with only 1 printing. I do not think this is a card to spec because it could easily be reprinted in the near future.
Do you think that I could easily turn the playset around for 80$USD?
They are 18.99 mid in TCGplayer so not likely. I think with the majority around 15-17 you'd be lucky to get more than 60-65. While they could go up a little more (they are ridiculous against some decks) they could just as easily crash with a reprint like with Leyline of the Void.
i buylisted my leylines recently for $12 after having them sit in my binder for months/years (no one was even interested in trading for it). i think the market demand just isn't there, and I also think they're a pretty easy reprint target.

Can you clarify if this thread is only for reporting cards AFTER they've had huge gains, or if discussion/speculation about cards which may have huge gains is acceptable? The latter occurs here frequently, so I want to make sure everyone is on the same page. I think it would be a much less useful thread if it was just the former; might as well just have one post linked to mtgstocks.

Really? $12
That seems better than what i'd expect by alot. I thought they would pretty much drop to 5-7 after jund got banned out and cards got printed to hate out storm.

Interesting. Where I'm at, a lot of people keep asking around for Leylines of Sanctity.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
Pack foil Emrakul at $250 on SCG, with only one in stock
Pretty crazy.
On a related note, I'm curious as to when nonfoil Emrakul will hit its ceiling and to a lesser extent Kozilek and Ulamog as well. Will they really keep steadily climbing past where they are now? I was almost certain they couldn't get much higher than $50, but seeing as Emrakul is now at $60 on SCG, maybe I'm wrong. Of course other formats are driving demand for them as well, but I figured I'd bring it up here given the mentioning of Emrakul.

Honestly, assuming they don't get reprinted I could see these guys eventually hitting triple digits. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but seeing as there isn't really anything out there like them, it would be good to snag some while they're still "cheap".
I have to wonder if the other eldrazi foils will start to climb to Emrakul prices. They're used extensively in EDH, so it's only natural for them to climb up exponentially over time.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

So in terms of casting Phyrexian Obliterator if you don't get the Urborg you still have the option to tap for black.
