As said with the super high priced cards, they aren't needed.
They aren't needed now. But I remember when Lands was one of the best decks in the format. I remember when High Tide dominated. Legacy is a very dynamic format, and it is very conceivable that any of the cards I listed or some other esoteric card like In the Eye of Chaos or Eureka suddenly could take the format by storm.
Legacy cannot escape this structural problem. The run on Scavenging Ooze or Baleful Strix could not compare to everyone suddenly piling into to a card like Diamond Valley or even Sinkhole. The limited availablility of Alpha through Dark creates many more hazards than what Planechase or Commander ever could. And Legacy is diverse enough, popular enough that something like what we saw with Tabernacle and Candelabra will almost certainly happen again. Sheesh, look at what happened with Scroll Rack and it's not even played!
Getting a playset of Strixes is not nearly as hard or costly as a playset of Underground Seas. Getting 4 Oozes won't cost you as much as four Polluted Deltas. These summer sets are not the problem.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.
The price of the duals is going to kill Legacy long before anything else does. The Delta cycle is likely to be reprinted w/in 5 years, simply for Modern's sake.
In summation.....Star Trek wins a prolonged naval battle against superior, yet less technologically advanced, numbers, with Picard leading the assault, while Kirk takes your soul by laying out Solo and probably his manservant Chewy as well, before impregnating and ditching your Princess.
It went up 60-70, it was already worth 130-140 (can't remeber exactly which) on SCG

Look at my name...what did you expect?
Thank you WOTC for introducing the Modern format, a format where all the whiners can enjoy a level playing field and where they can play with none of the best cards of all time!
Entreat is just stupidly priced right now, it's hard to believe it doubled in like 10 days
Yeah, I picked my entreats up at $11 just a month ago. It started out at $20 at pre-release, and that was in a format with Ponder. I can't believe it's gone so high.
So apparently (from some sources, but I don't think there's official confirmation on this) SCG bought up all the copies on MKM re: the Abyss. That seems totally legitimate and not at all like manipulating the market, if that's what ended up happening.
The card isn't the greatest, and doesn't need to go up like this. It's sad to see when it does happen.

We did buy "all the copies of The Abyss" from MKM, which amounted to less than 10 copies, after people cancelled orders because "they had sold their Abysses long ago but never updated their MKM listings." We're selling through The Abyss at fast enough a rate that we need this stock in order to supply our players at our Open Series events; literally a supply/demand issue here.

Well I'm glad you guys are in the business of promoting/supporting Legacy. WotC has dumped us for modern.
The card in question is on the reserved list and there are no substitutes. I'm not surprised people are paying this much for it.
Luckily, no deck needs any of the cards like abyss, moat, candleabra, tabernacle. The optimal version runs them (arguably optimal anyways) but there are other options that are nearly as good.

Sheesh was I prescient. I just mentioned The Abyss sort of off-handedly. This is the very problem I spoke of. As people pile into an older card, the price shoots to astronomical levels and raises the barrier to entry that much further. I'm glad Ben was able to get some for the Open Series. It's enough of a debacle as it is. But this is the sort of problem Legacy faces going forward. Price Memory will keep The Abyss at a high price forever now. It won't go back down.

I think people will always pay top $ for higher-end, English Legends rares. I have never cared for Italian Legends, and I know I'm not the only one. The original cards look amazing and I definitely connect to cards I have always wanted to add to my collection but couldn't for money/available issues.
Back in 1994 I was a teenager and I didn't have much $ to spend on cards, and when I wanted to spend most of the time I could you just couldn't find these cards locally. Now, like most people that played the game in the 1990s, I have a job and don't mind spending on such cards. These are also quite readily available, too, using the channels you all know very well, although this is becoming somewhat of an issue, too. I mean, I'd like some P3K very random rares like Diaochan, but these never show up on eBay and when they do, they go for considerably more than what I thought I'd pay, quite above what I think is reasonable. These cards have virtually disappeared, with 0 copies on TCGplayer and a copy per 2 months listing on eBay. Clearly this pushes prices up. I thought 80$ was quite fair (albeit a bit high) last week when I tried snatching that P3K rare. Didn't try hard enough.
I'm not truly upset that you guys did buy all the Abysses, at least not as much as I was initially. I know you guys have a business to run for sure, it's just initially it seemed like a bit of a cash grab/stranglehold of the market supply. I know you guys probably do sell an amount of them, but you realize by increasing your prices on them (due to demand) and you guys buying up most of the available supply (at least on MKM), it's creating a jump for all the Abysses not only you have in stock, but the Abysses that you'll be getting and because you're a large retailer, other copies of the Abyss.
I'm not upset at SCG, since again, you guys do great work promoting Legacy and your customer service is fantastic, I just hate the fact that cards prices rise so quickly just because you guys need more stock. You know what I mean? It's just really frustrating that this gets out of control like this basically due to speculation that you guys are buying them up to horde them, even if that's not even the case.
Sorry if this came across as inflammatory or derogatory. It wasn't intended directly at you guys, just the market in general.
