Exploration: $25
Gaea's Cradle: $70
Serra's Sanctum: $20
Show and Tell: $60
Sneak Attack: $45
Time Spiral: $25
Tolarian Academy: $25
Yawgmoth's Will: $15
Drake is already $25. Why is $15 generous for this? It's a solid sideboard card and sees as much or more play than many of the cards on this list.
- It's a situational, reactionary, creature-speed sideboard card
- The last few lots on eBay have gone for about $15-18. Where are you getting $25?
- Doubled in price over the past 6 months, i.e. you already missed the gravy train
And your prices are all inflated. Are those SCG prices? I just can't take that seriously.
I think it might. From a casual perspective, it's a cool card that does an interesting thing. Obviously, it seems like it would have gotten all the boost it would have gotten from casual players, but if it sees more Legacy play, more casual players will see it and want it.
I think it will go to $25, but wouldn't be surprised if it got to $30.
Not sure if its a Legacy it EDH staple, but if Ancient Tomb is in FTV, what do you think will happen to its price?
Depends a bit on what else is in Realms, but probably not much. Aether Vial is probably the closest comp in terms of FTV reprints. The decks that want them generally want 4 of them, so putting a few thousand on the market won't really be a huge dent in the value. It's like $8-$9 right now, so I could see it dropping to ~$5 and then ticking back up to the $8 range in a year or two. (This assumes that it isn't being reprinted with super-sweet new art.)
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
Temporal Mastery is at a good low right now. Does anyone think this is a good buying point? Or, is this just a dud going no where in Legacy?
Not really, let it go lower if you'd like to pick a bunch up. Unless something happens in RTR that makes this card especially more viable $10 is a lot for a so-so build-around. It's not even played in miracle control right now, I would bet that the reason it's still $10 is that a) it was a $40 presale card only a few months ago an b) there are a lot of people out there like you who understand it's potential power level and anticipate the breaking, so to speak.
A standard RUG Wolf Run runs a playset and got 1st place. However, it takes advantage of being most of R/G Wolf Run tools with Bonfire/Temporal set up by Ponders.
Are there any reasons why this card failed to shine (in Legacy)?
I remember all the hype around it, that it would be overpowered and either it or Brainstorm will be banned and so on.
And now it's not even played in a dedicated Miracle deck.
Why?
I don't play very much anymore, so I would be interested in a run down on why it isn't as good as it seems as well.
Is it just a win more card? As in every time it is played usefully you are going to win anyway?

your going to have to put in some work to abuse miracles (jace, brainstorm, sensei's divining top) and for two mana you maybe not even significantly impact the board. entreat is a win condition and terminus is a one mana wrath of god which can be done at instant speed.
I'm going to bring this up again but what do you guys think about Cavern of Souls? Currently it has around a $20 price tag. I don't think it will be widely played in Legacy but it will definitely be a staple of sorts. I think it will find its niche like Rishadan Port. I currently picked up a full set. 2 For $10. 1 From trading a bunch of lower tag standard cards that don't hold value outside of standard. 1 From trading my friend after we pack warred (He wanted to pack war with ante [winner keeps 1 card from the other's pack] but I declined.) After I won, I traded him a couple burning wishes in exchange for the Cavern and as well as promise from him to go to SCG open with me XP.
Wizards will probably continue to push creatures to be more widely played and I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing stronger tribal archetypes (Standard has Zombies). I suspect that Cavern will spike when RtR gets spoiled completely. Also with RtR having emphasis on color combinations I wouldn't be surprised if Cavern is still used in Standard for its mana fixing capabilities.

It won't maintain price as well as Port, but will be in a similar class.
Think of how many fewer Ports there are and there is your why.

Badlands just jumped $10 over at SCG; that was enough to make me take it off my wishlist and go to eBay.
Is this just the usual incremental price increase because its a dual land, or is the increase in response to something?
I wouldn't read too much into it. Large stores change buy and sell prices for reasons other than current trends. Badlands has been selling steadily between $35 and $40 in all of 2012 (eBay). About a month ago SCG had dropped it's buy prices for Underground Sea from $100 to $80. They're back up to $100 again, but the selling price has been $150 this whole time. Sometimes stores need to buy more or less of a card and buy prices can affect that. So can selling prices. In theory, if you have 10 apples and have 50 people that want them, it's smarter to sell for more than you have in the past because chances are out of those 50 people, 10 are willing to pay more.
For some reason, it already has risen, at MKM it's up from € 0,80 to € 3,00 for NM English cards, available at a minimum of 4. But it only seems to be affected in some places.
But since the day of the above post, it also has started rising, according to ark42's price history. Are we (this forum, these speculators) responsible for the rise ?
Ill admit that I grabbed a bunch off of tcgplayer about a month (or more?) ago just because they were super cheap at the time and I figured (eh? why not) especially since I was nearly out of them anyway to start with. There were still a ton left there at the time though so I have no idea what is causing the most recent price increase. Looks like tcgplayer is sold out of NM save for some listed at $5 each now. Crazy. Guess we will have to keep an eye on it. If it is just pure speculation then we will see the price begin to decline again shortly back down to about $1 again. If its seeing play in something then it could very well stabilize above that. Ive seen enough crazy spikes in cheap rares solely based upon speculation of late not to get my hopes up.
A few things caught my eye browsing ark42 this morning.
Karakas seems to me moving upwards and has never been higher, in fact. I can definitely understand why though, as it's played in top decks many people enjoy.
Academy Rector has seen quite a bump in the last few weeks, too. EDH-fueled, I take it?

I had the feeling that Karakas was being held back by the possibility it was in Realms. Now that people know it isn't in there, I think it will continue going up.

There's no way it's hitting $25 in the near future. $20 is pushing it, $15 is already fairly generous.
Speaking of Omniscience... anti-Gilded Drake, anti-Karakas. It's pretty much S&T trolling the metagame.

This is what I was referring to when I said that it was being discussed as a $25 card.
Ancient Tomb is an interesting one, the card is like a poor man's City of Traitors. A re-print would hurt the value, maybe bring it back down to $5?

Because it's just Explore in blue a solid 67% of the time. The other 33%, it's either fantastic or sits in your hand doing nothing.
