Someone local has advertised on the phone app, Letgo, the remnants of his old shop (which is now a cobbler's shop).
He told me in a PM that he is trying to liquidate. I would like to know if he is asking too much, and if so (or not), what would be an acceptable counter offer that won't get laughed it.
This is what he has:
9th Ed.: $3/pack
Betrayers of Kamigawa - $5/pack
Future Sight: $15/pack
Ravnica: City of Guilds: $5/pack
Dissension: $5/pack
Planar Chaos: $10/pack
M10: $2/pack
From what I saw, there aren't many packs, maybe a dozen, at most, of each category.
And if the prices look to high, what reasons are there for the price being lowered? If the price is right, why? Hell, if the price is bellow cost, should I jump on them?
I live in Minnesota around the Twin Cities, and there are a few different shops around here that sell older sealed product as part of their operations. All of those prices you listed there are at substantially lower prices than I would have to pay to get them here. I have seen people at these shops pay $18 for a Planar Chaos pack, $29 for a Future Sight pack, and the Kamigawa, Ravnica, and Dissension would all sell in the $15 range.
My opinion might be slightly skewed because I love opening packs, but I would immediately buy all of each set they had at those prices you mentioned. Very nice find, and I am rather jealous. I hope that if you do, you either have some fun drafting or open some nice stuff!
Just remember, box mapping was a real thing when those packs were printed. Make sure you fully trust the seller if you're buying the packs just to open them.

This! Be very careful. If it was sealed boxes that would be one thing but I'd be wary of loose packs.
You should see what boxes go for, divide that by 36 and then the divide the result by half. When dealing with loose packs you have to give such a huge discount for it even to be worth it. Some stores can sell them because it is not crucial to their business and they already have a rapport with clients. For the average joe forget about it.
You need to have the trust of a rather large number of high dollar investors for selling loose packs to be worth it. These people are not easy to come by. You would also have to ask yourself why is this person in such a rush to sell? It just sounds too good to be true.

I'm not sure I can stress this enough with these guys.
buy his 9th and 10th and have your self a good old draft. Particularly the $2 each one. at that price buy em all and have a great time with your friends. If you are buying for value. Well you don't buy packs for value you buy singles. (preferable Reserve list NM ones)

Thanks for the advice!

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
