I haven't played magic in years; the last set I played was M12/Innistrad block. Unfortunately I need to go about selling what I have, and would like information on the best way to do that. I sold individuals here many years ago (but I think all my posts have been archived as I cannot view them), so I thought to come here first.
I have about 2000 or so cards (haven't fully counted, probably closer to 3000) and collected (usually on purpose) many "chase rares" and "chase uncommons" (as they used to call them). I did some price look ups and just out of the top cards (maybe about 100 or 200 of them) they're combined worth is about $700, not including the thousands of other cards, sleeves, deck boxes and binders I have (including pages and pages of random foils.)
Do you have any specific goals? "Get the most money" or "Get some money fast" are the two most common. The more we know about your physical location*, your collection, and your goals (not necessarily your motives or your personal life, unless you want to share), the more helpful we can be.
* = We're not stalkers, I promise. But what's true in El Paso, TX, USA may not apply in Bern, Switzerland or Nagano, Japan - or even Dixville Notch, NH, USA. General location ("A city in Canada" or "A tiny town in Brazil") is perfectly fine.

Along with many mods, I've moved shop over to MTGNexus. Come check us out!
I live in central Texas with no real local shops to sell to that are worth a darn (we have just 2, and one isn't buying and the other has cut his buylist prices due to monopoly.)
My goal is the typical "get some money fast", but then again I don't need any cards at all since I'm jumping out of the game entirely (again haven't played in years.)
I have two binders full of sheets (both in like new condition minus a bit of dust), about 20 pages of random common/uncommon foils, 50 or so pages of rares (could be a bit more, but they're mostly Bulk anyways), 2 pages of foil rares/mythics including lands, some "chase rares" such as golgari grave troll, death's shadow (not sure if this is "chase" anymore or not), an ensnaring bridge 7th ed, etc. I collected rare lands, so have several of those (I think the most expensive being Pendelhaven, foil ghost quarter, and Brushland.) Tons of uncommon/common chase cards such as Timely reinforcements, Journey to Nowhere, Tallowisp, Goblin Bushwhacker, Esper Charm, etc. Also have hundreds of full-art zendikar lands.
I am in need of the money, so I'm offering OBO on the lot mostly, but trying to at least get a decent percent of their worth. I've looked at buylists and most of them are pretty poor. Combined between SCG and ABU Games is the best I was able to do, and that was only in the range of 450-500. Hoping to do a bit more, which includes throwing in the binders, sleeves and deck boxes I have.

Wow, my random guesses got within a couple hundred miles. Not too shabby for dropping four pins on the Earth.
You've done enough work to find out that the buylist on this collection is $500. You can try to pull out the highest-end stuff and sell it separately, but unless we're talking Revised duals or other $50-$200 cards, your best shot might be to separate the collection into ABU and SCG piles and make two eBay auctions. Start at buylist + 15% (to cover your fees), and if they sell, great. If not, buylist them.
If you have a full list, feel free to PM it to me and I'll take a look and see if I have any more specific advice.

Thanks, I'll do that. I'll also try to get a list together--right now I only have the important and semi-important cards while removing much of the bulk cards (and in the process maybe missing something decent...)

Another thing you could do is drive to Austin or Dallas. I live in Houston so I'm familiar with the shops here, but can't really help in those two cities. If you're not in a hurry tack it on to another trip to the area. If you do make it to Houston, I'd also recommend you check out Strikezoneonline.com. They're located in southeast Houston.
You could probably just call up some of the stores in those areas and check out Strike Zone as well. At least it gives you another avenue.
Ebay and Craigslist I would consider to be last resorts. Your best bet is likely buylisting the cards you can from the various sites. There's a place called MTGprice.com that actually will give you a list of the buy prices of each card. It'll require more work on your part, but you can get the most from buylisting to each site that way. Bulking out the rest of your collection to buylists (usually $5 / thousand or the like) or donating to someone is typical for your commons/uncommons.
