I was hoping to pick up a few of the new foil Zombie tokens at the EM pre-release this weekend. What might be a fair cash price to offer people for them? I see there is a pre-sale for them on Ebay for $8, but I am not sure if that is a good baseline or not, and I can't find any others for sale.
They're apparently in every prerelease kit, so I doubt they'll hold that high. 2/2 zombies are a common type of token and WotC rarely prints foil tokens, so my guess is that they'll hold somewhere around $5. This thread should be on Market Street Cafe.
That's a small percentage of players though, to soak up literally millions of foil tokens. Pack tokens are essentially free and serve the exact same purpose (we have a really nice looking zombie in EDM boosters to boot). If foil tokens become a regular part of prerelease kits the uniqueness factor will go away and we could see these and similar items in the $1-2 range.
I feel like I need around.... 20 of them. Can't wait to get my hands on them.
And that's the thing that's going to drive the price on these tokens. People are going to want as many as they can get their hands on.
Your point? If I can get them for a buck a piece I will gladly do so, or I may have to pay a bit more. I actually want to play with them, they are made for Innistrad zombie commander, and their pimp factor is nice. Nice things go for more money, and many are willing to pay that extra cost to make their deck standout.
As a note, the Plains from Dragon's Maze is also something that is shiny, that people want in abundance (matching lands in your mono-white EDH deck, anyone?), and has a similar release pattern. It started off around $3, but now it's under a buck. Demand will probably start out strong but taper off as the novelty fades. And if WOTC does more foil tokens in the future, forget it.

That WAS his point. It was pretty clear he was saying the desire to own these en masse as opposed to a 1 or 2 of will drive the price.
Sorry mods, I didn't realize this forum existed, or I would have put the thread there.
I ended up offering people $3 (Cdn) for them, and quickly ran out of the $20 in change I brought, so I guess that was close to a good price for them. After playing in three pre-release events and buying a few, I have 10 total, and debating whether or not I want 3 more just so I can foil the board when I cast Army of the Damned.

And how many iterations of foil Plains exist? And how many of those have a higher pimp factor than the Dragon's Maze version, due to scarcity, art, etc. Now, how many iterations of foil Zombie tokens are there?
More than one since anyone can print something shiny that says 2/2 zombie and it's a valid token. I expect the foil zombies to do better than the DGM Plains regardless though.
I just picked up 22 last night (on eBay) for a little under $50 shipped. That was for the whole sealed pack, so I also got 22 (admittedly mostly janky) prerelease cards. I don't think that $4 is going to last. Seller still has a bunch of slightly-less-janky prerelease card packs, so if you think that the zombies are or will be worth $4, you can get them for that price right now with a prerelease card like Wharf Infiltrator or Stitcher's Graft.
