Hello everyone! First of all I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this.
So it's simple: I have about 2000 cards right now, most of them decent. Since I stopped playing, I will be selling them online. However, I think most people wouldn't buy 2000 cards at once, so I need to sell them in smaller amounts. And here is the question, how would you guys recommend me to distribute the cards I have in smaller groups?
** The cards are over 2 years old, so I assume we're talking legacy here.
My collection consists of:
- 234 Lands (13 special ones)
- 815 Common
- 840 Uncommon
- 149 Rares (1 planeswalker)
- 2 Mythic
So yeah, any advice is welcome. Should I distribute these cards equally in say, 4 groups of 500 cards? Maybe 10 groups of 200 cards? Should I include the really good cards in these packs or sell these individually? What about lands?
I'm sorry that you've decided to quit the game. Without knowing exactly what you have, I can only give general advice, so here goes (apologies; this is going to be harsh):
Most of your cards are worthless.
With only a very few exceptions, basic lands and commons are not worth the cost of shipping them. Most of the uncommons also fall in this category, although they have a better chance of being valuable. You mention that you have one planeswalker, and you list it in the rares, so am I correct that this is a Lorwyn/Shards-era collection?
Here are your options.
First, you can list it on eBay as a whole collection, just as you've described it here. 2,000 cards is not that many to someone who buys collections, in fact it's quite a small purchase. Don't expect more than a hundred bucks, though. This is the minimal effort approach.
Second, you can list all your rares and foils separately, and maybe have one listing for all the rest. It'll take a lot of work, but you'll see better returns.
This advice is predicated on all your cards actually being good, playable cards (not necessarily modern; edh or casual also drive prices). Or, you could post a list here or pm it to me, and get more precise advice. If they're all in a binder, you could take a video of flipping each page.

Your best bet is to determine the worth of your priciest cards. Start with the Mythics and Rares. Price out any foils as well. If the rare is less than 50 cents, it's basically bulk, and should essentially be treated as if it's value is zero. Then, add up the value of your cards on a site like TCG Player, and try to sell them for somewhere between 50-75% of the figure you arrived at. Unless it's a very few specific C's or UC's, people won't want them because of the impact they'll have on shipping costs (and, if you're paying for shipping, you won't want to eat those costs as well). Simply put, most 1-5 cent C and UC's don't justify their cost to ship, so either hold on to them, toss them in the trash, or sell (or give) them to a local game store, if you have one.
Yep I did go rare after rare, and I separated the ones that had >$1 value. My plan was to make four packs like this:
30x bulk rares
150x uncommon
150x common
50x lands
380 sounded like a number that would sell easy. So you guys are saying I'm better off simply selling all the bulk stuff in one go (i.e. 120 rares, 600 unc, 600 common, 200 lands), and try to sell the valuable ones individually?

Yep.
Less hassle for you, less in total shipping.
