It seems like there aren't any commons worth anything being printed now. The last common worth something seems to be Thought Scour from Dark Ascension. Is this because commons are now unplayable in constructed, or because there is too much supply? Is there any chance that a common from a recent set ends up being worth a dollar or more down the road?

Since DKA, there have been a handful of commons to be worth something... (not including cards from Modern Masters) wastes Shadowborn Apostle Murder
In general there are too many copies of these cards running around to be worth something.
However, commons are most certainly playable in constructed. Take a look at the decks playing right now. You will see several powerful commons in them.

Blisterpod, Nantuko Husk, Elvish Visionary, Loam Dryad, Read the Bones, Duress, Thraben Inspector, Fiery Impulse.. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
I would virtually guarantee that if you look at all of the playable commons from this current standard, that in 5 years some of them will be worth at least $1-$2. Since there are so many copies floating around they have to get buried in bulk boxes and forgotten about before they start to rise in value.
I shouldn't have said they aren't constructed playable, but I still think that compared to things like Spell Pierce, Spreading Seas, and Blighted Agent, recent commons have very little value.

That is typically what happens with commons and cards of all rarities in general. When they are in print or relatively new, they aren't worth much. But once they are out of print for a few years, they start to go up (if they are playable).

Yes, commons today are printed to death. It's possible that a 2016 common could end up at a buck or so, but with more aggressive reprints (*MA series, aka the new core sets), I doubt it. Smash to Smithereens was an expensive common, and then it got a reprint. Now there are a million of them.
Scarcity drives value, and commons just aren't that scarce. You'd have to find the sweet spot of a common being powerful, unique, and about a year before it's eligible for a Masters reprint. That's not to say that it can't happen, but it's not, well, a common occurrence.

Monetarily, definitely. Playability, also a yes. Since magics NWO, they aim to make commons much more simple for newer players to understand and for limited. In constructed, they're really only used to fill out a curve. Even then, it has to be the best of the best. Or they fill niche roles.
I can easily see wastes being 3 - 4 dollars in a few years. They are unique, hard to reprint and plane specific. Definitely has it in it to become expensive. They are especially sought after by edh players who want to build colourless commander decks. It was such a pain for the longest time to get a colourless mana base, but now these solve your problem.
I think it will not be long before we bemoan the fact that BFZ did not also have wastes.

It may very well be a expensive common in the future again. Current supply will eventually dry up again and then these may very well go back up.

Full-art Wastes are unique to BFZ block. Wastes will be reprinted in a Commander deck, and sooner rather than later (and the economics of full-art basics is a discussion for a separate thread). My point is that WOTC is stepping up their reprint game with notable commons. We're getting increasingly frequent Masters reprint sets. Heck, they're even reprinting reprint sets (Duel Deck Anthology, Planechase Anthology)!

A common card in standard will never be worth money. They are over-printed. It does not mean that they wont find value in some decks, but in regards to $,they are worthless.

There are not a lot of decks that need colourless sources - only EDH decks as well as decks which run the new spells which need specifically colourless mana.
In addition to these decks being somewhat obscure, there are also better options. Legacy Eldrazis don't usually run Wastes (despite the prevalence of Bloodmoon and Wasteland). EDH has cards like Quicksand, Desert, Mystifying Maze, Blasted Landscape, etc, and would rarely want Wastes - especially if they become hard to find and/or worth a couple bucks.
Essentially we are taking decks which are worried about non-basics land hate and can't be by on regular basics. I very much doubt this "demand" will ever be enough to increase prices.
For a common to be worth paying a dollar for a lot of people need copies they don't have and for them to be scarce. In print commons are the easiest things to attain in the game/you're not going to be shelling out a dollar or even 50 cents for them almost every time. The only way commons go up is if they're playable in modern or legacy and have been out of print for a long while like gitaxian probe and spell pierce.
As for wastes in EDH decks, usually you don't even need wastes because there are so many lands that tap for colorless mana that you can run. People ran colorless EDH decks before wastes came along. The only money to be had in wastes is in foil full art versions I think as they are pretty neat looking and who knows when we'll get full art foil wastes again.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Print runs are so large now, it is hard for a common to be worth anything because a single box can produce a dozen or more. However, foil commons are something else entirely. Foil Treasure Cruise broke $10 for a while before it got banned in everything. I think foil Delver is still in that range
