I've been seeing a lot of talk here and there about Nahiri, the Harbinger as a potential spec. She has seen some Standard play and Jeff Hoogland has been brewing with her in a Modern Chord shell. Andrea Mengucci has even said she was viable in Legacy Miracles. And lastly there's the question of what she is the harbinger of coming in Eldritch Moon. It could be nothing but at this point that potential seems to be gravy as she already has been seeing play in multiple formats which is more than other cards like Drana and Relentless Dead have got going for them. Thoughts on her as a potential spec?
I snap purchased a copy for $11 when she showed up on camera day 1 of the last pro tour. I wanted to try her out in my cube, and was fortunate that I recouped a bunch of the $ selling the card she replaced. Her price didn't go berserk after the coverage, but I was afraid of a spike up to $20.
I think her current $11-13 would be too much for me to spec on, and my personal expectation is for her to follow Kiora's trajectory, rather than go up a lot. The only deck I think she is seeing any play in in standard is mardu midrange, where she doesn't even seem to be a make or break inclusion. Her presence in the modern kiki deck also seems quite optional.
If a R/W deck pops up after eldrich moon is spoiled, and nahiri's price is down in the $7 range, then I would probably consider specing a copy or two.
Just a note, foils have been bought out and nonfoils are drying up on TCGPlayer.
I just think her high loyalty combined with her versatility mitigates the downside she is 2 color somewhat. It remains to be seen if she puts up solid results that puts away comparisons to Narset or new Kiora. But she has already been brewed with in multiple formats which is a lot more than either of the recent dual color 4 mana walkers can say for themselves.
She's up to $21 now. We'll see if this really pans out, but I suspect she will settle a little due to low demand for her in Standard and her 2-color nature limiting her Modern reach.
People are saying she's being played in miracles, but that's not really true. Of all of the miracles decks that have placed, only one of them played a couple Nahiris and an Emrakul, and that was in an MTGO legacy constructed league and not a major tournament. I really doubt she's viable.
I bought in on pre-release anticipating that this would happen - the card is really good, people. Played at the right time, it protects itself, it draws cards, it wins the game -- everything you want.
Still, at at the moment I'm still just even. Should have waited until she dropped to $10.00. And, if the decks experimenting with her decide they're better off with some other very good card (Big Daddy Jace), which I think is going to true of Miracles, she could easily slide back to $15.00 or so.
I don't think you can spec here expecting Baby Jace performance, but perhaps you can expect Sarkhan-who-turns-into-a-Dragon level.
She's $22.50 right now. Not sure where she's gonna go from here. She saw some success in the typical Modern Jeskai lists (basically running Nahiri x4 and 1x Emrakul).
I guess I should be thankful I have 1 copy. If I brew with her, she seems like a card you'd want multiples of. <.<;; Haven't played with the card; no true idea of what she's like. She looks "good," but "how good?" is the question.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
The one thing that Nahiri is better at than jace is removing things, and that isn't irrelevant in legacy at all. Exiling a goyf versus bouncing a goyf is little league in comparison to major league baseball. Not to mention she exiles artifacts and enchantments as well/she eats counterbalance, which is huge in the miracles mirror as the player with active countertop is the one that's likely winning and she breaks it up. Ultimate still wins the game for you too so that's good. Also doesn't die to pyroblast unlike JTMS and pyroblast is one of the most played cards in legacy.
I didn't get how the card didn't have much hype when spoiled. What more do people want? She's the best RW walker ever printed hands down. Can't say I'm surprised since history repeats itself as ajani vengeant was a janky $4 card when it came out that nobody really cared for until they realized how good vengeant is.

I've decided to pick up a play-set because she seems good in a Thopter deck. She gives another line of attack and helps you find combo pieces. She's good when you're behind (unless you're really behind), strong when you are at parity, and good when you're ahead. I think she can maintain her $20 and maybe gain a little more.

It's still too early to say. Remember collected company? It was pretty much talked about as a revival for podless pod (or what we call Abzan company now) right from the start. However, it barely saw any appearance in mtgo dailies/gp top 8s for 1-2 months. Now it is solidly tier one. Give it time and we will see what happens. It is too early to conclude now.

You are right, but only if Nahiri has no ultimate. What pushes her over the edge is her high loyalty AND ultimate, and how many modern decks can deal with an attacking emrakul on turn 6-8? Her + ability is really relevant as well when you are digging for cards. I have seen lots of Nahiri being played on stream by various pros and I must say this she is a tough one to evaluate on paper, you really have to see her in action to genuinely evaluate her.

Just because it has the potential to be nutty doesn't mean it's good. Alot of the Nahiri builds are not better than non-nahiri builds of the same color.
She's a card that screams "timmy magic".

Care to explain? Nahiri helps Jeskai control to close out games quickly, and Nahiri is much harder to deal with than resto kiki. I don't buy your argument until you can prove that they are not better like you claimed. Based on what some pros are saying and their playtests I don't think you can prove that non-nahiri builds are better.
FWIW, Nahiri might be spiking again soon. She has risen $3 since her initial spike. Nonfoil copies are drying up on TCGPlayer at a current mid price of $25.

Keeps going up - $30 now. Did she make a splash at a tournament this weekend?

A big Modern event, SCG Indianapolis, is this weekend. I'm not sure how the results are but Shaun Mclaren has been writing article after article about Nahiri the past few days in Jeskai. If you have preium you can check it out but I guess I will hope it has camera time tomorrow or wait for a VOD.
I might be dumping my playset given a good opportunity. $30 is where I guessed this card would end up after the first spike. I wish I had a spare playset or bought more since she is a sweet card that I want to try outside of just EDH and cube.
Peter Ingram won SCG Indianapolis with Jeskai Control featuring Nahiri.
Cedric and Pat did a pretty good job explaining why Nahiri works really well in that deck since Jeskai is filled with cheap forms of interaction and Nahiri forces their opponent to move or die to an Emrakul. It really allows Jeskai to take a more aggressive approach sooner which is something it lacked in the past. It certainly looked great on camera.
There's a Modern GP next week as well so I will be looking forward to see if she makes another breakout performance there. Currently, Nahiri is sitting at $35 nonfoil and pack foils have been bought out at $90 on TCGPlayer.
LOL, that was my friend on Saturday. Two weeks ago, he needed a playset for Standard and was willing to wait even though that was the last card he needed. After she spiked to $30, he tried to offer his most expensive card Grove of the Burnwillows for my 3 of my copies. No way in hell I would do that trade.
Yup. Same here. She seemed cool, so I wanted to get her. But I didn't need her immediately, so I figured there was no rush. My friend gave me one copy and he offered to sell 2 more for slightly below TCGMid. I passed because I didn't want to spend money. He was trying to sell out of Magic, so he just sold them to a store. She then spiked to $22. LOL Pretty rough for us both.
Immediately said, "Screw it, just gonna add them to my Wants on Pucatrade." In about an hour, I got 3 confirmed sent to me. At this point, I'm just glad I got my copies sooner vs. later (2150 points vs. 3500 points) and without having to pay $$$.

I feel like Eldritch is the unknown in the question. Logic says that they're going to print some standard-legal baddy that is worthy of her ultimate. If they do, she might very well end up as a major player in standard as well as modern. Who knows what happens to her price then.
But it does feel like this should be on the upper end of her price range, doesn't it?
