I'm heading there next week and was thinking of stopping by some shops. Currently the exchange rate is pretty good for the Dollar against the Yen/NTD so I can technically get some good "deals" if I find them, but I'm not too sure what. I know foils are the ones to go for and find, but what else? What foils should I look for also?

You want to look for Legacy-playable or high-end EDH foils. I wouldn't really consider anything else.
Depending on which shop you hit, though, they know that Japanese cards are in high demand. So don't expect to be able to just walk into a shop and buy JP foils for a similar price to what you're paying for EN foils here.
What you should definitely do is pick up a couple boosters to bring back and give to your friends. People in my playgroup have, in the last year, gone to Italy, Germany, and South Korea, and everyone has brought back some packs. It's just a fun souvenir.

Yeah my friends all want some packs. They're cheap and don't take any room in the luggage. I just wish I was there a week later to be able to pick up SOI packs though.
I kinda figured on the foils though. I've been looking up prices on them and they are vastly more expensive than English. Just thought maybe someone knew something I didn't know.

If you're there on the weekend of the 2nd/3rd, you can probably trade for/buy some packs at the prerelease. There will always be players willing to sell/trade their prerelease winnings away, before or after they're opened.

It shouldn't. I brought back a bunch of packs from my last trip to Japan.
I also brought home a foil, Japanese Kiki-Jiki because the price was pretty decent. Most shops know there's demand and have priced accordingly, so make sure it's worth it. High end Legacy/Commander staples are a good choice for singles.
I don't know much about Taiwan, but I have been buying, tradimg and selling cards since Urza's Saga. Here are my thoughts...
EDH staples. The casual market is almost non-existent over there.
This is true, last weekend I bought cards worth 45,000 Puca points for 8,000 yen. Cards like Doubling Season are cheaper here. Check the bargain bins for the best deals..

Trading at Prereleases is non-existent. Most stores do not allow trading, so players do not carry extra cards.

Maybe 10 years ago, but not now. Japanese foils in most shops are priced very high. I find that English foils can be reasonable
