Well, they certainly seem to be going up. Any ideas why?
I agree, it has always been second banana to adarkar wastes and, probably, mystic gate. Notably, it doesn't play too well with either of those lands in a hypothetical UWC deck.

Totally agree. Was just trying to thing of any upside. Colorless was the only thing it had going for it over Glacial Fortress. Otherwise it's strictly worse.

It also always enters untapped which is a big deal.
If you need colorless mana. If you need colored mana, it's more dependent on lands already being in play. Fortress takes 1 land in play to tap for both colors. Nimbus needs 3 lands in play to make both colors.

Yeah, I don't get this card. The art is amazing, that's about all it has going for it.
That's true. My point being unless you want the colorless on turn 1, Fortress is every bit as good at a fraction of the price. The art on Nimbus is quite cool though. If it wasn't in short supply I'm sure it never would have taken off in price.

Fortress needs a land with a specific land type. I could be wrong here but I believe Eldrazi decks don't play as many shocks/fetches as your average modern deck.
I believe that's true, but it is more dependent on your other lands to do anything but tap for C. Not only is it typically going to be worse than adarkar wastes, I'm pretty sure it is worse than mystic gate in 99% of situations. The major drawback of filterlands is that you really can't produce anything but C without some other land--this has that, but also, if you happen to have lands without basic types in play, it is still only C. I mean, how many of these types of cards does this hypothetical deck need?
I'm guessing just a buyout based on rarity? There isn't a list anywhere that makes sense of this, is there?

Nimbus Maze depends on land types as well and it depends on a Dual/Shock to get both colors second turn. Fortress can get both colors second turn for either an Island or Plains.

Pretty sure this is it. The card is part of a cycle. Two of the other cards have astronomical prices. Even river of tears is $15 right now.
I'm not sure if I put it here on mtgs or not, but I was asking somewhere if nimbus maze was undervalued at $5. I didn't pull the trigger because I wasn't sure about it and had no use for them. Funny thing is that this is the only land in the cycle that I did not buy multiple (any) sets of since before modern started. 😛 Never was impressed with it...

Had always planned on getting a foil -- I've always fancied the art. Same goes for River of Tears.

Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
It's usually not worth it to bet on a card to rise and wait that long. But sometimes you notice cards that are undervalued for whatever reason or you get inside the head of someone who does buyouts. It can always be a risk, but sometimes you come up big, like when I bought 80 playsets of Sword of the Meek for under $3 and then was able to dump all of them, except a play set for myself.
In general, it's not usually good to get cards like this because sometimes you come up small, but I think the psychology of certain big gains keeps me going. It's actually something I'm trying to personally work on. Also whenever I see a card that I seriously considered or had in my online cart, but didn't buy, go up, it makes me feel badly for not buying it. This is even so if I never wanted to use the card, like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. This is a card that goes in decks that Combo players never use, yet I was mildly upset that I didn't buy at $6. (I was close to)

There's a strong buyout of Allosaurus Rider on MKM! Both the pre-release version and the normal one. The card has pretty much sextupled in price, from under 50 cents to over 3 Euros.
My guess is the following (in Modern, of course):
T1: Land, mana dork
T2: Land, toss two green cards, play Allosaurus Rider, tap GGG, Eldritch Evolution, put into play any 9 CMC (or less) monstrosity from your deck.
And then it eats a Path and you lose, or they remand and you lose, or...
Another janky glass cannon deck in a Modern full of janky glass cannons. I'll wait and see, thanks.

Well, for path, we've got a multitude of shroudy baddies to choose from. For remand, we have Boseiju.
There is a lot of danger to putting 4 cards in for 1 creature. I think the safer bet is Eldritch Evolution itself. That said, I grabbed a SP/MP playset of Allosaurus Riders for a couple dollars, just in case.
I'm not sold on the all-in nature of Allosaurus Rider. Dump 2 green cards + Allosaurus + Eldritch Evolution... so we're talking a four card combo. Granted, two of those four can be whatever green card, but that's still pretty heavy. And you're all-in if they nuke your hand.
I'm betting on Legacy here. Vine Dryad and Skyshroud Cutter allow you to tutor out a 6-drop for 1 green card and zero green cards, respectively, which is far superior to Rider. At 6 mana, you can get:
Arcanis the Omnipotent
Armada Wurm
Aurelia, the Warleader
Broodmate Dragon
Cloudthresher
Consecrated Sphinx
(Any of the Titans or Souls)
Massacre Wurm
Primalcrux
Scuttling Doom Engine
Steel Hellkite
Wurmcoil Engine
and so on. These are not trivial to have out there on turn 2.
Allosaurus Rider will likely be a bust but the damage has been done. Due to price memory the speculators are guaranteed to make a profit.
Do speculators really earn a lot with a card like this? On MCM over the last 8 days there has been only one day in which someone bought one. Won't it just sink back down eventually because demand is so low?

Depends on how patient they are. Even if it drops to less than half of the high point, it's still jumping from under a dollar to somewhere in the $3-5 range. Given enough time, they'll probably sell to someone. It's got nothing on actual playable cards spiking, but that's still a decent profit. Whether it's enough to merit sitting on a stack of Riders for as long as it takes to sell is debatable.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
The problem with a double-up spike on something cheap like Rider is that the transaction costs can really kill a speculator. If you paid single shipping to buy out StarCityGames, that's one thing. But, if you paid $3.00 to fifty people on TCGPlayer, even a double or triple up on a $1.00 card is getting you jack.
Now, the people who spec on $300 Moats, THOSE people are gonna be OK.

I bought some of them at $1.25 or less. So far, I have sold just 2 of them, but that is just $2 less than what I paid for all 16 of the ones I bought, including shipping. So, assuming someone bought a lot more than myself, they do pretty well. They do well enough to spec on another card down the road.

It doesn't matter what you're buying out, you're contributing to the problem with that type of behavior which is compounded by other people doing the same thing. By making people who actually want the card pay more, you're increasing the barrier to entry. How big the barrier to entry is, doesn't matter, it could make anything inaccessible to certain players.
