Looking into slowly buying into Shardless BUG - coming from Modern I have everything except for the duals. I was considering buying beat up Revised duals and having them altered into black-bordered by someone who knows their *****.
Is this a bad decision? Will this affect their value heavily? Will judges usually clear this at GPs?
Thanks in advance.
Galspanic does a pretty nice alter.
As far as alterations affecting value, it will shrink the audience of people who are willing to take it later on, but those who are willing to take it may pay more for the privilege. Personally, I don't like altered cards (except for the original artist doing a little doodle), and I won't trade for an altered card except at a heavy discount. I see it as damaged - and most stores will agree with that assessment. If they're starting as damaged, then you don't have much to lose, though.
Totally agree with everything you said. Galspanic did some BEAUTIFUL altered Mox Opals for me and they ended up being difficult to move later on.
I had multiple L2 judges say that there was no problem with them for tournament play as long as my whole deck was double sleeved so everything had the same thickness.

+1. In general don't alter anything from someone who isn't the original artist unless you plan on keeping the card for a long time.
Has any noticed the supply of reanimate drying up? few listings still going for 15ish on ebay, and tcg, much less than when I looked at them a few weeks ago. Buy out in progress, or did I miss something?
Ah! Good to know, I've seen some lists running around on mtg top 8, but didn't know it was a thing. It still feels like a buy out, with the market price being at 10 on TCG, and the lowest I saw listed were 20. Thanks for the info!
I have been tracking reanimate price for a while, and I was after Badlands too, both for RB reanimator- a fine deck to loan out to people wishing to get into the format, and one that is a bit easier than the blue version both to play and put together in financial terms. In Europe Reanimates have done little- they are still at 7-8 Euros, marginally increasing price wise and in reasonable supply outside of Ebay (see Magic Card Market for some data), whilst in the US supply has been dwindling rapidly. Badlands seem to have followed the same pattern, albeit Badlands spiked in price in Europe a while back.
I thought this was odd in that in the US people are far more wedded to the idea of Tiers and playing the "best deck", probably due to the historical number of large Legacy events, and have always favoured blue decks, Force giving more protection against an unknown opponent. Europe has always been less blue, less "best deck" orientated. I then looked at all the event data and realised that RB really has put up the numbers everywhere in events of all sizes.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
I looked through the lists there are still alot UB reanimator, but RB is up there as well. Now that I think about it, reanimate is the new bottle neck for the deck, since entombs are reprinted en-mass with the second release of eternal masters, reanimate is the one card that is in demand now, and will be until they decide to reprint it, which probably won't be until the next conspiracy or eternal masters, and if the supply issue doesn't get addressed in the next year, I can see it hitting $30 in the us.
Good timing. I just snagged my playset of Reanimate recently to help round out my list of Legacy staples; glad I got on board before it crept above 10 dolla a pop.
That said, 30 seems maybe a little high? It has been reprinted at least twice, both in the Pre-Con Reanimator deck and again in Archenemy. It's also very reprintable in future sets. I suspect it will take a lot to push it beyond 20, and even that might be temporary.

Reanimate has had 5 printings. 4 at uncommon, 1 wide release promo. Surprised it's so expensive. I guess none of them have been big runs by modern standards.

If it doesn't get a new printing in the next year is when I see it hitting $30 because that was where entomb was, reanimate simply replaced entomb as the bottle neck for the deck. For the time being I don't think it'll be higher than twenty, I'm truely surprised that its as high as it is, caught me totally off guard because of how many printings its had.
TYVM, I was really scratching my head over this card.
It's frequently seen in the sideboard of BR Reanimator and Mono-R Sneak Attack, to be brought in against creatureless/light decks like Storm, Lands, some Miracles builds as well as opposing Show and Tell decks, where you can generally come in under them with Sire of Insanity or Chancellor of the Annex which have lower CMCs than Griselbrand, Show and Tell's cheapest creature.

And the BR Reanimator buyouts keep coming. Chancellor of the Annex is up from barely-above-bulk to $15 Low on TCGPlayer. Revised Badlands are also up a bit from ~$40 to ~$55-60. I'd keep an eye on: Sire of Insanity - Still bulk but commonly seen Reanimate - It's had a lot of printings but has still retained a fairly high pricetag, and seems to be creeping up.

Honestly, things like Stronghold Gambit, will settle out once people realize its gone up and worth actually bothering to pull out and put up for sale on ebay or otherwise. Heck I seem to recall it went up previously a while back and then dropped back down. Will it go back to bulk? Probably not, but I doubt its current price will hold once supply has a chance to catch up and real demand brings its price to a more realistic equilibrium.
Same, honestly but even moreso, for Chancellor of the Annex. New Phyrexia wasn't THAT long ago, and once again as a bulk rare previously, there are going to be an absolute ton of these floating around, that will inevitably shoot supply back up near what it was before, and the price will drop back down to earth quickly. $10+ for that card really is a bit crazy, especially from a more recent smaller set and being just a regular rare on top of that.
Will be interesting to see where both cards inevitably level out in, say, a month once supply equals out again.
As always though, definitely appreciate the heads up from everyone about these increases, just makes me wish I knew where my new phyrexia bulk rare box ran off to right now :p.
Yeah, we'll almost certainly see Stronghold Gambit and Chancellor dip back down in price, but likely not ever to bulk again. And Badlands spike is here to stay.

I'm not sure if this is the place or this question but I have a NM alpha jayemde tome and I'm looking to sell it. The price of the card seems to be really inconsistent everywhere I look though I see it range from $400-$800 and have no idea what to expect from it. There are no listings for one ungraded of the condition I have and there seem to be no big card shops that have any in stock. I know it has been reprinted to death and is not actually a very desirable card but it seems to be missing in the market from what I have seen. Help please
Reanimator spikes seem to be cooling. Chancellor of the Annex is abundant at $4
FTV Unmasks can be had for just under $7. Masques Unmasks (say that five times fast) seems to be cooling more slowly and is lingering closer to 12. Stronghold Gambit is back to having a handful of copies sub $1, with high availability at $2. It might survive at "not entirely bulk" status, but that remains to be seen.
Revised Badlands is cooling a bit, a bunch of more beat copies have sunk back down to $65, but gone are the days of <$60 Badlands. Hell, I got mine <$50 a little under a year ago.
In other news, Chalice of the Void is being bought out like crazy, and the Mid price has gone from ~$45 to ~$65. Definitely steer clear of this one, as it's a good candidate for showing up in MM3 at rare, which could torpedo the price back down to ~$20-25.
The only place I've ever seen Three Wishes used is in my casual Sapphire Tide deck (High Tide with Sapphire Medallion). Is someone doing something techy, or is it just a strange buyout?
Could Fluctuator see a spike soon, with anticipation for Amonkhet printing cards that trigger upon cycle? Archfiend of Ifnir doesn't really break Fluctuator, but if it's part of a cycle with a red version... we could potentially see more casual interest in cycling decks.

Looks like someone or multiple someones just bought out fluctuator from just about everywhere (all ebay buy it nows gone and all copies on tcgplayer gone) all bought up today, likely after the announcement of cycling returning. I suppose we will see where the card settles depending upon what ends up actually being in the set as far as cycling goes.

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
