Looks like Urza's Bauble has spiked from Bulk Uncommon to $8.50 mid after Caleb Durward posted a BW Bomberman list running a full set of both of the Brothers' Baubles.
For what it's worth, this card is really a fine thing in casual Saheali Oath. Both Sahlei and Titan can recur or copy it to get extra draws, and if you run Arcane Denial (because why not) you can counter your own Bauble to draw 3 cards next upkeep in a pinch. The baubles are fine little things.
Well maybe people are just not outraged about it anymore. You can be like "yay, my singing tree is worth 80 bucks on tcg" but then you realize that there are not people buying it for that price.

This. It's a pain if it's a card you were trying to pick up, but anyone who was going to play/collect Stone Calendar probably got it when it was a couple bucks. No one is actually paying the current list price for those cards so those prices are basically meaningless. On top of that, most of the cards in the earlier post are unlikely to ever see legacy play and this is the legacy discussion thread. The price of Ring of Immortals is never going to decide whether or not I can play a legacy deck, so I don't really care about discussing it in the context of legacy cards.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
Hello everyone, just came here to ask for some advice, and it seems relevant. I found a serra's sanctum I'm not gonna use, already have the 2 my enchantress deck needs, I run anywhere from 0 to 2 depending on the list. It has been sitting in a metal box for probably over 4 years, my question is should I try to cash in? I don't even remember how (or when) I got it.
Could probably get 50-55 bucks out of it (As at least a couple EDH players have shown interest in my sanctums whenever they see me play them), or wait for another buyout or something when "the 25th anniversary" set is launched next summer?
I'm outside of the EU/US of A, so getting this type of cards is quite tricky, pretty sure I can sell it within a day or 2, and while $50 isn't a lot, I could go buy me some great beers and BBQ something over the weekend.
Edit: I've never been a speculator, nor care too much for it, but I'd feel bad if it'll skyrocket in a year, knowing I just had to let it sit for a bit longer (Kinda wish I didn't find it tbh).

I do not believe the Legacy thread is ONLY for Legacy competitive play. We have seen cards go from obscurity to chase/hot-for-the-moment cards.
These spikes are becoming more and more common. We need to worry because where does it end?
This article, written a year ago in MTGGoldfish sounds like a viable option to stop the buyouts on cards that are still under $10. Sure, the Stone Calendar buy out is a great example of a card that is obscure and most likely only used in kitchen table magic and the occasional Commander deck.

The Commander or Other Format thread would both be more appropriate in my view. I honestly can't see the metagame shift that puts Stone Calendar in a legacy deck, but I have one sitting in my EDH box. You can discuss whichever cards you want here. I just have no interest in talking about cards that I think have 0 legacy playability (typically due to being overcosted) in a legacy context.
The spikes end when everything ends up too expensive for people to justify spending money on or when WotC breaks the RL, something they appear to have no interest in doing. It's not like we're going to see a regulatory body for trading cards or anything. The solution in the Goldfish article is still breaking the RL. Unless we're directing pressure at WotC to somehow address the problem online discussion has either no effect or a negative effect, giving an air of legitimacy to the new prices. What can I say about Old Man of the Sea that's even remotely productive? Anyone who was in the market for one now knows that there was a buyout and they're either spending double, out of luck, or waiting for prices to fall. Anyone who has one can gloat that they got in before the spike or try and list theirs for a quick profit. There's not really anything to discuss.
RE: Serra's Sanctum - It's not likely to fall from where it is. Enchantress is already a fringe deck (:frown:), EDH demand should be pretty constant, and it's RL. The only way I see significant price movement on it in the near term is something like an unban of Earthcraft, a printing that significantly boosts enchantress, or a strong enchantment focused legendary creature.

I'd tend to agree - if it's Legacy-playable, it goes here. If it's simply Legacy-legal, but not a card that's actually played in the format, put it in the "Other Formats" thread. The implicit subtext in this thread is "Cards mentioned here are changing value (up or down) because they are played in Legacy, they have recently stopped being played in Legacy, or they used to be played in Legacy and might be again someday."

I'd tend to disagree, but only slightly. I feel that Sanctum is more of an EDH card than a Legacy card at this point, and WOTC is trying to tick boxes with their annual Commander releases, so I would not be surprised to see an "Enchantments matter" general in the next year or two. That said, it'll be no sooner than that, since we know this year's decks and most of the Ixalan rare sheet has been published. So, it won't go down, but it has a decent chance of going up (but not in the next 12 months). Once that enchantment-relevant commander is spoiled, though, feel free to sell into the hype if you're never going to use your copy.

1) Teferi's Protection was printed so people started looking up anything remotely playable with Phasing on it.
2) Folks noticed this one is also on the Reserved List.
Most likely EDH. However, the real answer is that there's been a run on reserve list cards lately, and as one of the two sets with reserve list foils, Urza's Destiny is a good buyout target. The supply was never huge in the first place, and people are looking for easy targets.

So, is it just a matter of time until uncommons (and maybe even commons) that are foils from Urza's block get bought up and jump on the band wagon? (I bring this up becuse non-RL rares have been bought out and they jumped price just because of low supply (like Stangg).
Opinion time: will the DFC's that flip into "sorta reprints" affect the current price of Legacy staples, like Gaea's Cradle or Diamond Valley?
Let's say, hypothetically I have always wanted a Gaea's Cradle, but now that there's the DFC Growing Rites of Itlimoc, I'll give up my search for the Cradle & settle on the DFC "Cradle" land.
So this then begs the question, w/ the pressure to buy being eased on some of these Legacy lands, will prices drop a bit?
To back up these thoughts, I'm no longer in pursuit of a Diamond Valley, as it has a functional reprint now. I wanted the card to play with, not to collect. I'm sure there are many w/ the same thoughts as I.

I don't think so, and here's why: these cards can't replace the original card in Legacy. Legacy Elves isn't going to play a three-mana enchantment that can possibly become a Cradle at the end of their turn. They want to be able to Rotate into Cradle and start doing busted things right away. Itlimoc might not even be good enough for Modern Elves (it might - I'll leave such discussions to the Modern subforum, I'm just saying that it's not a shoo-in autolock windmill slam). It's certainly a very very good EDH card, but any EDH deck that wants it also wants a Cradle.
As far as replacing Diamond Valley, Arguel's Blood Fast doesn't seem comparable. I have the Valley in an Ayli deck, and there's just no way that I'm going under 5 life in order to flip a second copy. The Blood Fast is a fine addition to decks that want more Greed effects, or for decks that really get swingy with their life totals, but for the generic "lifegain" decks, your Aylis and Oloros, they're never going to flip it. I'm curious what deck you wanted to put the Valley in.
Legion's Landing can definitely replace Kjeldoran Outpost, another reserved card, but that's only played in EDH and kitchen-table casual, and I suspect that it'll supplement rather than replace.
Dowsing Dagger is the fourth card that flips into a reserved card, and while it is better than Lotus Vale IMO, I don't see it pushing the price down. Lotus Vale, like Outpost, is only a few bucks.
I definitely want eight copies of many of these new cards, because they seem awesome, but I don't think that they (at least, ones that flip into a reserved land) the have Legacy applications and they'll probably be used to augment rather than replace in EDH.

What's causing Copper Tablet to jump? Is it another buyout because it was never reprinted after ABU or is it being used in a deck?
4-of in Popeye Stompy.
It's not being played anywhere that I'm aware of. I'd guess that it's the same buyout trend as all the other old stuff we've seen recently. There have been a few non-reserved cards that are being picked up, apparently on age alone.

Then if Copper Tablet is winning Old School tournys....what's caused Volrath's Shapeshifter to jump so hard. The latest deck in TCG player was from 2013.

That sweet Ron Spencer art? It's a combo piece for sure, but a buyout seems irrational. It could easily appear in a commander procon and drop to a buck.

It's looking a lot of these cards are becoming collectibles and not playables.
The Reserved List speculating continues today. Folks are targetting anything that hasn't risen.
A lot of this stuff is spiking then settling right back down as old players clean out their binders and try to cash in and flood Ebay.
