Consecrated Sphinx looks like its on the move. Non-foil prices approaching the foils ($40ish) with only a few left on Tcgplayer below 20. No surprise as the card is bonkers.
It is a long time favorite for Commander. In the past there was some discussion that it might be banned, but that never panned out.

I just mailed a Japanese one to a Puca member today for under 1500 points. I bought it for 600 yen, about $5.00 this weekend. I saw a foil Japanese one for 4500 yen at a shop, I guess this would be a good pick up now.

English foils are in the $40-$45 range, so a Japanese foil at a similar price seems like a good pickup.

Tempt with vengeance from the 2013 commander decks got bought out of ebay and tcgplayer earlier today. Cheapest copies seem to be around $5 shipped or so now with very little supply available. (I only even thought to check because my last 4 playsets got bought out earlier today by an online store from my ebay listings). Not sure why the spike, but certainly something to look into for those who might know, I know I'm certainly curious.

Card is just absurd in Omnath, Locus of Rage. Worst case scenario, you get X Lightning Bolts for XR. Sometimes, the tokens get even more nuts. Best case scenario, someone makes the fatal mistake of accepting the offer and then you just won.
These days, some wizards are finding they have a little too much deck left at the end of their $$$.

I know Purphoros has definitely gone up and maybe still room to grow, honestly. As the popularity of Puphoros goes, so goes this. (And this has about as much reprint potential, which is to say, not very much.)
edit: The green one spiked a few months back.. This was probably the only one worthy of consideration after that one. (Pretty sure I'm not the only one who did that research back when it happened..)
edit edit: It also occurs to me that this card is a lot like another one that also spiked. (With similar unrealized price potential) Maybe that was the logic in buying it out. I just know that today these two are now the same price.
Man..folks are just jumping on EVERYTHING now. Bubble, bubble, toil...and trouble..
Hehe, that explains why my last 2 maelstroms sold yesterday too (just checked TCGplayer, jumped from about $15 that I sold mine for each to about $22 for NM copes, that's not a huge increase, but still certainly an increase).
The jumps on Tempt with Vengeance in particular makes sense then, that certainly does sound like some fairly powerful interactions with other newer cards. Looks like they have settled a little down to $4 on the lower end of NM, I imagine additional supply will put additional downward pressure on that as well, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it eventually settle at $3 each vs the .50-$1 each they were at before.
I guess I missed the jump on the green ones, that's also good to know, but also not surprising, its a great card.
So many spikes lately though, sheesh, luckily I usually have enough supply that I don't have listed that I can get in on both sides of the spike so it balances out some at least. I bet the people who get their playsets for $2+shipping from me over the last week are super happy now, hehe :).
So who had the awful idea to buy out mindslicer... its not that crazy of a card... what is wrong with people
I honestly don't know for certain why it was bought out, but as I mentioned in the modern thread when someone mentioned the same spike, I noticed one of the listing on ebay made some mention of eldrazi in the title of the listing, so perhaps it might have something to do with some testing in some sort of eldrazi modern deck or something and someone felt it was cheap enough to bother going after? Beyond that, I have no idea. Certainly does seem to be a bit strange of a target to go after though.
Edit: Oh hey, just realized I passed 6000 posts, how about that.
With the ban of Prophet of Kruphix in EDH people are talking about replacing her with Seedborn Muse - a card most people already ran, so I can gauge the new demand for her. Does it go up?
The mana production rules also changed so now cards like Praetor's Grasp and Sen Triplets get quite a bit better. In the last 4 hours on TCGPlayer NM Triplets have gone up about a dollar (mostly from the cheaper copies disappearing and not from prices go up), but does the card have a noticeable climb?

Still an enigma. We are mindlessly buying just so we don't potentially miss out despite not knowing anything but "there's a buyout".
That's why I have implemented this crazy effective policy of buying two copies of every card (all rarities) of every new set that is even remotely playable in a non-limited format and doesn't have strictly better versions. Cost me $0,10 here and $0,20 there, but all in all, the nett effect is that never ever miss out on anything. I'm doing this for years and yes I've got two mindslicers
</blockquote>
Before I got involved with a local shop back in 2006, I built my collection (at reasonable cost starting back in '99) with having 4 sets of everything starting with revised and including everything up to the most recent sets at the time. Prices would rise and fall of certain cards but it wouldn't matter because I simply made sure I had everything covered at all times for playing/collecting/investing purposes. From there I then started buying/selling/trading collections and other things on ebay and eventually things like set redemptions on mtgo to grow the liquid collection further, which eventually led into getting involved with the shop and having quite the initial inventory to get me started, and by the time I left the shop in 2012.... well ... my collection was crazy and I'm still working at liquidating it :p.
Anyhow, point of that is that (if possible) getting everything you could possibly need as you go in some form or fashion (whether its just after standard rotation or some other time when the prices are cheapest) certainly isn't a bad idea as it helps insulate you from the possibility of future price fluctuations and conceivably will eek out at least small gains in value over time, even if not all cards may work out perfectly in that regard. (I still remember pricing revised duals at between $10-$25 at the shop when I first got started in 2006, and by the time I left the shop the range was up to 5x-10x that amount for low/high end. These days its a lot harder to eek out gains from collections and other things and MTGO has gotten a lot less redemption friendly from when I was able to take full advantage of it before things took off on there as they have in more recent years. Inevitably though you just never know what might spike, but if you have a way to be prepared beforehand you at least wont be stuck in a position of having to purchase a previously dollar rare for $5-$10 after a spike.
Well, I've been (based on absolutely nothing, mind you) expecting a return of Madness mechanic. Imagine they do, but make it actually playable this time...
Mindslicer suddenly looks like a not-terrible spec?
It doesn't even have to be Madness. It enables a variety of GY strategies (or conceivably could) and probably cost very little to buy out.

Who knows..
What are they using to enable Mindslicer right now in Modern decks? Viscera Seer?
I wouldn't spec on this after it's already spiked. Give me Phantasmal Image or Hex Parasite to speculate on, cards that have a sort of inevitability.

It's like the hysteria of Modern season is spreading it's wormy tentacles over every remotely interesting old card just in case one of them ever spikes.
It is very hard to differentiate between price 'manipulaion' and 'correction'. I think this might be one of those, among many (imo) lately.
Explain to me exactly why a card as unique, powerful, completely unreprintable, old, blue, and scarce as Palinchronshould not be a $30 card, exactly? We're lucky it didn't happen sooner.

I have to agree that a card like Palinchron was one that did always seem undervalued to me to some extent, so seeing it rise doesn't really surprise me too much. Seeing it jump from $10 to $30 though seems like a bit much, but I suppose we will see where it ends up when things settle. I can certainly see it sticking at $20+ though, given what the card can do, I remember all kinds of shenanigans that I had with the card back in the day (as with many of those "free" spells).
people are trying really hard to buyout sen triplets
So it would seem. Lowest NM copies on tcgplayer are now $30, and lowest copies on ebay are now $35 each. Kinda crazy, but at the same time, during my time at the shop the card always was popular, and with the increase in playability with the change in the mana rule for Commander, I can certainly see it being up there a good bit, especially without a reprint, and with it being from a third set that came out before magic took off with M10/Zendikar back in 2009.

I used to bulk rare those back in '05. We had this poker game going where we would bet with bulk rares, and at least one Altar was in that pile.
