This is getting very gross. We as a community need to send a message to wizards to fix the reserve list problem. By geting rid of the reserve list. It was done in 2002. 23 cards were removed from the reserve list. If we get loud enough I'm sure they will listen. At the very least start another loop hole. This keeps happening. There is a buyout I get mad and sad about it. I have a hall of gemstone that I ordered years ago for my omnath deck. I have no desire for magic prices to be messed with like this. I don't know about you guys but I messaged Mark Rosewater about the reserve list. I've gotten no response. I'm going to try again.
I've got an idea. People listen to social media these days. How many people can we get to post on all of wizards social media accounts? I just did twitter. #mtgNOreservelist I think if enough people were to hate on them for the next few months we can fix this. Use their eternal masters as a catalyst for change.
I don't want to see this thread turned into another reserved list debate. Inevitably, reserved list or not, price spiked can only be sustained by actual real demand for the cards in question. And actual real demand at the new higher post-buyout prices. Many times when so-so cards get bought out like that (reserved list or not) they tend to come back down to earth because there simply isn't enough demand at the higher prices to keep them up there. Yes, the whole eternal masters thing is causing a bit of chaos with cards on the reserved list right now, but give it time as things will likely cool down once the hype from eternal masters dies down post-release. This isn't at all like modern and modern masters, where it was released after the creation of a whole new format, this may get some more people to pay attention to the older formats, but I suspect not nearly as much as some people may be hoping/expecting. I look at a card like hall of gemstone and just imagine the sheer number of them sitting in people's bulk rare boxes/binders/etc that are currently collecting dust. Spikes tend to bring that supply out into the open as people look to cash in, and the inevitable result is an increase in the available supply of said cards, as the increase in supply, and very little if any demand at the higher prices causes the prices to slowly work their way back down again. May the end resulting price end up higher than when it started thanks to the cards increased exposure and price memory and other factors? Sure. Will it be anywhere near what the card peaked at? Save for a few special tournament/casual staple cases.... Nope.
Heck I'll use an example of a reprintable tournament staple as an example: Inquisition of Kozilek. The card was $6 after being reprinted en masse thanks to the modern event decks. Slowly over time it rose back up to $12 each before spiking to $25 when it wasn't reprinted as people expected it would be, and now, a short time later? Its back down to $15. The point I'm getting at is for people not to overreact to some of these spikes that seem to come out of nowhere (other than the card being on the reserved list and event remotely decent at all), and if you really were wanting the card, just be patient and in time the card will likely drop back down and you will be able to find it for a reasonable price again soon enough.
Oh hell no... The reserve list is not the topic of this thread. I'm just looking to predict EDH cards that I might not be able to afford if I don't jump fast and lately the reserve list is very connected to that.
Tombstone Stairwell (With so much self-mill I am shocked this isn't played more. I think people maybe don't see that it's each turn and not your turn )
It's also completely and utterly ridiculous in a Golgari shell. Imagine this next to Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest, Zulaport Cutthroat and Dictate of Erebos...
Thanks for reminding me, Gal... looks like I need to get my final three copies before a speculator reads this.

Stairwell destroys the tokens, not sacrifices. Works well with Eldrazi Monument.

Yup, but you do sacrifice the Stairwell itself when you can't pay the upkeep. And heaven knows Mazirek decks have enough sac outlets as is. Shenanigans, I say! Shenanigans!
Pendrell Mists is up, and I remember you (Galspanic) putting this on the list of reserved list cards to watch for a long time ago. That post seems to be deleted as I tried to search for it a month or so back. Considering that this does the same thing one of the most expensive cards in the game does (Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale), it's no surprise it's getting attention now. It's in blue, good in edh, can be played in a blue/white version of stax, is on the reserved list as a great target- all reasons it's going up... It has been slowly drying up in the last few months.
Another card I'd like to see movement on is Elkin Lair. It forces your opponents to play cards that they might be holding off on, buying you time. And if they don't it's out of their hand unless they can get it back. Great stall tactic.

I feel like Uba Mask is much more threatening of a card, and colorless, to boot.
Any idea if Muddle the Mixture foils will come back down from the stratosphere? Knew I shouldn't have waited on one for my mono U deck...

Burgeoning being bought out as we speak. Three NM copies left on TCG at around $30. Why is this being bought out now? I figured someone would make a run on it during BFZ block.

I guess it plays somewhat nicely with The Gitrog Monster, who is the new EDH hotness.
Mercifully not a Reserved List card (I confess that I thought it was until I looked it up to check).
I'm guessing someone tried a buyout of Star Compass foils?
The Planeshift copy is currently sitting at close to 2000 points on PucaTrade, and there's a single MP copy left on TCGPlayer.

Could be? You can still get 8ED foils under a dollar. I don't think the demand is there for it to actually go anywhere, either.

Yeah, it looks like the price reset pretty quickly today. It's back to sub-200 on Puca.
Still, there aren't too many Planeshift foils in the wild... I wonder if one person bought a couple and it did the same bounce that happens to AN/AQ/Legends cards when they're bought out? (i.e. TCGPlayer plays Small Sample Size Theater for 24-48hrs)

The multiplayer format and higher life total in general mitigate its CIPT. Most importantly (IMO), it's ramp in colors that otherwise don't have that ability. I run it in my mono-W, mono-R, and Boros deck. As for its price, it's widely available at $3.25 as opposed to $4, but as it is over 18 months old, is only available in a supplemental product, and said product was $35 originally, $3.25 seems perfectly reasonable.

With the loss of a turn I'd call it more fixing than ramping. I do get that it does pull an extra land, but don't think a land drop loss early game is a small thing.
I need to test with it and see how it plays out. Maybe I'm making too much a deal out of CIPT in this instance.
