Puca didn't burn you, you burned yourself. Did you include tracking on the package valued at $90? Per Puca's guidelines: When shipping higher-value packages, we strongly recommend utilizing Mail Tracking. Because Senders are responsible for making sure that all cards are delivered in a safe and timely fashion, documenting the status of your shipment with tracking services may be critical in the event of a dispute. Packages worth more than 5,000 PucaPoints must be sent with Mail Tracking in order to be eligibe for our 100% Trade Guarantee.
$4 would have saved a lot of heartache. How long has it been? Puca usually requests you allow up to 3-4 weeks, before points can be refunded, but they may rule against you (or at least partially) for failing to follow recommended policies. Packages get lost sometimes, personally I've had 87 successful transactions on Puca and 2 that never showed, a 97% success rate. The longest it ever took for one of my packages I sent to arrive was 23 days, for a $46 Karn Liberated. When both I and the receiver communicated our concerns to each other at about 14 days, I kicked myself for not tracking. I learned my lesson, now anything more than $30 gets tracked. Perhaps yours will show up, again, I was fortunate my Karn eventually got there. I guess consider it an expensive lesson learned.
I shipped a beta plateau and a vendilion clique to japan without tracking............ and it got there. I'm not the biggest fan of buying tracking. Through trading and my tcg store I have probably shipped 40 things without tracking because I think the chance of it actually being lost is probably less than 1% so if my cards are worth less than 100 I actually save more money by not choosing tracking even when you account for losing cards at that 1% rate. And for dishonesty I don't feel the need to live my life like people with reasonable feedback are going to have a change of heart and suddenly rip me. And if they do, meh I live in a first world country.
I did have one person who I sent cards to twice in a row (about a month apart) and they said they did not get either shipment. Now, I will expect something I send out to disappear every now and then, but twice in a row to the same person? Fortunately these were only like 500-700 point shipments each, so it was really not a huge hit to me, but the principle caused me to be vocal about my suspicion.
I have a hard time getting to the PO so I don't agree to send expensive cards often, but when I do it is with insurance and tracking when possible. It is not possible to get USPS tracking that will actually track a package past the U.S. borders, but the number on the customs ticket can be tracked in a limited way.
It would cost me $15 NZD to send Overseas with tracking (only 1.50 within NZ) so I've not sent with tracking; that said I'd never send top dollar cards in this way either. Fortunately so far all the cards I've sent have gotten to their destinations ok.
Well, I've traded over $18,000 worth of cards on Puca, including P9 and dual lands. I've received almost $16,000 worth, including foil Snapcaster, Judge foil Wasteland, etc.
Only one piece of mail that I sent didn't arrive (and it was tracked, so I know the guy never received it). Only once did the post office (US, not my Japanese one) mess up the envelope so that the card fell out. The Puca guarantee covered it.
I love it, and I highly recommend it. The more people who join, the more cards we can trade.
When I reached 5,000 cards traded, I gave away a Plateau. I'm over 5400 now and pondering what to do to celebrate 6,000 trades.
Let's put it this way, if a person did do that, then the best outcome would be that they got one trade without spending points. They can't do it ever again without raising serious suspicions. There is barely any upside to making a false claim like that, so why bother?
I admit that it is a possibility, but I'm not sure if it has ever actually happened. Far more frequent (or so I hear) are people agreeing to trades and sending cards that are not NM/M. If the number of people with special notes in their user name and who send out a further reminder through email are to be believed then lp cards are being sent all the time.
That has never happened to me, and no claims from anyone I have sent to have been registered, and I am frankly tired of getting emails after I agree to send that the person only accepts NM/M cards. Yea, no *****! It's in the rules of the site...everyone only accepts NM/M cards because those are the only ones you agree to send. It's like sending me an email that says that you expect me to send the card by mail and that you won't come to my place to pick it up. I know the rules.
Even more annoying are the few people with a list of special rules that are above and beyond the Puca rules. They have agreed to trade on Puca, so they can accept the same requirements as everyone else- no more, no less.
I have traded on Puca for a couple years and the instances of smooth transactions far FAR out number the very few annoyances.
1) He is scamming you.
2) He actually didn't receive them.
Unfortunately, you'll never know and both of these scenarios leave you on the hook. I'm not saying this is your "fault", but you certainly had the ability to prevent it by spending $2.04 on shipping instead of 49 cents. As has been said already in this thread, this might go down as an expensive lesson to be learned. I'd personally track anything above whatever threshold you're unwilling to take a risk on. For me, that's around the $25 mark.

Any Puca trades you can send me would be greatly appreciated! Big want list and lots of points available.
I don't do high value trades all that often, so when I do it is really no big hit to my wallet.
For U.S. shipping only:
Yesterday I was looking at the USPS web site and I found a decent solution for my predicament. I may have mentioned that I am not currently driving, and the post office is in very awkward place with regard to public transit and is just far enough away to make regular walks there a impractical. I am trading off another of my Flusterstorm, and it is valuable enough that I want a little piece of mine when I send it. What I discovered is that for a little more than you would pay to get tracking and insurance at the PO you can ship in their smallest flat rate envelope for $5.05 with tracking and insurance included. You will need to sign up for an account (free) and from there you can pay the money and print out a label. If I was going to the PO anyway I would never choose this option for sending a single card, but where this helps me is the PO will send you 10 of the envelopes for free. This allows me to not have to go to the PO (which is worth the extra $3 for me), they send me the envelopes, I get them two days later, I stuff my order in it, I pay and print out the label, stick it out for my mailcarrier to pick up tomorrow, and I go on with my fun and work filled summer. The other nice thing about this method is you can get a lot in the envelope, so if I do any trades that are high volume it might make more sense to put them in the flat rate envelope. I think they can be up to a cm thick.
Again, if I was doing a lot of high value trading then this could be a pretty expensive convenience, but most of my trades are in the 1500 ticket range or a little lower so I don't feel the need for tracking.
Using PayPal Multi-Order Shipping, you can print out a tracking USPS label that fits perfectly on the front of a bubble mailer. I use this for just about all my expensive trades. Costs about $3 and I don't have to go to the Post Office.

Oh, I had no idea...ill have to look into that, but then I'd have to buy bubble mailers and I usually buy them only as I need them. I might have one more.
Looks like there is no way to ship with tracking, which is the only time I need more than a forever stamp to mail trades.
Just an FYI, if you use Paypal, tracking is only $2.
I still use it for my high value items (most stuff over $20), but I've been reconsidering, and I'm certainly not going to use it for anything less than $10. I've done hundreds of trades online for multiple gaming products...everything from 40k, heroclix, MTG, whatever. I don't believe I have ever had a failed delivery. Also, keep in mind that tracking doesn't help your package get delivered, it just tells you the status of package delivery. This is nice to avoid getting scammed, but there's really NO reason to scam someone on Pucatrade (one of the best things about the site)
I actually just today received a card that was mailed to me almost a month ago without tracking. After about 2 weeks the guy sent a second one (Saturday the 17th), but with tracking this time. This past Saturday arrives and I still haven't received the Strand so I ask for tracking #. He gives it to me, but is shows as an invalid #.
I received a flooded strand in the mail today in a PWE (no tracking) but assumed it was the second one. I took a pic and sent it to him, he says it was the first one. Funny thing is, it was postmarked for the 23rd of July?
First of all, how do you make a USPS printing label on Paypal, with tracking, for something that was not payed for through paypal. I looked around on the site but couldn't find it.
Second, tracking is almost more for the recipient often times. When I ship something off it pretty much leaves my mind and I don't really think about it again until I get points, have not received my points a month later, or the recipient emails me asking when I shipped it. 99% I just tell them when I sent it (even though they can see when I marked it shipped) because I don't use tracking often. If the item is valuable enough that I want to be able to prove to the recipient that it has been sent and give them a method by which they can track it if the package is delayed for some reason. Tricking is also for me in that it cuts down on suspicion, even though it has no bearing on when the package gets there. At least I can prove I have nothing to do with the delay.

It's always been hard to find or labeled poorly. From your Account Summary page, click Seller Tools. At the bottom of this page there is a bunch of links, click Manage My Shipments under Shipping and Taxes.
Or here for a direct link.
Once in the tool go to File->Create New Orders. I usually use 2oz weight, First Class-Package/Large Envelope for bubble mailers. Cost was $1.93 last time I used it. Labels printed from here include a tracking number free.
Since PayPal was brought up, I highly recommend stamps.com as well. I've been a loyal user of both but recently PayPal has made it harder to JUST use their multi-order shipping and not invoice the whole thing, so I went stamps.com. You can enter orders in bulk, print out shipping labels 2 per page, and it's about $2 w/ tracking and delivery conf for a padded envelope that fits 100+ cards easy.
My last puca trade involved a guy claiming the cards I sent him weren't mint, and he refused to give me the right amount of coins, and also refused to return the cards. When I showed the admins the pictures and the story, they responded with something similar to "sorry for your luck". I have refused to use it since.
I feel like I should share a good story as well. A card on my want list (the green siege from dragons) was a few coins above what I had available. A guy donated me the coins then sent me the card. It wasn't much but it was enough to make my day. There are good people on the site for sure, but there isn't enough protection for the honest users vs scammers.

Yea, but it is also a subscription service, so those of us that ship out less than 100 cards a year would never really get value out of it.

How is it even possible to not give full points? Is is paid subscription thing? All I can do when I get a card is to click that I received it. Not that I have had need to use such a thing.
Tracking is SO cheap for you Yanks. I'm in Canada and it's brutal.
I never send cards outside of Canada/US/UK. Sorry, been burned by both South American trades, and both Italian trades. Thank goodness for the Puca Admins!

Basically anything north of Italy and west of Russia will be safe
Not entirely true. Spain has its fair share of postal issues. But the rest of Europe should be OK.

Conveniently, Spain is not further north than Italy.

I re-use bubble mailers I have received from other people. Just use some box tape and add another layer to the label!

I don't get that many trades in bubble mailers, but I do re-use them. Most things I get are in top loaders (with way too much stick tape on them!!) and regular envelopes. I just opened one where the top loader is closed with what looks like black electrical tape (and no order #), so that one will probably just get trashed since I will nevedr get the gum off the plastic.
