First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this question (I posted here because it involves trading cards).
I am well aware that bubble mailers under 3oz can be shipped with delivery confirmation for $1.93 if you use Paypal's Ship Now feature or use Stamps.com. However, both options are really not viable for me at this time. I've heard too many horror stories about bank account freezing, phishing, verification problems, and other hassles that discourage me from getting a Paypal account. Stamps.com is infamously hard when it comes to account cancellations, and I do NOT want to open an account in the first place due to the large monthly fees that are present.
So my question is this: Is there a way to electronically print first class labels *with* tracking at the above price (or a price similar or close to it) WITHOUT using a Paypal account *or* paying a monthly fee for some website? I am asking this question because I have to ship bubble mailers on an infrequent basis (2-3x a month), and I would like to find a way to save some money when sending First class parcels with tracking and avoid the arguments and overcharges that comes with personal transactions with post office workers. Any help would be appreciated.
I've never had any issues with Paypal and ship 3-4 times a week with them. I'm not sure what arguments or ovecharges you're talking about there.
As far as I know, it's the cheapest way.
I've seen a lot of people who have been discouraged from getting a paypal account for one reason or another, and almost all of it is unsubstantiated to me - people are too paranoid I feel like when it comes to online purchases, or usually the problem is something of their own making and they don't want to admit it. I've used paypal for years and have ten of thousands of dollars in transactions with them and have never had a real problem. It's way safer than something like a western union money order.
I've also used paypal for a million things in the past few years and have had zero problems. It's been incredibly useful and without it I don't actually know how I'd do most of my transactions.
I haven't had problems with a PayPal account. The horror stories are from the minority and they are loud. The happy people are pretty quiet. And if you are paranoid about it, just create a PayPal account, link bank account, put ~$20 in there, and then unlink bank account. Pretty low risk so you can get easy shipping.
Or you can just have an account and never verify it, just use it for shipping once someone else pays you and you just use your PayPal balance to pay for shipping. You could even give a friend cash to pay your PayPal account to seed it so you never have to put a bank account or credit card on it. And then you can use the cheap shipping.

I will also pitch in my 2 cents as well, and say that paypal has been something that I have used in conjunction with my online sales and shipping and has never been an issue. The shipping aspect is ultra-convenient, and the discount is fantastic and is absolutely worth getting an account for, even if you only plan to use it now and then. I have never had an issue with my bank account/credit cards being linked and as long as you follow the directions as they are shown for setting up the account and whatever account linking you decide to do, then you should absolutely be fine :). One thing I will note though, is if you use it with a linked bank account to pay for shipping, make sure you have a check register handy to keep track of what you have spent, it can take a day or possibly a little more for the deductions to show in your actual bank account (not the paypal account, your actual bank account), so your bank account balance will show up as being off until the amounts show up in your account. If you are using your paypal balance, then it just deducts from your balance and that's that :). (Mind you, in general its always recommended to use a check register to keep track of all purchases made so that you can be assured that you don't accidently overdraft by assuming your balance as shown online at a particular time is 100% accurate for what you have spent up to that point.)
I will note one thing in particular though, if you plan to use paypal for buying/selling. Paypal is a great additional layer of protection if you are a buyer and run into an issue. For sellers its a very convenient, widely used and safe way to accept money online, but you should keep in mind that they do require the sellers have proof of delivery should an issue come up, so if you choose to ship without tracking, you do run the risk of paypal siding with the buyer should they file a claim that they didn't get their order. But if you are using it for first-class package with tracking, then you are covered there anyway :).
Ok, so I got a Paypal account, where I encountered EXACTLY the hassles I was afraid of when Paypal limited my account just because I accidentally entered from the wrong field when I attempted to input my Tax ID number. (To everyone who had no problems: I told you so.) Because I am a graduate student with all of my photo IDs listing my old address while having my bank account at my current temporary address, I have no way to remove the restrictions of my account.
So, I REALLY do need an alternate way to receive discounted first class tracking without paying a monthly fee for some website, so can someone please help me out?
I've cancelled a stamps.com account after the trial period ended, and it wasn't too bad. They didn't let me cancel through the web. I had to call in to cancel, but that didn't take longer than five minutes.
Instead of using PayPal, I like going to Office Depot and mailing stuff through their shipping center. You can mail a small bubble envelope for $2.07 and get tracking and free insurance if the value of the package is $50 or less. I don't ship through USPS anymore because they charge more.
