I think that we're hitting back to back pre-release periods with EMA and EMN, so trading has been particularly miserable recently. I think folks are just being hyper-cautious of any potential trades that aren't either recently or immanently rotating standard cards. Unfortunately, it's probably how the rest of the year will progress as well: EMN into August's Conspiracy 2, into september's Kaladesh, into November's comm 2016.
I'm also curious if youtube videos, such as GG Degree's "pucatrade is bull*****", aren't spooking people out of the service too...
All that's crap. I just finished out my EMA "cube" in less than 2 minutes. No really, I posted the bulk commons/uncommons and rares I needed and less than 2 minutes later I'm getting every single one of them. You have to predict what people are looking to dump and take advantage. I also picked up a Mana Crypt almost instantly because I figured people opening boxes would be looking to cash out.
Beyond that, it's been a little slow, but the only cards on my want list are Reserved. Even with that, I've had about 6 cards sent to me in the last month. PucaTrade is still great for mid-value EDH staples and standard stuff.
Does anyone have any idea why it's so hard to get cards from the 2015 Commander precons and why no one seems to want to trade off the BFZ manlands? It seems like hardly anyone has ANY of the C15 cards for trade. I know the decks weren't as value heavy as previous years, but were they really that unpopular? It took me an eternity to get some of the commanders and uncommons from them and I still have rares and uncommons and tokens from the decks rotting on my want list. I can't believe those cards are in such short supply. It's also taken me forever to get a playset of the new Zendikar manlands.
As someone who's chased a lot of C15 cards, and bought a lot of Commander decks in the past, my thinking on the matter is that people usually buy these things to play them and kitbash them, not to tear them apart and trade the pieces. It's usually pretty easy to get some of the dross out of the popular decks (e.g. anything worth less than $1 out of the Nekusar deck), but some of the other stuff is pretty hard to get. I've had more success buying some of the really hot new C15 stuff than picking it up off Puca.
That said, patience is usually rewarded. Eventually.
Is there any way to look at a prospective trade partner's address prior to confirming a card? I have a mid-value, in demand card I would like to offload, but would like to trade with someone in the same city, state, or region if possible.
Thanks!
Just curious, why region/state? Shipping with tracking costs the same whether you're going to the same state or across to the east coast. You're also still covered by the puca guarantee as long as you ship it tracked. If you wanted to trade in the area, then you're better off going to your LGS.
Puca has been slow, but EMA stuff is moving great. Gotten quite a few cube foils and even a few abrupt decays today.
Oh, I just want a faster turnaround on the points, and felt (probably erroneously) that fewer complications would arise by shipping it closer.
I can understand puca's perspective if they did not want folks to have address access prior to sending, in case that would dissuade people from trading cross country or something.

Yeah, I don't think there's a way to do that. As for point turnaround, it's all up to USPS and not distance it seems. I had a pucatrade package from a town two over take 8 days to arrive. I could drive there in 10 minutes.
I have actually set up hand drops when I discover my trading partner lives in the same city as me.
We hand-deliver at our FNM regularly. PucaTrade also helps even out in-person trades by sending a few points, instead of hunting binders for cards we don't really want.
how quickly are you guys find expeditions to be shifting?
I put an expo Fire-lit thicket up the other day as the normal copy had been up for months with no success but then the expo got confirmed to me within an hour
I've gotten 3 expeditions to date, with about 6 months of having points. For the first, I offered a 5% bonus and accepted one with the factory crimping (which I sent into WotC for a mint replacement). The others just sort of showed up without any bounty or special work on my part. I think having my baby girl in my profile pic helps! So far I've gotten 2 Temple Garden and 1 Stomping Ground.
If you are paying the 15%+ bonuses, you'll probably get them much faster.
How do you discover that folks live that close by? In my experience, people rarely mention where they live in their profiles.
I'd guess they all know each other's user names. Pretty easy to swap that info at the LGS.

**** yeah, I pulled a Mana Crypt at an EMA draft last weekend and someone is sending me an EMA Force of Will in exchange for me sending them the Mana Crypt after nobody was willing to trade me their Force of Will at the draft.

Since im a gold member, i just looked up raging ravine and blackcleave cliffs and while the average time they are traded is 5.3 per week and 1.3 per day respectively, it only shows them traded about once a month recently.
does anyone know when the trade history actually updates?

Encountered my first fake card. I received a Scalding Tarn this week and hit complete without fully looking at it. Not to use excuses, but was very busy and exhausted from multiple sources.
I went to the LGS for some Thursday night magic (last night) and went to add it to a deck. But something didn't feel right. Thinner, weighed less, print looked off, different texture, printing grain looked different. I had the store owner look at it along with friends there. I had them pull out their Scalding Tarns to compare --- now we saw the differences.
The fake card is the one with the crease (it was NOT from the bend test. I paid <50% of the cards worth due to it being damaged).
I went to support and submitted an email. I also found a page where you send the card to them. Anyone come across this issue and sent Pucatrade HQ the card?
I've been planning an exit strategy from PucaTrade, and lol'ed myself silly as it came to fruition this morning. I woke up to a two-week trading ban for violating section 2D or something like that for being (repeatedly, apparently) pokey in sending cards out. I may write to the admins on July 14th for a reinstatement of trading privileges at that time. No one can send to me, either, so my points earned from my remaining sends will sit in the bank...
I'd been planning on selling my PucaTrade bulk (around 35K+ of commons/uncommons) at a local game convention's auction this August anyways, but I'm going to stop trading now and enjoy the free time I'm gaining by not picking through cards and packing them.
It also seems to me (from this thread and other sources) that PucaTrade may already be over it's 'Golden Era' with the requirement of bounties for any remotely popular card. I'm sure I'll still lurk on this thread, but I think the only use PucaTrade will have for me is trading off hot-potato Standard cards.
I can certainly say, for sure, that I'm waiting for the new website to be live before I start sending cards regularly again. It'll be interesting if that revitalizes interest.
I got confirmation that future site will let reg members receive foils. I have some points stockpiled for some high end foils that aren't super star staples per se and there is a decent chance they might get sent to me.
It would be great if the new site did revitalize interest. I have plenty of points but haven't received a card in months, and my wants are certainly worth the postage.
I have no desire to deal with bounties, so it's possible this is the end of the road, which would be too bad. Puca was so great for me for so long.
I quit using Puca months ago. Like many of you have echoed, it's just a ridiculous service now; started off as a great idea, but bounties and disproportionate membership privileges have effectively killed it. I'll certainly give it another shot when/if they ever get their ***** together, but I'm not holding my breath.
Blargh. I'm in my two week trading ban and spending sooo much time trying to get a hold of senders and receivers of cards that are probably not on the site anymore that either never sent cards or received and dumped the site. Yeah, I think I'm done-diddly-done.
Since they released a statement that they are going to crack down on point sellers, I'm out.
Really? I bought points once and used them for cards that were undervalued on Puca, maximizing my value. Buying points would have been the one way I would have stayed somewhat active on the site.
