So of course I come on here and complain yesterday so I tried promoting a goyf for 13384 points and I randomly got it sent to me the same day.
Also, I tried downloading discord but I have no idea how to link with other people. Is there a guide somewhere on how to actually connect with others?
EDIT: Did they take away the ability to change your username? I changed it just fine the other day when I was a normal member, switched to silver and now I cant change it without contacting an administrator
That's great that you got a goyf from a random. I've seen people on discord promoting it higher without getting one.
Yeah, now I feel bad for coming on here and complaining! I still need three more so I plan on going the discord route for those. I downloaded it and joined the server posted on reddit but there are a ton of channels. Do you guys just post what you are looking for in the paper trades section and hope someone sees it? Or post every few hours? Want to make sure I get the most out of discord since I am new.

Yep, #trades-paper is the place to drop your profile link and mention your wants.
The unofficial rule is "not more than once every 30mins, or if your last one is still on the screen", I'd say. It's not written anywhere, but people will complain if you drop your profile more frequently than that.

You might want to check #trades-highvalue as well. I think these are mostly reciprocal (not sure) but this could be a good place for you if you have some higher-value stuff to trade for the goyfs.

Playing with proxied cards at sanctioned events is good, actually.
Simple question... is reciprocal trades going to stay forever? I still get randoms coming in, but when one is trying to whittle down their points, recips don't help. Is this truly a healthy environment to trade?
Anyone find a new technique, trick, or avenue to bring others in for trades? I joined a few trade groups on Facebook a few months ago, but nothing came to fruition from there.
I was hoping promoted trades would pull others out of the reciprocal trade style (which feels unhealthy, but I am guilty of it just to keep up w/ Jones...).
Kinda sad when the thought pops in the head "remember back in the day when people would trade freely... When the days after a pre-release all of your points were eaten up by others ditching their cards. I remember not having enough points during the pre-release weekend to get what I wanted from the new set. I began to prepare ahead of time by sending out a mass amount of cards, sitting on $200 in points AND still running out of points. Those we're the Puca Trade salad days...

There's been a lot of talk on the discord channel about trying to get away from reciprocal trading. I think it will eventually go back to the way things were, but the bottom line is that Puca Points have to be attractive. Right now they're viewed more as a liability, albeit not nearly as bad as 3 or 4 months ago. Things are definitely moving in the right direction. If people are random sending goyfs (I got one with a promotion too!) and fetches, then it's definitely healthier than it was.
The huge point sinks that have been at work have definitely been helping. I think the promotions are the biggest help. People see that they can get the cards they want by spending a little more, so they are more willing to send stuff off to build up points. I think another 6 months or so and things will really be humming along. At least that's my hope.
That's about where I'm at too. I've had more random receives in the last fortnight than I have had in a long, long time. Promoted trades are definitely working - they're just much more effective for smaller things right now. We'll see how they end up shaking out with the really high-end stuff.
Thirded.I get some random trades here and there (true randoms from the site), but the majority of my "random" trades are due to my presence in Discord and having built up a reputation for being a decent person who frequently sends out cards without trying to get reciprocal trades. Hopefully we can get back to the point where you can put a card on your list and have a reasonable expectation of getting it, but I honestly think that period is in the past and the user base is too large to support that model.

Confidence will come back like a wave. Do you think people are exploiting the large disparity between 100 points and a dollar? Ie, I can send off stuff for 60% promotion and then get it back in a few months for 10%?
Also does this seem like the perfect way to "trade down" If you can send a Goyf that cost you $85 for 13000 points you could get back a ton of 100-200 point cards with a wide buy list.
With that said, it may be a long time before we see high dollar cards being sent without promotion. The system didn't really give incentives to trade down before unless you thought a reprint was coming. Now that they are there they might stick.

People are definitely doing some profiteering, but I think it's in picking stuff up cheaper than you can send it off for to someone who REALLY wants it. I mentioned getting a goyf for 13000? Well, I sent it off for 18700 the same day that I got it in the mail, lol. I saw another person asking 22000 for a noble hierarch today, and I'd bet money he gets what he's asking or at least close to it.
You can definitely pick up lower value cards right now without much in the way of bonuses. The way I like to build up points is pick through my draft boxes, input all my somewhat desirable commons/uncommons and bulk rares, then find the most valuable package trades I can put together. I like to send off packages of 10-15 cards for 700+ points. Then when I offer a 90% bonus on a snapcaster mage, I don't really care that I'm overpaying because it was all bulk anyway.
I definitely agree that we're pretty far off from seeing high demand staples being sent without LARGE bonuses.
Got a lucky random coming my way (a send from left field)... Had Singing Tree promoted at 5,700 points. Someone grabbed it & it's on it's way. Getting a card like this has somewhat restored faith in me. It was a spiral of goodness that followed (paying it forward maybe?). The Singing Tree ate up a lot of my points, so I needed to restock. So, w/o wanting a reciprocal trade, I sent out over 5,700 points, just to make sure I had PP's for Amonkhet.

I think that's a very good sign. Promoted trades are so much better than bounties and I think people want Puca to work. People are willing to take the risk if the payout is high enough.

I've been on Discord for about two weeks and have definitely seen more incoming stuff now that I'm willing to do reciprocal trades.
However, I'm also finding reciprocation to be problematic at times. It seems like a large majority of people are expecting high value singles in return, regardless of whether they are sending you a $40 Modern card or $8 worth of AER rares.

Agreed. That is why I have almost all together stopped using the Discord channel. When I do, I try to steer the trade away from reciprocal, but that rarely works. People act like you are either A) steeling from them [or] B) crazy. But as I stated earlier in the thread, things are starting to go back to normal.
I logged in to test the waters. I was going to send to some promoted deals tonight but I figured I would put some stuff on my want list...
Mobile site is unmanageable garbage. After fighting for 10 min I managed to add 2 Beta Dark Ritual but couldn't figure out how to add Wastes. Seriously. These Jokers want money??

Well, Devoted Druid shot up to about 805 points each. I now have 3 coming to me. Notice there A LOT of others who want the Druid. So 3 of them set me back 2414 points... not too sure if I should be happy or pissed off. On one hand, the sender picked me (most likely because I had an Umbral Mantle as a Promoted Trade... on the other hand I just dished out, essentially ~$24 for 3 Modern uncommons, lol... Talked about mixed emotions, heh.

If you fell victim to an overnight price spike you should be able to open a case (provided the sender isn't a jerk who "sent cards" as soon as they confirmed the trade. The admins are pretty understanding to this downside. That's one advantage over something like TCG Player, who had lots of people cleaned out as soon as Protean Hulk was unbanned and lost out on more than $10 a card of potential value.

I just got a goyf for 17500, which was 106% promoted. But I've had other stuff come in here and there. You definitely need to offer bonuses, and promoting works even better. It isn't as good as it has been but it isn't as bad as it has been either. The promoting trade feature and the discord server has done a lot in correcting for pucaflation.
I personally don't do much recip. Sometimes, when we both have higher-end stuff we have available for swap, but I prefer the good old way. It has been 2 weeks since the last time someone committed something to me and that has to be one of dryest period since I joined.

True, but here's the dilemma: I do want the Druids. I'm sure if I contest the price jump, the sender will not send. There are plenty of others who still have the Druid on their list. This is supply/demand. Reminds me the Furby craze of the 90's...
What's the actual outcome: would the price be changed to pre-jump status & he/she will still need (not "have to") to send me them, or will they go back to the pre-jump price & the sender will most likely cancel? Most likely the ONLY reason he/she sent was because of the jump/
I mean, that is the price now. I see no reason why you would still receive them for anything other than the new price. You could've probably protested it and tried to find them cheaper somewhere else but personally I'd rather just use pucapoints. I also have them on my list and will gladly pay 800 pp a piece.
