Oddball question, but is there any way to tell if someone has blocked you? I ask because there is a guy to whom I have sent more than 30 cards (over multiple trades). He always has a huge Want list with a ton of old, cheap cards. Now, when I go to his profile, his Want list appears empty. I can't believe that his list would go from hundreds of wants to zero. I have never had a problem with this member, and there have been no cases or messages exchanged between us.
I could be wrong, but wont it only show wants that they actually have the points for? Or am I thinking of something else like that with pucatrade? Basically wondering if perhaps he ended up running out of points or something, or maybe he could just be on vacation or something and yanked down the list for the time being. Hard to say really. I'm honestly not sure on the blocked thing though, hopefully someone else can answer that.
Good thoughts. Normally, if they don't have the points, you can still see their Wants, but you can't click to send. I will wait a little while to see if he has it set to vacation mode.
I've gone cold on it because I don't feel people are fair with what points they send cards out for.
Pucapoints are now worth significantly less than real money due to inflation and people aren't going to send cards easily flipped for cash unless they're currently spiking.
I feel like I keep going through the same cycle. I put some really nice cards on my want list, don't get them filled and then put a bunch of standard cards on just to get things moving.
Fair enough Puca moves slow but it's a little too slow when they want to maintain the parity of puca points to real money when real money can get cards today.
It needs to change and soon.
BTW: The Nicol was SP but I accepted it anyway because I didn't want any trouble. Used it as trade bait.
Huh, I didn't realize it's possible to have negative PucaPoints :D.
Long story short - I had Worship 7th ed on my list for a while. Trade is initiated at 500 PP. The next day, a tournament happens and the price more than doubles to 2200 PP. After a week, I message - nothing. After a second message, I open a case. I got points credited to my account equal to that day's value of Worship: 1700 PP. He gets debited that amount and goes negative.
Who would ruin their entire trading experience over $15? Completely asinine of that guy to wig out on you. I traded one of my City of Traitors copies @ 5800 points, three days before Eternal Masters was announced, two weeks later it was over $100. Bummer, but that's life.

There's special cases. I sent a guy a foil Deathrite Shaman. Because I'm not a dumbass, I paid for tracking, and when it got lost in the Atlanta sorting center for A MONTH WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE, he and I messaged the admins who looked up the tracking number, saw that it was in limbo, credited me the points, and refunded his. He then got some other cards, then the Deathrite Shaman finally showed up, complete with shoeprints all over the package. Because he no longer had the points, the admin let him go into the negative. Very cool of him to be honest with the admins about it showing up.
What I've liked most about Pucatrade is that most traders have been totally cool about things. This dude was super chill about this card getting lost in the USPS *****show. There was another instance where I sent someone a bunch of shocks, and they kept bouncing between two sorting centers in Virginia, and he was annoyed with the USPS, because we both kept getting told "Alexandria is a black hole for lost mail", but he was totally cool with me.
I've only really dealt with one douchebag in the few years I've been using the site, so that's pretty great.
I've only really dealt with one douchebag in the few years I've been using the site, so that's pretty great.
I've encountered a decent number of pretty rude people; I have a list of really nice sealed stuff available and often get messages where people get really upset when they find out about my prices. Like, I've explained to you why they are the way they are and no, 100 PP isn't the same as a dollar. You're not going to get 25% off of TCG low from me. I also recently got a really snide, unnecessarily rude reply when I asked a guy if he would be willing to pay out a little extra for a signed card.
But when it comes to trades, everyone has been great. The worst I had was when I was waiting for an international package. I sent the sender a message after about a month asking what was up and he got an attitude with me, asking why I'd even accept international if I wasn't willing to wait. After a full month. Card came like two days later so everything was fine.
Currently dealing with a bit of a crisis. Mid February I sent out a whole stack of packages, but none of them made it. Two came back waterlogged to hell but I haven't heard anything about the others. This is the first time this has happened to me on the sending end, so I'm a little on tilt. Puca gave me the points on the two that were returned, but for the rest (all between 600-3000 PP) they've been pretty silent. They asked that I try to contact the post office about the missing packages, but all of my research on that says they don't have any kind of process for PWE (totally understandable). I contacted the admin e-mail 9 days ago with that info and they still haven't gotten back to me. Has anyone had experience with this kind of stuff?

With untracked mail, I don't think there is much you can do. I think that you have to hope that either the destination or the return address is legible and they turn up eventually. They few times I've had undeliverable mail returned, it took about a month. I suspect you will be partaking of the 100% guarantee.
Is puca normally really slow during spoiler season? I've sat around with enough points to get everything on my list and nothing has happened, but a month ago my list was getting eaten alive. It's got some staples, casual favorites, and other things people would normally want to get rid of for profit but still nothing. Some of the more random stuff (such as an Alpha Mons's Goblin Raiders) probably will never get off my want list, but it's weird when even random sideboard cards and staple lands aren't moving.
I had a bunch of random stuff on my list for awhile now and have yet to even get one card sent to me. I mentioned this awhile back in the thread, and as time goes on, I question if PucaTrade is as good of a platform as when I started using it.
I'm having a lot of problems getting any cards lately as well. I know everyone is playing the stock market game with Magic now, but I've never had so much trouble just getting Standard cards. I can understand having difficulty getting flip Liliana, I guess. I've had her on my list for almost 3 weeks, I think, and only had one sent to me, even when I was offering a bonus. But I can't even get a copy of Ojutai (barely anyone even wanting that card) or even cheaper cards like Hissing Quagmire. It's getting a little discouraging because I can't spend much money on Magic so pucatrade has been my main way to keep up with Standard for the past year or two.
I tried turning to this site, but the trade section of here is virtually dead too, so I'm just not having any luck getting any cards I want lately.
Deckbox has refreshed my trades recently, i've had decent luck there for stuff that isn't too obscure. I don't think pucatrade will last long because the experience has gotten worst due to how the system was inherently built and the administrators lack of progress on fixing the underlying issues.
I had a rough spate too recently, trying to get what I thought were some low-hanging fruits (a bunch of theros mythics, BfZ block rares and mythics, etc). I chalked it up to spoiler season doldrums, but when I shuffled some of my requests around (removed brimaz requests, and switched them over to theros gods), things got started moving again.
I wonder too if puca is in a bit of stasis until wizards moves on the eldrazi menace. If and when there's a ban on eyes and/or temples, I wonder if a lot of trades are going to get dislodged. I imagine folks are probably holding onto some modern cards in anticipation of certain archetypes returning to competitive status.
It goes in fits and starts for me. I've had uncommons that I expected to languish on my want list for a long time get sent almost immediately, and a Bitterblossom get sent pretty quickly as well. On the other hand I've been waiting a long time for Sword of Feast and Famine and several other wants.
I've noticed that since I have enough points for the cards I want I have no real incentive to continue sending cards out. I have one outgoing trade pending, and then after that I'm going to wait for a while. I wonder if there are a lot of people in that position, which then disincentivizes trading. People don't send, so people don't receive, so people don't send, and it becomes a dangerous negative feedback loop.
All of that said, I've been using Puca since the beta and it's always gone in cycles as far as I can tell.
I guess I kind of figured that right now would be the BEST time for trading. I realize people are reluctant to get rid of cards from Origins and DTK right now because Standard is about to get shaken up, but at the same time I kind of thought that everyone would be dumping cards right now to build up points so they can get all the new SOI cards as soon as people start cracking packs. At this rate I may have to drop out of Standard. SOI was just too awesome of a set. There are SO many cards in it I want and on top of that, there are still quite a few cards from DTK and Zendikar block that I need too.
I'm starting to lose faith in Pucatrade. At one time, I was able to get Bitterblossom, blood moons, and other high value cards. Now it seems harder and harder to even get $10 cards. I'm starting to feel that Pucatrade is good for EDH and other under $5 cards.
Everyone seems to be holding onto the mentality of, trade in janks for playables. So everyone turns in their jank, and holds everything worth more than $5. This was their huge selling point and everyone is holding onto those words.
I'd agree with that sentiment. I took an 8 month hiatus, and now that I'm back the community seems like a ton of PTSD folks burned by by non-nm trades, and people with hundreds of dollars in wants, with nothing budging.
There was a lot of concern about puca being a pyramid scheme, with the people that got out of it first profiting the most, and the people staying in it never being able to get out without "new bait." Since then, most people have decided to stop sending and just hope to be sent things, wanting out of puca. Older cards aren't really ever sent anymore. I'm expecting to see a lot of movement right after the prerelease, when people are unloading cards at exorbitant values, and then a whole lot of nothing.
If you've got puca points hoarded, I recommend unloading unless you plan on making lots of standard purchases. We're starting to see a massive decline in pp value, a significant decrease in valuable cards sent, and a decline in new members.
It's definitely getting frustrating. I wasn't having much issue getting anything I wanted until this year started. Before that, I could add almost any card printed during the Modern magic era to my want list and have someone send it to me right away, sometimes within seconds if it was a Standard want. I just can't believe I've had Ojutai on my want list for 5 days now and no one has sent me one yet, even when his price is currently wrong and listed as higher than his mid TCG player value. It'll be interesting to see how well SoI cards move this weekend.
I suspect the current drought in comparison to previous times is a result of multiple things all occurring at the same time. Firstly the change up in modern from the bannings and the subsequent rise of the eldrazi menace, and now the basic guarantee that something from that deck will be on the chopping block, and thusly leaving the format open once again for a rebalancing. The uncertainty of what is coming is likely leading to people to hold onto their modern staples to wait and see how things play out, and what the format will look like after next Monday.
For standard, you have a combination of the upcoming rotation of Khans "block", and the shakeup that is likely to have to the format, in addition to SoI adding to the mix and the wholesale potential change to the format that that could cause, so, once again, a lot of people are likely in a wait and see position, not wanting to offload things they may inevitably find out they will need once the format settles out post-SoI release.
For Legacy/Older formats you have the upcoming Eternal Masters, which is another boatload of uncertainty, and the effect on the decent reserved list cards, people are unlikely to wanting to dump those immediately and are likely waiting to decide what to get rid of until we have more information for what will be in Eternal Masters (because whatever is decent that ISNT reprinted, is likely to go up whether from normal increased demand, or from speculation on increased demand thanks to the effect of Eternal Masters.
This time of year is also tax time. For many that means a refund, and thusly they have cash to spend to get what they want, so instead of dealing with pucatrade they may just be buying what they want in the immediate term. For those who owe money, they are much more likely to try to sell their cards for cash to be able to help pay their tax bill, rather than sending them off for pucapoints as they may otherwise normally have done.
The final thing, and an ongoing concern, is that many people (not all, but most I would guess) that get involved with pucatrade are looking forward to the ability to offload cheaper stuff, in order to get up enough points to be able to get the more expensive stuff. The trouble with that is, eventually you end up in a logjam situation to where there are very few people offloading the more expensive stuff versus others who are sending out to accumulate points, and you end up with a bunch of people sitting on points waiting for the more valuable stuff to come available and the prospect of having to basically "wait in line" to be able to get it behind all the others who are also looking for the same cards.
Perhaps post SoI release, post banned/restricted announcement, once the formats begin to settle out, and inevitably post-Eternal Masters release as more information is available there and things also begin to settle out there accordingly that things will begin to improve for pucatrade card movement. So whether its within the next couple weeks, or within the next couple months, hopefully things will pick back up soon enough. If not, then that's certainly not a good sign for the future, but we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.
Currently dealing with a bit of a crisis. Mid February I sent out a whole stack of packages, but none of them made it. Two came back waterlogged to hell but I haven't heard anything about the others. Yeah, I doubt there's much they can do about a PWE, other than cross their fingers with you.
I had a similar stretch at the end of Jan / start of Feb here in Australia - I suspect it was due to Australia Post changing the way it handled snail mail (they're now losing money on letter delivery, so they've jacked the stamp prices up, and are only delivering to letterboxes three days a week). As all this came in, my Puca packages all suddenly felt like they'd got stuck in the mud. I had one take more than a fortnight to make it from Perth to Sydney (normally a three-day effort), another take more than four weeks to the UK (instead of the usual 8-10 days), and I've still got another one out there on the way to the UK now (it's currently just ticked over two months... I suspect they've sent it sea mail by mistake, which means it's got another month out in the aether before it appears... thank goodness my trade partner is easy going!)... ain't it funny how our postal services have bad stretches like this. Makes a brother want to start his own.
I was having a drought, but once I started offering bounties, that changed. I have about a dozen cards inbound now. A year ago, bounties weren't necessary, but now they seem to be mandatory if you want higher-value stuff or if you want something that 500 other people have on their Wants list.
I could be wrong, but wont it only show wants that they actually have the points for? Or am I thinking of something else like that with pucatrade? Basically wondering if perhaps he ended up running out of points or something, or maybe he could just be on vacation or something and yanked down the list for the time being. Hard to say really.
