So, SCG has preorders up for KTK. I have some questions as to whether certain cards are worth it.
End Hostilities at $4? Good or bad? I feel like this card will become a control staple and will likely rise to around $6. But then again, I only think that will be a thing of necessity - I don't think the card is very good...
Sidisi, Brood Tyrant at $6? I think I'm going to pick up at least one, because $6 feels low for a card that can potentially be very powerful. Also, I want her for EDH.
For the most part, cards are overpriced at preorder/release with the exception of sleepers. It's pretty clear what End Hostilities is good for, and with the fetches being printed here, I think plenty will be printed to bring the price down. Sidisi is a slightly better investment as it can be used as a commander, but I expect this one to come down too as her ability makes incremental mill better than large mill, which is harder to do effectively in EDH.
Yeah, with the fetches in the set, it will be opened heavily, which will drive down the price of any card that isn't in ultra-high demand. End Hostilities (I just saw it for the first time... sounds like I need to make a visit to the Rumor Mill!) looks pretty good, but unless it finds a top tier deck to appear in, it will probably drift lower until the set goes out of print.
The people in this thread are right on. The fetches will assume a large portion of the value in a box (say, 3 fetches per box avg at $10-15 per, initially?) Everything else should sink pretty low to compensate, especially if Sarkhan is any good. If everything is worth a ton, people will just start cracking boxes for ~$90.
At second glance, unless she finds a Tier-1 deck, Sidiri might drop pretty hard. It'll entirely depend on the rest of the cards in the set supporting her, but if you look at the gods, even they for what they were dropped like rocks for the most part (exception being Thassa). If you want her for EDH like you said though, then $6 isn't a terrible price to pick her up at...it's not fall to far, even if she were to drop to $1 and you'd be kicking yourself if she happened to go up. I am curious though whether End Hostilities suggests we might be going back to Mirrodin in the next two blocks (probably the second one from now, with the new rotation schedule) or if there will be another set with some powerful equipment.
I could see that. I think he'd be heavily reliant on Mardu performing well and aggressively, since the +1 ability would help them be more aggressive while staying alive.
Similar thing happened with RTR, preorder prices and, prices at launch were pretty high. They ended up going down fairly quick, but there were cards that were guaranteed sellers (shocks) with the rest of the set looking decent (turns out a lot of cards were better than decent)
Unless you need the cards to play with right away or can unload them quickly to recoup money off of preorder and release hype, I would just wait to buy. Set will be printed like crazy and you will be able to find boxes under $100 again by the end of the year.
Whoops, guess I meant release. The cards won't be useable until then outside of edh anyway. Either way, isn't there supposed to be a set price when you're doing buy-a-box?
Depends on where you buy from. Technically the MSRP for a box is 143.64 but when you buy a whole box places will always give you a discount unless the box is out of print or something along those lines. Box price varies from store to store. I think my LGS takes preorders for 105 + tax now or something but I can't remember would have to check since I haven't preordered a box in years or bought a box for that matter.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
What are we looking at as Sarkhan's value once he's released? I've seen numerous preorders at $19.99, worth picking up now? Not sure what to make of him since a ton of Khans product will be opened, so I don't see a $40 tag ala Nissa, but he's a very powerful card that should be in pretty high demand.
The whole set is worth nothing because of fetchlands. That's just how it is.
The market is going to be absolutely flooded with this set. Non-standard players are going to be buying fetches off the singles market which means the singles sellers need to open more products.

Unless you need them for early competition, your chance of winning that gamble is something like 5% or less. The vast majority of preorder singles end up being losers. Only a handful have been successful - New Nissa, Big Jace, Bonfire, Sphinx's Rev, Thundermaw Hellkite, etc. The list might look kind of big, but you've got to realize that every other rare and mythic besides these handful has fallen post-release. I caution against preorders unless you're really feeling lucky.
Yeah, Nissa spiked because no one wants to crack M15 boxes. The same will not be true of Khans- look at how Lotus Cobra just feel and fell last year.
Lotus Cobra? Surely you don't mean that card, because (a) it didn't "feel and fell" last year, and (b) it hasn't been in Standard for a few years.
I meant during the year following the release of Zendikar, obviously, which was very much a set where the non-duals weren't worth a whole hell of a lot.
I'm looking to pick up a foil of the new omni-clone and probably the top-8 utter end, when would be a good time to do so? The omni-clone I'm especially unsure of as it's an instant EDH and cube staple, possibly modern or legacy too so its price will probably be high for a while, right?
Based on SCG's pre-order prices at this moment, they have an EV of $138.77 for a box of KTK, and that's not counting
a) Foils
b) 4 Mythics
c) 18 Rares
d) 62 Uncommons
e) 93 Commons
Hmmm... Considering you can pre-order a box for $109.99 from SCG, I think they've got the fetches a little too high, there. They count for almost half of the EV ($68.32).

Any other cards that people see as good pickups at the current prices? Here's the link: http://sales.starcitygames.com//category.php?cat=5291

.
If singles prices don't settle down quick enough just buy booster boxes and crack cards worth more than the box.

I'm a bit surprised to see it pre-selling for $1 on SCG.
It's worse than Reverberate, which also never amounted to much. It's too much of a win-more card. It's bulk.
I just looked at ebay Saturday afternoon and saw $540 for a case - turned my back for a sec and this morning the cheapest I can find is $600. Ugh.

Nope. Stores are not allowed to sell any product at prereleases.
