My local Wal-Mart just pulled all Magic the Gathering products. ALL of them during easter. I thought it was just temporary, but the store manager told me they sent them away and no restock was coming. I thought it was just my Wal-Mart, but during my trip to Corpus Christi; they were doing the same thing.

Anyone else see their walmarts pulling MTG without even putting them clearance?
I usually buy a pack or 2 when I get fuel there. WTF!

Its possible those stores decided that the amount of theft they were having from those products was no longer worth it for them to keep stocked, so they opted simply to send the product back and call it good for MTG products at least. I've known stores in the past that have done similar things after they did an analysis on various products and realized some they were losing money on due to returns or theft or whatever else and simply decided it was easier just to not carry it. Kind of a bummer, but cant really blame them if that was the case.
Wal-Mart is stocked by individual suppliers so what likely occurred is that the Wal-Marts you visited were supplied by the same vendor who decided to no longer operate in that area, or Wal-Mart terminated their contract with that individual supplier.
One Walmart in my area pulled all Magic products (and all CCGs and sports cards) about a month ago. Sleeves and top-loaders are still for sale.
Another one just got in a new set of Commander 2013 decks and Jace vs. Vraska within the last two weeks, so it doesn't seem like it is happening to every Walmart.
My local walmart (Fremont, OH) completely changed their display this week after pulling everything last week so maybe it's a new presentation Walmart is setting up. I know they are stocked by middlemen but maybe it's a walmart decision? I doubt they are pulling the cards unless theft is rampant. I'd just give them a week or so and see if they're back.
My local walmart has pulled almost all it's MTG product, other ccg's are still there though. The target down the road though is constantly getting new stock in though.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
My wal mart pulled mtg last year. Between theft and ppl saying wrong prices for products it wasn't worth them to have it. Ppl would bring boxes up and say they were in a 2.99 spot and the cashier would just change it. Or ppl would open packs, take money rares/uncommons and return them.
Actually a lot of things some ppl suggested doing on salvation. So those practices are ruining it for everyone

How in the world does that work? Are the Wal-mart employees blind? How do you open a pack and then return it? If people are getting away with it then Walmart needs to seriously train their "return workers" better.
It's those two specific stores. I checked ~15 stores in the San Antonio area last week & found seven Mind Seize decks. This is probably Beckett/Crossmark pulling a high theft product out of two high-shrink stores; when I worked for Walmart (a long friggin time ago), I remember seeing articles in the company magazine saying that Corpus Christi was one of the top five high shrink locations in the US & it wouldn't surprise me that MTG stuff would get hit horribly by that.
What you will find, though, is as the "192" class supercenters (90% of the stores in US and Canadian mid-size to large cities are this class) rearrange their front areas to match their current designs, cards will get moved from the center area to a wall on the back side of the self-check area.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):

Wal-Mart also punishes Corpus Christi for it. The quality of fruits, veges, meats, and bakery are horrid. They are also very slow to restock. It damn near took a week to restock acid reducers. It would be nice if HEB carried MTG as I buy more gas there for my gasoline truck. I usually buy diesel from walmart. Getting a pack reduces my anger for spending a $100 to fill up.

Because your average Wal Mart employee either doesn't know what cards were taken or simply doesn't care.

It's very easy to game the system when the people who are supposed to act as safeguards are apathetic. While they obviously should notice if money cards are missing from returned product, and put a stop to the return attempt, the fact is that a lot don't, leading to all kinds of ugly situations that should have been avoided.
Plus, you know, if it's store policy that you can accept returns for other opened products (open something, find it doesn't work, return it, etc), then it gets even easier because that same apathy lends itself to keeping from learning what products shouldn't be returnable if opened.
I guess I could halfway understand someone returning an intro deck with the two booster packs say "missing", but for people to return opened booster packs in exchange for unopened . . . I'm not sure I have the words. I mean sure its blatant stealing and the person doing it should be ashamed, but Walmart's employees should know or be trained better as well.

They don't care. Magic product is set up and stocked by a third party vendor who rents space from Walmart. When product sells, Walmart takes their cut & the vendor gets paid. When product gets stolen or fraudulently returned, the vendor eats it and pays Walmart some percentage of the price of the product. Walmart isn't out anything when packs get screwed with, so 99% of Walmart employees don't give a damn what happens to packs.

Both of my Wal-Marts removed stock. Months later they showed up at one by self-checkout (really nice display) and in the other they are spread out over a few checkout lanes (not so good selection).
