A friend was looking through my old MTG collection and pulled out a Foil Polluted Delta (Onslaught). Told me to hard cover protect it asap and see if anyone would like to buy it.
I have given it a UV protective case, but am finding a hard time understanding how best to trade it, as I live in NZ.
I've attached a pic of it in its sleeve...
It has no discernible scratches, indentations or blemishes; except for a tiny, white scuff mark (about the size of 1/2 a pin head) on a corner of the reverse side. It has potentially seen one hours worth of sunlight in it's lifetime, total.
I don't think I have much chance of finding a buyer locally. How best can I go about selling a card like this?
I guess the best way is probably here, eBay, or Magic Online Traders League (MOTL). Since you haven't used any of them before, you probably will be expected to send first, the value is high enough that most people wont trust a first time seller. Another option is third party, both buyer and seller send to a third party you verifies the exchange and sends it in its way.
You will probably want to send registered mail, and use insurance. I would be wary selling to anyone who asks to lie on the customs forms, you can't insure for more than what you declare the value.
With eBay you will have a crapshoot. People are always running scams, and if you are a new seller your auction probably wont get high since people will think you are a scammer. Your best bet to get value is to sell at a percent off SCG and list as Buy it Now.
In amy case, make sure to not feel pressured into the sale. If a buyer seems fishy or you don't like them, don't sell. There are always cases of people running off with others cards on all three sites. Try to only sell to someone with lots of feedback, but even then watch out.

Selling here, you can use a third party trader. Pick someone who's respected by the community, has a lot of post, etc. I've had good luck with it here.
My question is, are you in a rush to sell? You may be able to build up a reputation by selling other cards, and then after listing for a few months (either here or on eBay or whatever), you're more of a known quantity. You'll be taken more seriously, and people will be more likely to bid/offer on it.
(also, I don't know if you still play the game or not, since you mentioned your "old MTG collection", but if you contact a vendor such as SCG or CFB, they'll give you either cash, or store credit, usually store credit gets you 10% more)
That's a very nice card, best of luck selling it.

If you don't actually play magic anymore, I'd suggest two things: sell the lower value stuff first to build a reputation and get some feedback. Or, sell the entire collection at once, showcasing the foil and stating the era the collection is from to establish legitimacy. If I was a new user with just one post, I would not trade/sell anything high value without some form of protection, such as through ebay, or a mediator.
Nice, that is some really great advice guys. I appreciate it.

Nah not so much. The cards have been sitting on my shelf for 10 years already... Though I am still trying to figure out if I can somehow monitor whether the card is fluctuating in value, so that I might use this information to choose when to sell (or if to sell urgently).

That's a great tip. I'll keep that in mind. We don't have anything like that here in NZ (that I know of).

This sounds the most appealing to me.
Having you all mention that I will need to inherit some reputability (through trading or a 3rd party), is very insightful. I hadn't considered it, and now I can imagine many aspects in which a trade can go awry. As a result, I've been looking for some sort of guide on trading etiquette - something that will suggest how best to preview (photograph), package & ship cards. Do you have any suggestions?
I think I know a dealer in NZ who will be interested in buying the foil delta, except he's going to be in GP Nagoya. Trademe will be a good place to gauge interest.
