So as of right now Im trying to trade off my legacy, standard stuff into bulk rares which I can then offload to vendors/people for x price.
My wondering right now is that I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is worth more than bulk rates, [like buylist prices] quickly. That way I get a fair price and they get more out of their cards without feeling like they just got jipped.
Is this more like just memorize everything thats freaking under a dollar and work from there or is there actually a way to do this? As question for better common/uncommons like bolts and dismembers.
Theres a lot of magic cards out there, so Im not sure if memorizing everything is great...
Guess as a side questions, how do the vendors do it, so that they just pull crap out of binders and put them in their values slots so easily?
Sadly I can't give you too much advice, but my personal experience from selling to multiple buylists for 3 years has given me a good idea of what worthwhile rares pass off as "bulk." The key here is that most of these derive value from casual demand, and hence, are things casual players love! Stuff like Myr Matrix or Field Marshal. These may be extreme examples (worth a decent buck) but do prove my point: these are cards tournament players wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, and hence, aren't often known as being worth anything.
Then i went to TCGplayer.com and did a search for all rares in X set, priced highest to lowest. Then I pulled out whatever was selling for more than the bargain basement prices, found a lot of interesting cards that way.
Its an interesting move. I can see people happily trading bulk at 10 cents against full scg prices for your good stuff. Might net you 30% vs selling the staples outright. Plus you can hit the slightly better stuff. That said, you need to do your homework, and the money has to be worth the legwork.
The way I did this was look at the sell prices. You'll notice on a site that all real bulk rares, whether it be vizzerdrix, conjured currency, or deathlace, are priced at $.49, but all have the generic buylist price of 10 cents. Now the almost-bulk rares will have a selling price on these sites of like .79 or .99 (look at Born of the Gods and you'll see this), but have the same buylist price of 10 cents. This is mostly because of supply and demand, and the fact that it's not really worth people times to go through a couple hundred rares to try and make an extra five dollars so they can buy a cheeseburger, but a vendor can't sell cards that have some casual demand for the same price as cards that don't.

I know some stuff is worth more than bulk and hence I want to give them fair value like .25, .50. Example: Lightning bolts: Worth 1.50 ish? I wouldn't trade into it at all, but I would bulk it out at say 50 cents each.

It's not fool proof, but it's quick and easy.
I do like that idea. Set and color isn't too bad, but if Im doing it buylist version afterwards they need to be in alphabetical order. Maybe this will save me time in the long run.
I'm curious why you're going to all this trouble rather than simply buylist the stuff you intend to trade for bulk?
Simply because I can trade in bulk at a certain price. Say someone give me 100 bulk rares at 10 cents each for my 10 dollar card.
If I tried to sell the 10 dollar card to shop for buylist they give me 5 dollars
If I tried to sell the 100 bulk rares to them for 10 cents each, they give me 10 dollars. More for trade in.
And this is low end.

True because time = money. But honestly it isn't that much work once I get everything set up. Problem is listing the non-"bulks" out and that takes a lot of time....
A few years back in Japan I traded my hot legacy and type 2 cards for English bulk rares at 7 cents each. I studied two or three buylist and sold enough cards to buy more cards that the shops wanted to keep this process going. Brought back a suitcase full of junk rares to the States and sold them for 14 cents. Kept a lot of crap rares that seemed interesting.. like Mana Reflection. Recently sold a few for $12.00 a pop to a buylist. I kept a bunch of Daybreak Coronet because I thought the dude on the card looks like Jesus. I didn't have the heart to bulk off Jesus. I am now thanking the lord every time I turn one into $25.

My current trade thread.
Rancored Elf will cancel your order if prices go up. Read about him and other shady vendors here.

I will say a big part of making semi-bulk valuable is NM condition.
