Anyone know what's up the the Jace, Vryn's Prodigy spike? Went from $12 to $20 yesterday, and I can only guess people have been doing heavy Standard brewing. Still, though he is good imo, he's not $20 good.

Chandra moving too though a little slower but +$3 on eBay and tcgplayer in the last week. I think there's a ton of untapped potential with all 5 walkers. I know after playing with Chandra, my mind was blown on how easy she was to flip (& how much damage she does for 3cc but that's another topic :P)... I'm sure there's lots of other small things for the other walkers that will be discovered so then it just becomes a matter of where they fit in said deck/meta.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
So any clue why Obelisk of Urd spiked to over double it's price? I mean it showed up in one of the three goblin lists that made day 2 in the scg open this weekend but it ended in 39th place as opposed to the 18th and 24th place finishes of it's non Obelisk counterparts. I have playtested it and dropped it because it was only good in grindy ground pounding matchups and magmatic chasm, heelcutter, and even break through the lines have all performed better by impacting the game sooner and not taking a whole turn to cast (attackers lands and all). I would have thought jace, Exquisite Firecraft, or even rally the ancestors to spike before Obelisk.

Tribal is being tried. Doesn't matter if it's tier 1, casuals love playing Goblins or Elves. Plus look at what else you need to play those decks - very cheap cards. No reason why Obelisk wouldn't spike.
I tried UW Thopter control. I think that deck is going to be real until Zendikar arrives.
UW Thopter control runs 2x Spy Network and none of these other cards. The real card we should be watching is Hangarback Walker. It's already up quite a bit from it's pre-release order price. It's a very, very, very good card.
edit: Nevermind, Hangarback Walker has already exploded. It's up to $7 on tcglow, although it looks like a mob came through and bought up most of the copies.
Origins is an interesting set but it's not powerful with Theros/M15 block in rotation.
We're probably not going to see many cards explode in value as a lot of cards started high. The old planeswalker = broken ingrained mentality needs to stop but I don't think it will. Narset and Sarkhan have set a worrying trend that I don't intend to get caught up in.
Am I misreading this or did the Origins printing of Mahamoti Djinn just skyrocket to $10? (TCG mid)
I know that it is one of the rares that only shows up in supplemental stuff and not in the boosters, but are completionists really diving up the price that much?
It doesn't matter if you finish a set today or in 2 months. The amount of people that actually want to collect those cards would be very small.
Turns out the new Jace is very good. I played against UB control last night and I had to try to kill it before my opponent untapped or else he would have got to cast an extra Dig Through Time and bury me under card advantage.
I have played against it a couple of times and it has been good both times. It's funny how you get an appreciation of cards when you're getting wrecked by them
The ceiling very much depends on what Nissa and Liliana do though. I don't think the set can support 3 walkers of $25+.

I'm still a little perplexed why everyone thinks that he is so good. I've rebounded a Dig Through Time with Narset several times, often twice in the same game, and she sees next to no play. And Narset doesn't even make you jump through any hoops to get her on the field as a walker. Ah whatever, who knows what causes some cards to see play over others.

It costs 2 mana. Narset costs 4. Welcome to MTG. Mana efficiency is EVERYTHING.
Narset doesn't give you guaranteed access to cards when you have run out of spells and even if you want to double a spell the timing restriction is pretty rough. The difference between boardwhiping and then doing it again during your upkeep and boardwhiping and then doing it again at will once your opponent plays more threads, is huge. While jace isn't a snapcaster mage he essentially fills the same role by turning your graveyard into a toolbox so that you always have an answer to your opponents threats. The main differences are that he isn't very good for counter spells and can be disrupted and that the 2 mana to cast him and the mana for the spell are payed on different turns allowing you to flash back more expensive high impact spells. I think people are having a hard time evaluating jace because we've never seen such a versatile minus on a walker before. Honestly in most cases he is more comparable to vraska than narset in my opinion.

Thopter Spy Network has made some small gains over the weekend. I'm not sure how much it can spike given the set just came out.

Was there ever any doubt? There were soooooo many copies at SCG last weekend... and Opens are known for their VERY slow/reluctant innovation.
But yeah, think dealers were paying close to $30 at GP this weekend for Jace.
