I bought four packs of MM2015 and pulled a green mythic. Since I'm mostly everyone's friend here in this thread, I advise you not to pick up packs of MM2015. For everyone else though, KEEP CRACKING PACKS!!! I need you to drop Goyf some more. >: D
Primeval Titan. Meh. I'm going to meet a fellow MTGS member tomorrow for some games of Legacy. I'm not going to thrash him with Burn, so I'm just going to bring my Zombardment deck.
I opened the fabled mythic + foil mythic pack in draft yesterday... unfortunately the nonfoil was Comet Storm.
I mean, it would have been great in my draft deck, but I can't complain.
I did a release day draft. I opened complete chaff - I first-picked a Wrecking Ball over the rare or the foil in the first pack. Second pack was also horrible, so I took the nonfoil Savage Twister. Third pack at least had a playable rare in limited - Hellkite Charger. I think that the most valuable card I managed to draft was a foil Gut Shot.
Meanwhile, the guy next to me opened a foil Iona and a Mox Opal in his first pack, and laughed all the way to the bank.

Anyone here at GP: LV? I know there were three thousand five hundred and fifty one in Chiba and three thousand six hundred and thirteen in Utretch. Not sure about LV yet.
Welp, just registered for GP Charlotte. I was just gonna go and do some buying/selling/trading, but then....dat Noble Hierarch playmat tho. So I figured the cheapest route (since the mat will probably be selling at like $40) was to go ahead and play in the main event and get the Grislebrand and all. I don't even have a Modern deck assembled...lol. I will probably play something silly, I am strongly considering Mono Green Stompy for the lulz. I could also play Bogles if I went ahead and bought 4x Daybreak Coronet now that it has been reprinted, but it would be suboptimal as I don't own Leyline of Sanctity for the board or Horizon Canopy. Budget U/R Delver is also an option. Any advice or comical ideas are most welcome.

I'm planning to do the same for GP Pittsburgh in November. My go-to modern deck was pod, and I have the cards to build the Wilt Leaf Liege or Collected Company Abzan decks but no real interest. I do have GR Tron but I don't think I want to play that in a long tournament as the games are too linear and boring for my liking.

And yeah, I could probably throw together Burn, or Infect or something else, but I don't really have the interest. I have the cards for them, just not really excited by either at the moment. Also, scratch Bogles too, for the same reasons, I find it a little too linear and boring. I could even play something like Grixis Delver, but even that is unappealing. I feel like the more serious a deck I take, the more seriously I am going to take the event, and I just really could care less for all of that. I have played exactly 0 Modern in the past year, I watch the metagame somewhat, but I am certainly no Modern aficionado, so my chances are pretty nil anyway...lol. I figure by round three I will be statistically eliminated from making day 2 and can drop happily.
My first Tarmogoyf ever came in today. Incredibly underwhelming. I dunno, maybe I'm losing my love for this game. Or, maybe it's because I consider it SP instead of NM?

Yeah, Goyf really isn't anything to me. It's just crucial for the deck it goes in that I'm building. I wish there were an alternative, but I don't have a choice but to fork over six to seven hundred dollars for the cards. It could also be that I need to fork over even more to finish the deck.
It's completely different when you are playing the Goyf instead of getting your hands on it. Playing turn two 4/5 does feel really good, while looking at a 0/1 two mana dork doesn't.
And since I'm posting here, here's my story how I got my last Goyf (Long ago...)
Nationals 2007, Future Sight was the newest set just out and I was doing coverage for the tournament (or judging, cannot rememeber anymore). After day one we held the national champs for 'Taitis,' a variant of pack wars. This is pretty old tradition, going back to nationals 2002. All players purchase 5 packs, open them and shuffle the cards together without looking at them and flip the top card up. Person with the highest CMC wins the cards. Basic lands have point value betwen 1 and 6, which is determined by rolling a die. In case of ties the losers put one card in face down and the players still in play normally. This can keep going for some time. The person with most cards after all cards are divided is the national champion for the year. The game works best with 4-6 players, but this time we had 7, so lots of ties. Outside nationals people usually play with less packs.
Out of 75 rounds I won one. It was pretty late into the packs and I had been loosing, and loosing. Mostly I had been flipping low CMC cards to ties, so I had flipped away lot of my stack blindly. It always feels like you are getting the bad part of variance when you flip up 1 CMC, flip two or three hidden cards and then hit another 1 when you have a chance to play an open card. Naturally the sets then had low CMC all over the place, so it wasn't that unlikely either.
But anyway. I was third in line to flip my card and managed to hit a five, my second out of maybe 50 cards. People before me had flipped low CMC cards and before I noticed the last guy flipped a three. I had won one round... I went on to loose all the following rounds too and when we checked the cards I noticed I had one two mana rare in my small pile of seven cards. And it was a 10$ card that I only had three yet. So I was as happy as somebody opening five boosters but getting only seven cards out of them could be.
Naturally I could have bought a large pile of them at 10$ and be even better off, but anyway, I got my last Goyf from taitis and have been playing the set ever since, whenever the deck calls for dumb beaters.
I have also posted earlier how I opened a foil Goyf from MMa somewhere on this site, but that's a different story. Just to recap it involved a sniffer of fourty year old cognac, leftover boosters after few six man money drafts and kids being off at our summer cabin. It was also most likely the biggest financial hit I had taken by opening sealed products... I ended up collecting a foil set of MMa, which did limit what else I could get at the time, so I missed out on several other really good deals. (First World problems)

On the plus side though, getting Goyf is likely the largest financial hurdle (if you already have the required duals) to getting into several decks. I am sitting on all of the cards for several decks where I am just missing Goyf. This includes Modern as well, though I am not sure how much the format interests you. Also, once you have 'em, you have 'em and don't have to worry about it again, right? Hopefully I helped...but probably not :/ hang in there, man.

Well, since it seems to be MTGS Storytime ...
I have opened exactly one 'Goyf. I had bought a box of MMA, and my friends and I were drafting it. I was in R/G Dinosaurs (rawr!) pack one, so as I cracked pack two and started flipping through, I was looking at the Imperiosaurs, Thundering Giants, that sort of thing. I got to the back of the pack, and saw the 'Goyf staring back and me, and it was a little stunning. Honestly, the nearest comparison that I can make is to the time that my lab partner (this is true) electrocuted me in one of my Physics classes: I couldn't move and my heart skipped a beat. Fortunately, this episode didn't last nearly as long.
Since we weren't drafting for keeps, I considered the other cards in the pack, but then decided that I was in the archetype anyway, so I'd throw him in my deck and see how he worked. I knew that it was probably going to be my only chance to play with one, since the first two FS copies I'd traded for had been stolen. It was kind of cool playing with him, although every game he landed he got removed almost immediately. Still, that was one less piece of removal to hit one of my other big creatures. So I ended up pretty happy with the experience, and it made me feel a lot better about Modern Masters.

Ah yeah, well at least stuff like Polluted Delta isn't $90-$100 anymore. That was a big hindrance for me trying to build Shardless awhile back. I still don't have the Goyfs, and I have no idea when and if I ever will.
On another note, I traded my Cunning Wishes for like, $5-$6 in trade value on here. Now I get to sit back and cry because they are like $25 now. The same thing happened to me with Glittering Wish. I sat on both forever thinking "These are good cards, they are bound to end up worth more than this" and it never happened....until after I finally traded them. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
Additionally, I am torn now between playing Travis Woo's red deck, or playing something a little less glass cannon-ny for the GP like UR Delver Fiend as another budget option. I am really leaning toward to protection that blue offers to avoid getting blown out by removal.
EDIT: Tom Ross on Soul Sisters at the Modern Open this weekend.... #wut
I didn't even know Tom was at GP Charlotte, I just got home last night. I guess I should have checked the SCG site at some point to see his deck tech and realize he was there, I kept checking his twitter to see if he made mention of the event and he hadn't so I assumed he didn't come. I hadn't heard him announced as a feature match or anything either. Oh well, at least I met him already at the Richmond Invitational.
I did, however, catch up with both LSV and Kenji Egashira for pictures, signatures, etc etc. Kenji was the coolest guy in the world, LSV seemed like he was having a bad day and after reading his tweets, it seems that this was indeed the case.
Opened exactly one pack of MM2015 and cracked a Goyf, I kid you not. Finally got my Noble Hierarchs.
Went 0-2 drop in the Main Event playing UR Delver Fiend Cyclops Assault Strobe Party because hey, it won a daily once? Played Affinity and UWR Delver (this was a sort of aggro control build that was pretty cool, different than any I have seen). Got dismantled by Affinity so badly....so badly.
Got cards signed by everyone except Clint Cearley. Got my GP Richmond mat signed by Terese Nielson, as well as several cards. Her signature has changed a bit from older signatures of hers that I have. Soooo many rk Post tokens....so many.
I'm sure there is more that I am not remembering, but alas, there it is.

Sounds like a pretty eventful weekend for you. If you haven't already, pick up a lottery ticket since you opened Goyf. Don't forget me if you win though. I'm the one who encouraged you to do so.
I've never really liked Terese Nielson's art. Am I a criminal? I don't think it's bad, but it doesn't appeal to me. I get why people like her stuff, but it's not my favorite work. LSV was destroyed on cam, and I'm fairly certain Tom just wanted to beat up Burn, judging by his deck tech interview and sac'd his chances of placing high just to do it. He's the type of person why I like playing Burn, unfortunately. I didn't think he was a person who would be so on tilt over something like that.
Did you hear about Kenji? He opened a foil Goyf! >_<

Terese has a pretty unique style, but no, I wouldn't say you are criminal for not being a big fan. I actually like her newer art (Swords to Plowshares, Mother of Runes) over alot of older stuff (Choke, Nimble Mongoose. However, Force of Will is pretty great. I had a couple extras (first world problems, right?) that were a little beat up so I took them and had her sign them.

I was ok with trading my SCMs at fifty, until I read this.
I may just buy a ticket, and no worries, I won't forget about you...lol.
Yeah, I saw the foil Goyf post on Kenji's twitter this morning, pretty wild.
