Pile A. Windswept Heath is about on par with the blue fetches right now because of the demand for cards to build Abzan decks. That Rattleclaw promo is still worth $5-$6.
He insisted on me trading up since blue fetches will be worth more than nonblue ones later on.
You should never trade on the potential value on non-reserved list cards. You'll be able to get Flooded Strand for close to $10 in the next 12 months.
Completely agree. As an example, back in Jan./Feb. I was in the market for Foil Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. One guy offered me his for two of my Theros Thoughtseizes. His impression was that it was going to go down even more than what it was at the time and wanted me to trade according to his predictions (it was around $16 then and he figured it would go down to $10). I disagreed and told him that the unknown potential of a card doesn't equal what it's at now. As for where these cards are at today you can see he was quite off in his forecast.
Potential value can be such an ambiguous thing since you never know what will come up in the future (new sets, bannings, etc.). It's always something to consider and you'll win some and lose some, but current values are where it's at.
I would keep the Colonnade here. It's recovered from its earlier high, but it's still around $20. Bloodstained Mire is going to stay around $10 for the near future.

At the present time, I would stick to trading Standard stuff for fetches while you can. Just my thought.

+1 Roland does 1 damage to up to 6 target creatures, players or plainswalkers.
-2 Roland twirls a bullet casing. Tap all opponents creatures.
-11 Reset life totals to 20 x the number of activations of this ability. Begin a new game shuffling all cards into owners decks except for Roland who remains in play.

That is if he can. Many players, including myself, are not willing to trade fetches (even new ones) for other Standard staples. After all, the fetches are legal in most other formats too while the other Standard cards are just unplayable. (Treasure Cruise notwithstanding of course.)

I like the Fountains here. They're as low as they're going to get barring another mass reprint, while the Khans fetches will continue to drop as more product gets opened.

You guys are fast. I was going to edit in another one but as you've already responded I'll just post again.

This one is a lot closer. All of the cards involved are in short supply and relatively similar amounts of demand. There's a small value advantage in pile A (maybe a dollar or two) if you want to nitpick, but it's close enough that I'd take whichever pile is more useful to you to construct your decks. If you're just looking to gain value, you should take pile A... but the gain really is incremental.

Thanks a lot, that's just the kind of feedback that's helpful to me. (No sarcasm, it really does help.)
How about (A) 2x Birthing Pod vs. (B) 2x GTC Watery Grave? Same boat then, or is one of them clearly better than the other, this time?

Birthing Pod was in an event deck, I believe, so there are a lot more floating around. Watery Grave is a decent spec since Esper/Grixis might break out since their manabase was improved, plus it fits in any UB EDH deck.
I'm getting the feeling that the lands (at least the shocks, maybe not so much the fetch?) are pretty much always a good pick right now as long as the $$ values are pretty close, but I'm never sure when something else is on the same level.
Vendilion clique by far. Just going by full retail pile A vastly exceeds pile B ($80 vs. $54.) Not to mention it's a modern staple versus some cards that while playable in modern are being traded up and don't equal the value of the card in question (clique.) You could throw in another keranos and I'd still take clique.

Lands are pretty much always a good pickup. Shocks, Fetches, and Revised Duals are almost infinitely useful. KTK fetches are on a downswing now, since they're being printed and opened in mass amounts, but they're never a *bad* thing to pick up.

Down by ~$25 here, and the Diamond Valley is in very good condition. Was the trade up premium of 25 worth it here?
I would say so. Your trade is half chaff, half good stuff, and the good stuff can easily be reprinted and tank its value. I mean, look at Windswept Heath. Six months ago it was how much, and now it's in the teens and still dropping? I think that you came out ahead on this one (or at least even, and in a good position to take the lead).
Bottom line, I would have taken Pile B.

Traded for the foil. Looking to complete regular sets of nonfoil ktk fetches
If you're looking to complete a nonfoil set, I wouldn't trade five for one foil fetch. I think having five in hand is better than a shiny one in the binder.
