Need opinions on this trade. Thought I may have done this too hastily, but wasn't sure.
Thanks!
Pile A: (Giving)
Jace, The Mind Sculptor
Pile B: (Getting)
Tamiyo, The Moon Sage
Liliana of the Veil
Liliana of the Dark Realms (x2)
Snapcaster Mage
thats absolutely terrible. just reading that makes me feel like i was ripped off.
apart from the fact that both those piles are basically even on price, when jtms will never be reprinted and can only go up, theres also the fact that liliana of the dark realms is a terrible card and most of the pile B cards are only playable in standard.
I would never play any of these cards but strictly from a collector stand point would you rather have the iconic Black Lotus or 2 of the best blue cards ever printed, JTMS aside?

Look at my name...what did you expect?
Thank you WOTC for introducing the Modern format, a format where all the whiners can enjoy a level playing field and where they can play with none of the best cards of all time!
Tough call - As far as only price is concerned, I'd say they're roughly equal - the Walk and Recall are both in the 650-700 range, and Lotus is right around 1350-1450.
I'd say to go with the Lotus from a collector's perspective because of the iconography and the allure of owning the "best card ever printed".

In summation.....Star Trek wins a prolonged naval battle against superior, yet less technologically advanced, numbers, with Picard leading the assault, while Kirk takes your soul by laying out Solo and probably his manservant Chewy as well, before impregnating and ditching your Princess.
I would personally have the two blue ones in terms of I would be looking to play them rather than just collect. But Lotus would be a nice centerpiece of a collection.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
Trade #1, I'd take pile A. Snappies are awesome, but Silverblades jumped up quite a bit, and you're overtrading. Olivia almost goes 1 for 1 with a snapcaster anyways.
Trade #2, It's pretty much equal Angel of Serenity for 2x Resto. The dreadbore is not needed.

A lot of people, myself included, think that Ancestral Recall is the best card ever printed. I would choose Walk + Recall because I collect blue cards, but it's hard to argue against the Lotus from the general collector's perspective. It's far and away the "face" of MTG.

I'm going to go ahead and say Lotus here. Collection-wise it is hard to go wrong. However, even from a playability perspective, I'd still rather have the lotus. Essentially, if you were to play vintage you'd need both the lotus and the recall, but could easily pass on the time walk. Of the power nine, you really only need recall, lotus, and the moxes. It also seems to be difficult to arrange a trade for a lotus generally.
Tl;dr--Lotus all day.

I don't know if you could easily pass on the walk. I think I'd rather have more power (even if it is two pieces) then just 1 lotus. With snapcaster mage, Time Walk and Recall are more powerful than a lotus. I would think it goes Recall, Walk, then Lotus, moxes.

It's not so much a matter of absolute power (recall is the best card, for sure), but rather what you'd really need to play. Simply put, it'll be easier to pick the recall back up than the lotus, and, in terms of playability, you can skip the time walk pretty easily.
Time walk is an awesome card, but honestly, much of the time brainstorm, ponder, or preordain are actually better cards in many vintage decks. There are exceptions, but, you can build a potent vintage deck without walk.
As for two pieces of power vs. one, I can see that choice. My opinion is that if you are coming from a collector standpoint, Lotus is the cooler piece.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
Pile A:
Revised Volcanic Island (Artist Signed, NM/EX condition - No scuffs, dings, or marks on the borders)
Pile B:
Snapcaster Mage x2 (NM)
Geist of Saint Traft x2 (NM)
Thanks!
Pile B. Not only are those 4x of staples for any blue deck in any format. I don't think Geist is dropping below 25 even after it rotates standard. (It is like the third best creature in Modern and best in the colors which happen to be the best at controlling things) Highly useful in Legacy. Snapcasters are not going to go below 20 dollars and will likely rise to 40 a piece before they are reprinted again. So at worse, you're looking at 80 dollars in pile B after rotation and about 100 for Volcanic Island. However, you have the potential to be sitting on 4x 30 to 40 dollar cards down the road (say 1 to 2 years) and still likely have a 80 to 100 dollar Volcanic Island.
Just because it's a dual land doesn't mean the other piles are completely "bad". Getting Snapcasters and Geists in time for Modern to become a FNM format is a great short term investment.

If you are more likely to cash tournaments because you own the Geists and Snaps, and you can't borrow them from anyone, that's a fine trade, and if you're more likely to play Legacy, it's not. All those cards are good and I think it'll come down to which you'll use more. In a case where you already have playsets of everything and it's about value only, I'd take the Island.

I'm always looking for foil Madcap Skills and Ghitu Fire-Eater, [trade thread link forthcoming]
Dual land doesn't win you games. Geist/Snap win games.
Let's say I have a Delver deck in Legacy. I own 4x Volcanic Islands and 2x Snapcaster Mage. Someone offers me up the 2x snapcasters and 2x geist (which is a house in it's own right, obviously in another deck but still). Value wise it is roughly equal (i've seen volcanic islands go between 80 and 90 dollars all the time.
I would trade 1x volcanic island for the 2x snapcasters 2x geists because it improves my deck.
Even if my deck was 1x volcanic island 0x snapcasters. I think snapcaster is more essential to decks in legacy than any one dual land.
Lets talk about value.
Dual lands are hard to move for whatever reason. Mostly I see them being hard to move because people overvalue them. Most people won't trade equal value for dual land straight across because they think they are always on a "losing" end of it. yeah they are on the reserved list and yeah some (mostly the blue ones) are essential to many decks in Legacy/EDH. You are almost always going to want to play a volcanic island over a regular island or regular mountain in decks that want blue or red.
But lets take a look at geist/snapcaster. 1. they are useful in Modern and Legacy (something that Volcanic Island can't say). 2. WoTC just announced that Modern can be sanctioned as a FNM format which means there will be higher demand year round for cards like Snapcaster and Geist even after they rotate from Standard. 3. Snapcaster/Geist are highly usable in Legacy they are also staples of many decks in the format, the card isn't going to drop below 20 because it will continue to be some of the best cards in both "eternal formats".
Snapcaster could easily follow the same trend of U/x Fetch lands in Modern (in fact, I could easily see it being a 30 dollar card relatively soon). Geist is a mythic and it being the best card control has in Modern, it will continue to hold value.
Again, I understand every likes to gush over Dual lands, but I think this is probably one of the best trades if you are trading out of a dual land.

I think it also depends on his/her timeline. If they plan to buy up the standard cards after rotation, then I would make this trade now, if they don't need them.

Island - Jung Park - 235
Island - Vincent Proce - 237
Swamp - John Avon - 238
Mountain - John Avon - 242
Forest - John Avon - 246
I would take A in this simply because the Misties are high. You can pick up a great looking Tundra here for ~95, and you can sell the set of misties for 100-110 easy.
I would take Pile A because I think it would be more useful than a single dual land. But I think both parties come out ahead (in fact, especially if you picked up Misty Rainforests for ~8 - 12 )

When trading up to FoW's, you should be losing some value. The value in this trade is slanted toward the person getting the Forces, and by a significant margin. The Shocks are basically $9-10 cards and the Decays are $6ish. The Forces, even played, will sell for $50 all day. How is this close to fair?

This is simply based off TCG player, however I think jace was a far better "pile" since it's an eternal staple and you got mostly standard stuff.
