Didn't Snapcaster Magefish go from $16 - $35 a little while back. I would call that a significant jump since it basically doubled in price. However, aside from this initial jump it has not gone up further, which is suprising given the explosion of Modern pricing

Snapcaster's price has actually been declining slowly after it's price surge a while back and it's closer to $31 now. It's still a very reasonable price and I would recommend anybody who hasn't their copies now to pick them up.
Also has anyone seen Sword of Fire and Ice's price recently particularly the Modern Masters version? It's up to $41 now up from around $35 a couple days ago. I'm not sure where SOFAF is played but it may be a Commander card now that I think of it.

That's what I mean. However, during its tenure in Standard it hovered at around $25. Most Modern staples have more than exceeded their Standard prices, even ones that are less ubiquitous than Snappy.

A lot of its growth is due to True Name Nemesis. The pro blue lets you get past TNN and both the abilities are relevant in almost any game. Plus the MMa art is so nice.

Supply. Innistrad was opened A TON. Look at Deathrite when it was legal in Modern. It was ubiquitous but hovered between $12-$15. Why? Because the set it came from was opened A TON.
Perhaps, I always thought it was Modern Martyr-Proc that was causing it, what does it see play in in Legacy?
Stax uses it; it's also a good metagame-specific card against swarm decks like Goblins. Any deck with access to Enlightened Tutor can run it as a 1-of. But I always thought it was more of an EDH card.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
If you're using Ebay/Paypal to sell cards, you're probably not going to clear enough profit to justify buying cards outside of Modern season and selling them at slightly higher prices during Modern season. I would estimate that price would probably go up less than 25% as a result of increased demand from high REL events.
On the other hand, if you own a LGS that hosts a lot of Modern events, you won't have those services taking a bite out of your profits and you can sell at a slight markup to capitalize on the "the tournament is in one hour, I need to buy a fourth Bob" kids.

Anyone notice that CFB is paying 150cash/195credit for FUT Tarmogoyf 125/162 for MMA? If those buylist prices hold, we could be looking at another jump for goyf
The subject might have been discussed before, but are Scalding Tarn & other fetches dropping for good? Are people speculating about a reprint and selling everything? According to Goldfish it has been dropping since April 01.

AFAIK, they're dropping because of the gap between Modern PTQs.
Realistically, between Aaron Forsythe's recent quote that they're aware of the fetches rising, but can't reprint straight away because they work 2yrs ahead (in other words, no fetches in Khans of Tarkhir), and the fact that Modern only continues to get more popular while the number of fetches in the wild remains the same? They'll be headed back upwards shortly.
I don't see fetchlands being reprinted in the next set. The names just don't match what I would expect from a Mongolian looking set. Maybe one of the lands from future sight will make it this time. If you need fetchlands from zenidikar; making offers on them for cash seems wise. I could see the lands definitely jump back up when the next non "M" arrives with no fetch lands. To many modern decks are using them to ignore it.

That's a steal! I don't think there's really any hope for that card ever being really affordable until it becomes a FNM promo. I facetiously joked to my friend that tarmogoyf was a snap buy at 80$ (when it was 80$). I later ate my words and picked them up painfully at 95$ each. Sometime I feel Like I understand the reprint process/rationale very well, but this card is beyond my comprehension.
It's a blessing that it has no real commander appeal or it would be more outrageously outrageous (but more likely to see a reprint in a supplemental at some point).
The card is not oppressive in any way, and you don't have to own a playset of Tarmogoyfs to be competitive. The card is also not decidedly unfun or a time waster. There is no good reason to ban Tarmogoyf, there never has been, and I suspect there will never be. "The card is expensive!" is not even remotely close to being a good reason.
I don't understand why they don't simply ban the card and be done with it. They could with Jace.
Jace would warp the format around it to an unhealthy degree if it were legal in Modern. Tarmogoyf isn't degenerate. A pillar of the format, maybe, if you want to count it being iconic and widespread as being a pillar, but it's ultimately easily answered by most decks. Fundamentally it's just a two-mana 3/4 to 5/6, depending on the game state and matchup. Most decks, meanwhile, would struggle to answer Jace effectively. Jace is essentially a draw-three (Brainstorm, put back two worthless cards, fetch them away), ridiculous tempo, and a win condition all in one card. Not only is it fairly easily protected from the relatively few things that can kill it compared to Goyf (creature kill is easier to come by than planeswalker kill), it'll even protect itself from creatures that might kill it.
The moment they start to ban cards from Modern for cost rather than for power level or for logistical purposes is the moment the format's truly beyond hope.
When is the first major Modern event? I have been sitting on a stack of cards I want to sell since I am getting out of Magic but I wanted to wait and see if anything spikes.
This has nothing to do with gains for Modern. Feel free to make a new thread asking your question, but not a post on the gainers thread. Warning issued. - Rai
