I really wish people would stop making ignorant comments like this.
Wizards has shown continually that it supports Legacy by printing products like planechase specifically with Legacy in mind as well as core set cards that are highly relevant to Legacy.
In the last few releases alone we have seen:
Abrupt Decay - Designed specifically as an answer to counterbalance
Graft Digger's Cage - Answer to Dredge
Rest in Peace - Answer to dredge and other graveyard based strategies.
Shardless Agent (Planechase)
Baleful Strix (Planechase)
I could go on, but this whole "Wizards doesn't care about Legacy" is pretty lame and tired. Just because Wizards doesn't send you a gift wrapped box of dual lands, does not mean that Wizards does not support Legacy.
Agree it is getting old.

I LOOOVE Legacy, but this is just untrue. I think some people really don't like the format. Even if someone handed them a deck to borrow for a tournament, they would turn it down.
Now if someone would give them a deck, then that's a different choice. (They'd probably sell it for Standard staples. :o)

I'm in the same boat. I love the format but don't think its for everyone. Not only is there a price barrier but there is quite a skill barrier for players that not everyone can handle. I do think reprinting Goyf will help promote modern more but these are going to be great for legacy players as well. Imo the modern masters is one of the best things WotC could've done to peak interest in eternal formats.
Yeah that has always worked in FtV's favor too. (sarcasm) And those were really low print runs.
I understand you value it more but something in print or atleast still available in stores is always going to be worth less than static stock from an old set. If anything, the influx of new stock will decrease both prices.
I agree 100%. Though the OP is correct for lower value cards with limited print runs and good art, Goyf is just to expensive for this to likely apply.
ABUGAMES.com has lowered their buy price 5.00 since the announcement of the reprint. Sounds like there are a lot of people dumping theirs before they drop much more.
I have seen the new art and its fabulous. I think the new tarmogoyf might be more expensive than the old...
what do you think? Anyone knows what kind of print it will be made in?
The new one will not be as expensive as the old one, I see the new one settling at around $50-60, maybe I'm wrong about the new price and maybe I'm right but the old ones will still retain their value IMO

$120 ****in dollars for a ****in NM Tarmogoyf? DAMN, that price is INSANE even for them. You can get a NM one off scg for $100 a pop and tcg at $90 a pop. ABU is nuts!

I agree buying off of them is nuts but they do have one of the best buylists for selling cards around.
wasn't really sure where to post this and decided not to make a new thread since i found this in a search.
i have a playset of foil tarmogoyfs (SP-NM, the SP ones have a bit of clouding on the front) and i'm not sure if i want to sell them or keep them. i'm currently in the progress of making a foil collection for my binder, and although part of me wants to keep the foil playset (which took me a long time to get it) i realize how much more stuff i could get if i sold it as well.
so just curious as to how much would be a good price to sell the playset for (perhaps a min. value that i should be looking at?) i was at GP toronto this past weekend and a guy offered me $900 for the set but that felt a little bit low for me.

NM ones go for ~$210-250 regularly, so I'd say that $900 isn't bad considering yours aren't all NM.
I'd say it's up to you.

I would honestly keep them. Reprints don't usually affect foil prices that much.
I'm dumping quite a few cards in preparation for a shift to Modern and am seriously considering picking up a set of Goyf's. What's the verdict? Trade for the OG goyf now or wait for the reprint? Going to some modern PTQs before modern masters comes out and kind of feel like playing Jund.
(I would be trading straight legacy staples, duals, wastelands, maybe a candelabra...)

I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but do you think that Modern will decrease demand, and thus price for Legacy staples? Players in US are probably more depending on SCG for support than European scene, so SCG switching to Modern could really lower the price of staples.
I'm wondering this as well. I also lack goyfs. Not sure if MM will lower costs as much as I anticipate (guessing he falls to ~50 or 60 each). I fear stores and everyone adapting to playing modern > legacy in the long haul will force goyf's price to stay high.

I'm thinking he stays in the 70-80 range and slowly climbs back up. Or maybe that's just what I'm hoping.

This all depends on two factors...
1.) How much product is produced of Modern Masters if it remains fairly limited not many copies will hit the market.
2.) How many new players will move into Modern once the Modern Masters set comes out.
Even if we see quite a bit of product put on the market, the price of the original should still fetch a premium. I mean you can get the "crappy" Psionic Blast for 80 cents or the "crappy" Serendib Efreet for about 80 cents. Meanwhile original versions of those cards fetch a far higher price. It seems that reprints only help a card drop value temporarily in most cases, original versions continue to demand higher prices after the market readjusts.
Even the recent reprint of Ulamog in a small run set recently didn't cause his value to plummet.
Fenrus, Its generally a good I dea to trade up to get cards that are hard to buy, but you never know what cards you traded away that may be worth more tommarrow.
I bought my goyfs slowly over 2 years cause I love green. They are worth it cause your opponent panicks when they hit the board (cause of name only). I am the only one with 4 of them at my FNM location, thus people are focusing on them instead of my real bombs. He won't loose hardly any of his value from Modern Masters. The big players/collectors will want him for the art, thus demanding a higher price.
If like the card and will play it heavily; save and get it.

Quite a few people (including me) think the new art is really dumb. Don't like the old art that much either, but at least it's iconic.
In other news, I finally finished trading off my playset of Goyfs, so sayonara, big guy.

Its hard to sell big value cards, especially in one shot, ask any game store, buyers like that don't come around everyday.
I'm also not much of a foil guy, so would have sold them, but I wouldn't have went after them in the first place.
